ஆதியாகமம் அத்தியாயம் 21

கர்த்தர் தாம் சொல்லியிருந்தபடி சாராள்பேரில் கடாட்சமானார்; கர்த்தர் தாம் உரைத்தபடியே சாராளுக்குச் செய்தருளினார்.

And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

ஆபிரகாம் முதிர்வயதாயிருக்கையில், சாராள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி, தேவன் குறித்திருந்த காலத்திலே அவனுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் தனக்குச் சாராள் பெற்ற குமாரனுக்கு ஈசாக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கு பிறந்த எட்டாம் நாளிலே, ஆபிரகாம் தனக்குத் தேவன் கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தபடி அவனுக்கு விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணினான்.

And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கு பிறந்தபோது ஆபிரகாம் நூறுவயதாயிருந்தான்.

And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

அப்பொழுது சாராள்: தேவன் என்னை நகைக்கப்பண்ணினார்; இதைக்கேட்கிற யாவரும் என்னோடகூட நகைப்பார்கள்.

And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

சாராள் பிள்ளைகளுக்குப் பால்கொடுப்பாள் என்று ஆபிரகாமுக்கு எவன் சொல்லுவான்? அவருடைய முதிர்வயதிலே அவருக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றேனே என்றாள்.

And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

பிள்ளை வளர்ந்து, பால் மறந்தது; ஈசாக்கு பால் மறந்தநாளிலே ஆபிரகாம் பெரிய விருந்து பண்ணினான்.

And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

பின்பு எகிப்து தேசத்தாளாகிய ஆகார் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பெற்ற குமாரன் பரியாசம்பண்ணுகிறதைச் சாராள் கண்டு,

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.

ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: இந்த அடிமைப்பெண்ணையும் அவள் மகனையும் புறம்பே தள்ளும்; இந்த அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் மகன் என் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கோடே சுதந்திரவாளியாயிருப்பதில்லை என்றாள்.

Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

தன் மகனைக்குறித்துச் சொல்லப்பட்ட இந்தக் காரியம் ஆபிரகாமுக்கு மிகவும் துக்கமாயிருந்தது.

And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

அப்பொழுது தேவன் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: அந்தப் பிள்ளையையும், உன் அடிமைப்பெண்ணையும் குறித்துச் சொல்லப்பட்டது உனக்குத் துக்கமாயிருக்க வேண்டாம்; ஈசாக்கினிடத்தில் உன் சந்ததி விளங்கும்; ஆதலால் சாராள் உனக்குச் சொல்வதெல்லாவற்றையும் கேள்.

And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் மகனும் உன் வித்தாயிருக்கிறபடியால், அவனையும் ஒரு ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

ஆபிரகாம் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, அப்பத்தையும் ஒரு துருத்தி தண்ணீரையும் எடுத்து, ஆகாருடைய தோளின்மேல் வைத்துப் பிள்ளையையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, அவளை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவள் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், பெயர்செபாவின் வனாந்தரத்திலே அலைந்து திரிந்தாள்.

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

துருத்தியிலிருந்த தண்ணீர் செலவழிந்தபின்பு, அவள் பிள்ளையை ஒரு செடியின் கீழே விட்டு,

And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

பிள்ளை சாகிறதை நான் பார்க்கமாட்டேன் என்று, எதிராக அம்பு பாயும் தூரத்திலே போய் உட்கார்ந்து சத்தமிட்டு அழுதாள்.

And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.

தேவன் பிள்ளையின் சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டார்; தேவதூதன் வானத்திலிருந்து ஆகாரைக் கூப்பிட்டு: ஆகாரே, உனக்கு என்ன சம்பவித்தது, பயப்படாதே, பிள்ளையிருக்கும் இடத்திலே தேவன் அவன் சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டார்.

And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

நீ எழுந்து பிள்ளையை எடுத்து அவனை உன் கையினால் பிடித்துக் கொண்டுபோ, அவனைப் பெரிய ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.

தேவன் அவளுடைய கண்களைத் திறந்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவள் ஒரு தண்ணீர்த் துரவைக் கண்டு, போய், துருத்தியிலே தண்ணீர் நிரப்பி, பிள்ளைக்குக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தாள்.

And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

தேவன் பிள்ளையுடனே இருந்தார்; அவன் வளர்ந்து வனாந்தரத்திலே குடியிருந்து வில்வித்தையிலே வல்லவனானான்.

