கர்த்தர் சீனாய்மலையில் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

And the LORD spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying,

நீ இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நான் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கும் தேசத்திலே நீங்கள் போய்ச் சேர்ந்திருக்கும்போது, தேசம் கர்த்தருக்கென்று ஓய்வு கொண்டாடவேண்டும்.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.

ஆறுவருஷம் உன் வயலை விதைத்து, உன் திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தைக் கிளைகழித்து, அதின் பலனைச் சேர்ப்பாயாக.

Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;

ஏழாம் வருஷத்திலோ, கர்த்தருக்கென்று ஓய்ந்திருக்கும் ஓய்வு தேசத்திற்கு இருக்கவேண்டும்; அதில் உன் வயலை விதைக்காமலும், உன் திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தைக் கிளைகழிக்காமலும்,

But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard.

தானாய் விளைந்து பயிரானதை அறுக்காமலும், கிளைகழிக்காதே விட்ட திராட்சச்செடியின் பழங்களைச் சேர்க்காமலும் இருப்பாயாக; தேசத்துக்கு அது ஓய்வு வருஷமாயிருக்கக்கடவது.

That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land.

தேசத்தின் ஓய்விலே பயிராகிறது உங்களுக்கு ஆகாரமாயிருப்பதாக; உன் வேலைக்காரனுக்கும், உன் வேலைக்காரிக்கும், உன் கூலிக்காரனுக்கும், உன்னிடத்தில் தங்குகிற அந்நியனுக்கும்,

And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee,

உன் நாட்டு மிருகத்துக்கும், உன் தேசத்தில் இருக்கிற காட்டு மிருகத்துக்கும் அதில் விளைந்திருப்பதெல்லாம் ஆகாரமாயிருப்பதாக.

And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.

அன்றியும், ஏழு ஓய்வு வருஷங்களுள்ள ஏழு ஏழு வருஷங்களை எண்ணுவாயாக; அந்த ஏழு ஓய்வு வருஷங்களும் நாற்பத்தொன்பது வருஷமாகும்.

And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.

அப்பொழுதும் ஏழாம் மாதம் பத்தாந்தேதியில் எக்காளச்சத்தம் தொனிக்கும்படி செய்யவேண்டும்; பாவநிவாரணநாளில் உங்கள் தேசமெங்கும் எக்காளச்சத்தம் தொனிக்கும்படி செய்யவேண்டும்.

Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.

ஐம்பதாம் வருஷத்தைப் பரிசுத்தமாக்கி, தேசமெங்கும் அதின் குடிகளுக்கெல்லாம் விடுதலை கூறக்கடவீர்கள்; அது உங்களுக்கு யூபிலி வருஷம்; அதிலே உங்களில் ஒவ்வொருவனும் தன்தன் காணியாட்சிக்கும் தன் தன் குடும்பத்துக்கும் திரும்பிப் போகக்கடவன்.

And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

அந்த ஐம்பதாம் வருஷம் உங்களுக்கு யூபிலி வருஷமாயிருப்பதாக; அதிலே விதைக்காமலும், தானாய் விளைந்து பயிரானதை அறுக்காமலும், கிளைகழிக்காமல் விடப்பட்ட திராட்சச்செடியின் பழங்களைச் சேர்க்காமலும் இருப்பீர்களாக.

A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.

அது யூபிலி வருஷம்; அது உங்களுக்குப் பரிசுத்தமாயிருக்கவேண்டும்; அந்த வருஷத்தில் வயல்வெளியில் விளைந்தவைகளை நீங்கள் புசிக்கவேண்டும்.

For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.

அந்த யூபிலி வருஷத்தில் உங்களில் அவனவன் தன்தன் காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்.

In the year of this jubile ye shall return every man unto his possession.

ஆகையால், பிறனுக்கு எதையாவது விற்றாலும், அவனிடத்தில் எதையாவது கொண்டாலும் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் அநியாயம் செய்யக்கூடாது.

And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbour, or buyest ought of thy neighbour's hand, ye shall not oppress one another:

யூபிலி வருஷத்துக்குப் பின்வரும் வருஷங்களின் தொகைக்கேற்கப் பிறனிடத்தில் கொள்ளுவாயாக; பலனுள்ள வருஷங்களின் தொகைக்கேற்க அவன் உனக்கு விற்பானாக.

According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee:

பலனுள்ள வருஷங்களின் இலக்கத்தைப் பார்த்து அவன் உனக்கு விற்கிறபடியால், வருஷங்களின் தொகை ஏறினால் விலையேறவும், வருஷங்களின் தொகை குறைந்தால், விலை குறையவும் வேண்டும்.

According to the multitude of years thou shalt increase the price thereof, and according to the fewness of years thou shalt diminish the price of it: for according to the number of the years of the fruits doth he sell unto thee.

உங்களில் ஒருவனும் பிறனுக்கு அநியாயம் செய்யக்கூடாது; உன் தேவனுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டும்; நான் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர்.

Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am the LORD your God.

என் கட்டளைகளின்படி செய்து, என் நியாயங்களைக் கைக்கொண்டு அவைகளின்படி நடக்கக்கடவீர்கள்; அப்பொழுது தேசத்திலே சுகமாய்க் குடியிருப்பீர்கள்.

Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.

பூமி தன் கனியைத் தரும்; நீங்கள் திருப்தியாகச் சாப்பிட்டு, அதில் சுகமாய்க் குடியிருப்பீர்கள்.

And the land shall yield her fruit, and ye shall eat your fill, and dwell therein in safety.