And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

அவன் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்திலே குடியிருக்கையில், அவனுடைய தாய் எகிப்து தேசத்தாளாகிய ஒரு பெண்ணை அவனுக்கு விவாகம்பண்ணுவித்தாள்.

And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

அக்காலத்தில் அபிமெலேக்கும் அவன் சேனாதிபதியாகிய பிகோலும் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: நீ செய்கிற காரியங்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் தேவன் உன்னுடனே இருக்கிறார்.

And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:

ஆகையால், நீ எனக்காவது, என் குமாரனுக்காவது, என் பேரனுக்காவது வஞ்சனை செய்யாமல், நான் உனக்குச் செய்த தயவின்படியே, நீ எனக்கும், நீ தங்கியிருக்கிற இந்தத் தேசத்திற்கும், தயவு செய்வேன் என்று இங்கே தேவன் பேரில் எனக்கு ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடு என்றான்.

Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம்: நான் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

And Abraham said, I will swear.

ஆனாலும், அபிமெலேக்குடைய வேலைக்காரர் கைவசப்படுத்திக்கொண்ட துரவின் நிமித்தம் ஆபிரகாம் அபிமெலேக்கைக் கடிந்துகொண்டான்.

And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

அதற்கு அபிமெலேக்கு: இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தவன் இன்னான் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியாது, நீயும் எனக்கு அறிவிக்கவில்லை; இன்று நான் அதைக்கேட்டதேயன்றி, இதற்குமுன் அதை நான் கேள்விப்பட்டதே இல்லை என்றான்.

And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் ஆடுமாடுகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து அபிமெலேக்குக்குக் கொடுத்தான்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

ஆபிரகாம் ஏழு பெண்ணாட்டுக்குட்டிகளைத் தனியே நிறுத்தினான்.

And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

அப்பொழுது அபிமெலேக்கு ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: நீ தனியே நிறுத்தின இந்த ஏழு பெண்ணாட்டுக்குட்டிகள் என்னத்திற்கு என்று கேட்டான்.

And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves?

அதற்கு அவன்: நான் இந்தத் துரவு தோண்டினதைக்குறித்து, நீர் சாட்சியாக இந்த ஏழு பெண்ணாட்டுக்குட்டிகளை என் கையில் வாங்கிக்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்றான்.

And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well.

அவர்கள் இருவரும் அவ்விடத்தில் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொண்டபடியால், அந்த இடம் பெயெர்செபா என்னப்பட்டது.

Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them.

அவர்கள் பெயெர்செபாவிலே உடன்படிக்கை பண்ணிக்கொண்டபின் அபிமெலேக்கும், அவன் சேனாதிபதியாகிய பிகோலும் எழுந்து பெலிஸ்தருடைய தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போனார்கள்.

Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

ஆபிரகாம் பெயெர்செபாவிலே ஒரு தோப்பை உண்டாக்கி, சதாகாலமுமுள்ள தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தை அவ்விடத்தில் தொழுதுகொண்டான்.

And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

ஆபிரகாம் பெலிஸ்தருடைய தேசத்தில் அநேகநாள் தங்கியிருந்தான்.

And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.

ஆதியாகமம் அத்தியாயம் 22

இந்தக் காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, தேவன் ஆபிரகாமைச் சோதித்தார்; எப்படியெனில், அவர் அவனை நோக்கி: ஆபிரகாமே என்றார்; அவன்: இதோ அடியேன் என்றான்.

And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

அப்பொழுது அவர்: உன் புத்திரனும், உன் ஏகசுதனும், உன் நேசகுமாரனுமாகிய ஈசாக்கை நீ இப்பொழுது அழைத்துக்கொண்டு, மோரியா தேசத்துக்குப் போய், அங்கே நான் உனக்குக் குறிக்கும் மலைகள் ஒன்றின்மேல் அவனைத் தகனபலியாகப் பலியிடு என்றார்.

And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

ஆபிரகாம் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, தன் கழுதையின்மேல் சேணங்கட்டி, தன் வேலைக்காரரில் இரண்டுபேரையும் தன் குமாரன் ஈசாக்கையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, தகனபலிக்குக் கட்டைகளையும் பிளந்துகொண்டு, தேவன் தனக்குக் குறித்த இடத்திற்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

மூன்றாம் நாளில் ஆபிரகாம் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப்பார்த்து, தூரத்திலே அந்த இடத்தைக் கண்டான்.

Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் தன் வேலைக்காரரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் கழுதையை நிறுத்தி இங்கே காத்திருங்கள், நானும் பிள்ளையாண்டானும் அவ்விடமட்டும் போய், தொழுதுகொண்டு, உங்களிடத்துக்குத் திரும்பி வருவோம் என்றான்.

And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

ஆபிரகாம் தகனபலிக்குக் கட்டைகளை எடுத்து, தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் மேல் வைத்து, தன் கையிலே நெருப்பையும் கத்தியையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்; இருவரும் கூடிப்போனார்கள்.

And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பனே என்றான்; அதற்கு அவன்: என் மகனே, இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவன்: இதோ, நெருப்பும் கட்டையும் இருக்கிறது, தகனபலிக்கு ஆட்டுக்குட்டி எங்கே என்றான்.

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம்: என் மகனே, தேவன் தமக்குத் தகனபலிக்கான ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் பார்த்துக்கொள்வார் என்றான்; அப்புறம் இருவரும் கூடிப்போய்,

And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

தேவன் அவனுக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்த இடத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள்; அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கி, கட்டைகளை அடுக்கி, தன் குமாரனாகிய ஈசாக்கைக் கட்டி, அந்தப் பலிபீடத்தில் அடுக்கிய கட்டைகளின்மேல் அவனைக் கிடத்தினான்.

And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

பின்பு ஆபிரகாம் தன் குமாரனை வெட்டும்படிக்குத் தன் கையை நீட்டிக் கத்தியை எடுத்தான்.

And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் வானத்திலிருந்து, ஆபிரகாமே, ஆபிரகாமே என்று கூப்பிட்டார்; அவன்: இதோ, அடியேன் என்றான்.

And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

அப்பொழுது அவர்: பிள்ளையாண்டான்மேல் உன் கையைப் போடாதே, அவனுக்கு ஒன்றும் செய்யாதே; நீ அவனை உன் புத்திரன் என்றும், உன் ஏகசுதன் என்றும் பாராமல் எனக்காக ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தபடியினால் நீ தேவனுக்குப் பயப்படுகிறவன் என்று இப்பொழுது அறிந்திருக்கிறேன் என்றார்.

And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

ஆபிரகாம் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பார்க்கும்போது, இதோ, பின்னாகப் புதரிலே தன் கொம்புகள் சிக்கிக்கொண்டிருந்த ஒரு ஆட்டுக்கடாவைக் கண்டான்; அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் போய், கடாவைப் பிடித்து, அதைத் தன் குமாரனுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தகனபலியிட்டான்.

And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

ஆபிரகாம் அந்த இடத்துக்கு யேகோவாயீரே என்று பேரிட்டான்; அதினாலே கர்த்தருடைய பர்வதத்திலே பார்த்துக்கொள்ளப்படும் என்று இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் சொல்லப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் இரண்டாந்தரம் வானத்திலிருந்து ஆபிரகாமைக் கூப்பிட்டு:

And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

நீ உன் புத்திரன் என்றும், உன் ஏகசுதன் என்றும் பாராமல் அவனை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தபடியால்;

And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

நான் உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கவே ஆசீர்வதித்து, உன் சந்ததியை வானத்து நட்சத்திரங்களைப்போலவும், கடற்கரை மணலைப்போலவும் பெருகவே பெருகப்பண்ணுவேன் என்றும், உன் சந்ததியார் தங்கள் சத்துருக்களின் வாசல்களைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவார்கள் என்றும்,

That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

நீ என் சொல்லுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்தபடியினால், உன் சந்ததிக்குள் பூமியிலுள்ள சகல ஜாதிகளும் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படும் என்றும் என்பேரில் ஆணையிட்டேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றார்.

And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

ஆபிரகாம் தன் வேலைக்காரரிடத்துக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தான்; அவர்கள் எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, ஏகமாய்ப் பெயெர்செபாவுக்குப் போனார்கள்; ஆபிரகாம் பெயெர்செபாவிலே குடியிருந்தான்.

So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

இந்தக் காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, ஒருவன் ஆபிரகாமிடத்தில் வந்து: மில்க்காளும் உன் சகோதரனாகிய நாகோருக்குப் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெற்றாள்;

And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;

அவர்கள் யாரென்றால், முதற்பேறான ஊத்ஸ், அவன் தம்பியாகிய பூஸ், ஆராமுக்குத் தகப்பனாகிய கேமுவேல்,

Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,

கேசேத், ஆசோ, பில்தாஸ், இத்லாப், பெத்துவேல் என்பவர்கள்; பெத்துவேல் ரெபெக்காளைப் பெற்றான் என்று அறிவித்தான்.

And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.

அந்த எட்டுப்பேரை மில்க்காள் ஆபிரகாமுடைய சகோதரனாகிய நாகோருக்குப் பெற்றாள்.

And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

ரேயுமாள் என்று பேர்கொண்ட அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும், தேபா, காகாம், தாகாஸ், மாகா என்பவர்களைப் பெற்றாள்.

And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.

ஆதியாகமம் அத்தியாயம் 23

சாராள் நூற்று இருபத்தேழு வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்தாள்; இவ்வளவே சாராளுடைய வயது.

And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.

கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள எபிரோன் என்னும் கீரியாத்அர்பாவிலே சாராள் மரித்தாள்; அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் வந்து, சாராளுக்காகப் புலம்பி அழுதான்.

And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

பின்பு ஆபிரகாம் பிரேதம் இருந்த இடத்திலிருந்து எழுந்துபோய், ஏத்தின் புத்திரரோடே பேசி:

And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,

நான் உங்களிடத்தில் அந்நியனும் பரதேசியுமாய் இருக்கிறேன்; என்னிடத்திலிருக்கிற இந்தப் பிரேதம் என் கண்முன் இராதபடிக்கு நான் அதை அடக்கம்பண்ணுவதற்கு, உங்களிடத்தில் எனக்குச் சொந்தமாக ஒரு கல்லறைப் பூமியைத் தரவேண்டும் என்றான்.

I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

அதற்கு ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,

எங்கள் ஆண்டவனே, நாங்கள் சொல்லுகிறதைக் கேளும்; எங்களுக்குள்ளே நீர் மகா பிரபு; எங்கள் கல்லறைகளில் முக்கியமானதிலே பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம்பண்ணும்; நீர் பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம்பண்ண எங்களில் ஒருவனும் தன் கல்லறையை உமக்குத் தடைசெய்வதில்லை என்றார்கள்.

Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் எழுந்திருந்து, ஏத்தின் புத்திரராகிய அத்தேசத்தாருக்கு வந்தனம் செய்து,

And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

தன் நிலத்தின் கடைசியிலே இருக்கிற மக்பேலா என்னப்பட்ட குகையை எனக்குச் சொந்தமான கல்லறைப் பூமியாயிருக்கும்படி தரவேண்டும் என்று, அவரிடத்தில் எனக்காக வேண்டிக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; அது பெறுமான விலைக்கு அவர் அதைத் தருவாராக என்றான்.

That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.

எப்பெரோன் ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் நடுவிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஏத்தியனாகிய எப்பெரோன் தன் ஊர் வாசலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கிற ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் அனைவரும் கேட்க ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

அப்படியல்ல, என் ஆண்டவனே, என் வார்த்தையைக் கேளும்; அந்த நிலத்தை உமக்குத் தருகிறேன், அதிலிருக்கும் குகையையும் உமக்குத் தருகிறேன், என் ஜனப்புத்திரருடைய கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக அதை உமக்குத் தருகிறேன், உம்மிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம்பண்ணும் என்றான்.

Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் அத்தேசத்தாருக்கு வந்தனம் செய்து,

And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

தேசத்து ஜனங்கள் கேட்க, எப்பெரோனை நோக்கி: கொடுக்க உமக்கு மனதானால் என் வார்த்தையைக் கேளும்; நிலத்தின் விலையைத் தருகிறேன்; என் கையில் அதை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளும்; அப்பொழுது என்னிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதத்தை அவ்விடத்தில் அடக்கம்பண்ணுவேன் என்றான்.

And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.

அதற்கு எப்பெரோன் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,

என் ஆண்டவனே, நான் சொல்லுகிறதைக் கேளும்; அந்த நிலம் நானூறு சேக்கல் நிறை வெள்ளி பெறும்; எனக்கும் உமக்கும் அது எவ்வளவு காரியம்; நீர் உம்மிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம் பண்ணும் என்றான்.

My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் எப்பெரோனின் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, ஏத்தின் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாக எப்பெரோன் சொன்னபடியே, வர்த்தகரிடத்தில் செல்லும்படியான நானூறு சேக்கல் நிறை வெள்ளியை அவனுக்கு நிறுத்துக் கொடுத்தான்.

And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

இந்தப்பிரகாரம் மம்ரேக்கு எதிரே மக்பேலாவிலுள்ள எப்பெரோனுடைய நிலமாகிய அந்தப் பூமியும், அதிலுள்ள குகையும், நிலத்தின் எல்லையெங்கும் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிற மரங்கள் அடங்கலும்,

And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure

அவனுடைய ஊர்வாசலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும் ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் எல்லாரும் அறிய ஆபிரகாமுக்குச் சொந்தமாக உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

அதற்குப்பின் ஆபிரகாம் தன் மனைவியாகிய சாராளைக் கானான் தேசத்தில் எப்பெரோன் ஊர் பூமியான மம்ரேக்கு எதிரே இருக்கிற மக்பேலா என்னும் நிலத்தின் குகையிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினான்.

And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.

இப்படி ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் கையில் கொள்ளப்பட்ட அந்த நிலமும், அதிலுள்ள குகையும், ஆபிரகாமுக்குச் சொந்த கல்லறைப் பூமியாக உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

மத்தேயு அத்தியாயம் 11

இயேசு தம்முடைய பன்னிரண்டு சீஷர்களுக்கும் கட்டளைகொடுத்து முடித்தபின்பு, அவர்களுடைய பட்டணங்களில் உபதேசிக்கவும் பிரசங்கிக்கவும் அவ்விடம் விட்டுப்போனார்.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

அத்தருணத்தில் காவலிலிருந்த யோவான் கிறிஸ்துவின் கிரியைகளைக்குறித்துக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, தன் சீஷரில் இரண்டுபேரை அழைத்து:

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

வருகிறவர் நீர்தானா, அல்லது வேறொருவர் வரக்காத்திருக்கவேண்டுமா? என்று அவரிடத்தில் கேட்கும்படி அனுப்பினான்.

And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

இயேசு அவர்களுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நீங்கள் கேட்கிறதையும் காண்கிறதையும் யோவானிடத்தில் போய் அறிவியுங்கள்;

Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

குருடர் பார்வையடைகிறார்கள், சப்பாணிகள் நடக்கிறார்கள், குஷ்டரோகிகள் சுத்தமாகிறார்கள், செவிடர் கேட்கிறார்கள், மரித்தோர் எழுந்திருக்கிறார்கள், தரித்திரருக்குச் சுவிசேஷம் பிரசங்கிக்கப்படுகிறது.

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

என்னிடத்தில் இடறலடையாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ அவன் பாக்கியவான் என்றார்.

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

அவர்கள் போனபின்பு, இயேசு யோவானைக்குறித்து ஜனங்களுக்குச் சொன்னது என்னவென்றால்: எதைப் பார்க்க வனாந்தரத்திற்குப் போனீர்கள்? காற்றினால் அசையும் நாணலையோ?

And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

அல்லவென்றால், எதைப் பார்க்கப்போனீர்கள்? மெல்லிய வஸ்திரந்தரித்த மனுஷனையோ? மெல்லிய வஸ்திரந்தரித்திருக்கிறவர்கள் அரசர் மாளிகைகளில் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

அல்லவென்றால், எதைப் பார்க்கப்போனீர்கள்? தீர்க்கதரிசியையோ? ஆம், தீர்க்கதரிசியைப்பார்க்கிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவனையே என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

அதெப்படியெனில்: இதோ, நான் என் தூதனை உமக்கு முன்பாக அனுப்புகிறேன்; அவன் உமக்கு முன்னே போய், உமது வழியை ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுவான் என்று எழுதிய வாக்கியத்தால் குறிக்கப்பட்டவன் இவன்தான்.

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

ஸ்திரீகளிடத்திலே பிறந்தவர்களில் யோவானஸ்நானனைப்பார்க்கிலும் பெரியவன் ஒருவனும் எழும்பினதில்லை; ஆகிலும், பரலோகராஜ்யத்தில் சிறியவனாயிருக்கிறவன் அவனிலும் பெரியவனாயிருக்கிறானென்று உங்களுக்கு மெய்யாகவே சொல்லுகிறேன்.

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

யோவான்ஸ்நானன் காலமுதல் இதுவரைக்கும் பரலோகராஜ்யம் பலவந்தம்பண்ணப்படுகிறது; பலவந்தம்பண்ணுகிறவர்கள் அதைப் பிடித்துக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

நியாயப்பிரமாணமும் தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் யாவரும் யோவான்வரைக்கும் தீர்க்கதரிசனம் உரைத்ததுண்டு.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

நீங்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மனதாயிருந்தால், வருகிறவனாகிய எலியா இவன்தான்.

And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

கேட்கிறதற்குக் காதுள்ளவன் கேட்கக்கடவன்.

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

இந்தச் சந்ததியை யாருக்கு ஒப்பிடுவேன்? சந்தைவெளிகளில் உட்கார்ந்து, தங்கள் தோழரைப் பார்த்து:

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

உங்களுக்காகக் குழல் ஊதினோம், நீங்கள் கூத்தாடவில்லை; உங்களுக்காகப் புலம்பினோம், நீங்கள் மாரடிக்கவில்லை என்று குறைசொல்லுகிற பிள்ளைகளுக்கு ஒப்பாயிருக்கிறது.

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

எப்படியெனில், யோவான் போஜனபானம்பண்ணாதவனாய் வந்தான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அவன் பிசாசுபிடித்திருக்கிறவன் என்றார்கள்.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

மனுஷகுமாரன் போஜனபானம்பண்ணுகிறவராய் வந்தார்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: இதோ, போஜனப்பிரியனும் மதுபானப்பிரியனுமான மனுஷன், ஆயக்காரருக்கும் பாவிகளுக்கும் சிநேகிதன் என்கிறார்கள். ஆனாலும், ஞானமானது அதன் பிள்ளைகளால் நீதியுள்ளதென்று ஒப்புக்கொள்ளப்படும் என்றார்.

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

அப்பொழுது, தமது பலத்தசெய்கைகளில், அதிகமானவைகளைச் செய்யக்கண்ட பட்டணங்கள் மனந்திரும்பாமற்போனபடியினால் அவைகளை அவர் கடிந்துகொள்ளத் தொடங்கினார்:

Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

கோராசினே! உனக்கு ஐயோ, பெத்சாயிதாவே! உனக்கு ஐயோ, உங்களில் செய்யப்பட்ட பலத்த செய்கைகள் தீருவிலும் சீதோனிலும் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததானால், அப்பொழுதே இரட்டுடுத்திச் சாம்பலில் உட்கார்ந்து மனந்திரும்பியிருப்பார்கள்.

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

நியாயத்தீர்ப்புநாளிலே உங்களுக்கு நேரிடுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், தீருவுக்கும் சீதோனுக்கும் நேரிடுவது இலகுவாயிருக்கும் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

வானபரியந்தம் உயர்த்தப்பட்ட கப்பர்நகூமே, நீ பாதாளபரியந்தம் தாழ்த்தப்படுவாய்; உன்னில் செய்யப்பட்ட பலத்த செய்கைகள் சோதோமிலே செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததானால், அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் நிலைத்திருக்கும்.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

நியாயத்தீர்ப்புநாளிலே உனக்கு நேரிடுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், சோதோம் நாட்டிற்கு நேரிடுவது இலகுவாயிருக்கும் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

அந்தச் சமயத்திலே இயேசு சொன்னது: பிதாவே! வானத்துக்கும் பூமிக்கும் ஆண்டவரே! இவைகளை ஞானிகளுக்கும் கல்விமான்களுக்கும் மறைத்து, பாலகருக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினபடியால் உம்மை ஸ்தோத்திரிக்கிறேன்.

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

ஆம், பிதாவே! இப்படிச் செய்வது உம்முடைய திருவுளத்துக்குப் பிரியமாயிருந்தது.

Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

சகலமும் என் பிதாவினால் எனக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது; பிதா தவிர வேறொருவனும் குமாரனை அறியான்; குமாரனும், குமாரன் எவனுக்கு அவரை வெளிப்படுத்தச் சித்தமாயிருக்கிறாரோ அவனும் தவிர, வேறொருவனும் பிதாவை அறியான்.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

வருத்தப்பட்டுப் பாரஞ்சுமக்கிறவர்களே! நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் என்னிடத்தில் வாருங்கள்; நான் உங்களுக்கு இளைப்பாறுதல் தருவேன்.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

நான் சாந்தமும் மனத்தாழ்மையுமாய் இருக்கிறேன்; என் நுகத்தை உங்கள்மேல் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, என்னிடத்தில் கற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; அப்பொழுது உங்கள் ஆத்துமாக்களுக்கு இளைப்பாறுதல் கிடைக்கும்.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

என் நுகம் மெதுவாயும், என் சுமை இலகுவாயும் இருக்கிறது என்றார்.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