ஏழாம் வருஷத்தில் எதைப் புசிப்போம்? நாங்கள் விதைக்காமலும், விளைந்ததைச் சேர்க்காமலும் இருக்கவேண்டுமே! என்று சொல்வீர்களானால்,

And if ye shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase:

நான் ஆறாம் வருஷத்தில் உங்களுக்கு ஆசீர்வாதத்தை அநுக்கிரகம்பண்ணுவேன்; அது உங்களுக்கு மூன்று வருஷத்தின் பலனைத் தரும்.

Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for three years.

நீங்கள் எட்டாம் வருஷத்திலே விதைத்து, ஒன்பதாம் வருஷம்மட்டும் பழைய பலனிலே சாப்பிடுவீர்கள்; அதின் பலன் விளையும்வரைக்கும் பழைய பலனைச் சாப்பிடுவீர்கள்.

And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until the ninth year; until her fruits come in ye shall eat of the old store.

தேசம் என்னுடையதாயிருக்கிறபடியால், நீங்கள் நிலங்களை அறுதியாய் விற்கவேண்டாம்; நீங்கள் பரதேசிகளும் என்னிடத்தில் புறக்குடிகளுமாயிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.

உங்கள் காணியாட்சியான தேசமெங்கும் நிலங்களை மீட்டுக்கொள்ள இடங்கொடுக்கக்கடவீர்கள்.

And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for the land.

உங்கள் சகோதரன் தரித்திரப்பட்டு, தன் காணியாட்சியிலே சிலதை விற்றால், அவன் இனத்தான் ஒருவன் வந்து, தன் சகோதரன் விற்றதை மீட்கக்கடவன்.

If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away some of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold.

அதை மீட்க ஒருவனும் இல்லாமல், தானே அதை மீட்கத்தக்கவனானால்,

And if the man have none to redeem it, and himself be able to redeem it;

அதை விற்றபின் சென்ற வருஷங்களின் தொகையைத் தள்ளி, மீந்த தொகையை ஏற்றி, கொண்டவனுக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவன் தன் காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்.

Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession.

அப்படிக் கொடுப்பதற்கான நிர்வாகம் அவனுக்கு இல்லாவிட்டால், அவன் விற்றது வாங்கினவன் கையிலே யூபிலி வருஷம்மட்டும் இருந்து, யூபிலி வருஷத்திலே அது விடுதலையாகும்; அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பப்போவான்.

But if he be not able to restore it to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of jubile: and in the jubile it shall go out, and he shall return unto his possession.

ஒருவன் மதில்சூழ்ந்த பட்டணத்திலுள்ள தன் வாசஸ்தலமாகிய வீட்டை விற்றால், அதை விற்ற ஒரு வருஷத்துக்குள் அதை மீட்டுக்கொள்ளலாம்; ஒரு வருஷத்துக்குள்ளாகவே அதை மீட்டுக்கொள்ளவேண்டும்.

And if a man sell a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it is sold; within a full year may he redeem it.

ஒரு வருஷத்துக்குள்ளே அதை மீட்டுக்கொள்ளாதிருந்தால், மதில்சூழ்ந்த பட்டணத்திலுள்ள அந்த வீடு தலைமுறைதோறும் அதை வாங்கினவனுக்கே உரியதாகும்; யூபிலி வருஷத்திலும் அது விடுதலையாகாது.

And if it be not redeemed within the space of a full year, then the house that is in the walled city shall be established for ever to him that bought it throughout his generations: it shall not go out in the jubile.

மதில்சூழப்படாத கிராமங்களிலுள்ள வீடுகளோ, தேசத்தின் நிலங்கள்போலவே எண்ணப்படும்; அவைகள் மீட்கப்படலாம்; யூபிலி வருஷத்தில் அவைகள் விடுதலையாகும்.

But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubile.

லேவியரின் காணியாட்சியாகிய பட்டணங்களிலுள்ள வீடுகளையோ லேவியர் எக்காலத்திலும் மீட்டுக்கொள்ளலாம்.

Notwithstanding the cities of the Levites, and the houses of the cities of their possession, may the Levites redeem at any time.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குள்ளே லேவியருடைய பட்டணங்களிலுள்ள வீடுகள் அவர்களுக்குரிய காணியாட்சியானபடியால், லேவியரிடத்தில் அவனுடைய காணியாட்சிப் பட்டணத்திலுள்ள வீட்டை ஒருவன் வாங்கினால், விற்கப்பட்ட அந்த வீடு யூபிலி வருஷத்தில் விடுதலையாகும்.

And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, shall go out in the year of jubile: for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.

அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களைச் சூழ்ந்த வெளிநிலம் விற்கப்படலாகாது; அது அவர்களுக்கு நித்திய காணியாட்சியாயிருக்கும்.

But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.

உன் சகோதரன் தரித்திரப்பட்டு, கையிளைத்துப்போனவனானால் அவனை ஆதரிக்கவேண்டும்; பரதேசியைப்போலும் தங்கவந்தவனைப்போலும் அவன் உன்னோடே பிழைப்பானாக.

And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.

நீ அவன் கையில் வட்டியாவது பொலிசையாவது வாங்காமல், உன் தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, உன் சகோதரன் உன்னோடே பிழைக்கும்படி செய்வாயாக.

Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.

அவனுக்கு உன் பணத்தை வட்டிக்கும், உன் தானியத்தைப் பொலிசைக்கும் கொடாயாக.

Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.

உங்களுக்குக் கானான் தேசத்தைக் கொடுத்து, உங்களுக்கு தேவனாயிருக்கும்படி, உங்களை எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் நானே.

I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.

உன் சகோதரன் தரித்திரனாகி, உனக்கு விலைப்பட்டுப்போனால், அவனை அடிமையைப்போல ஊழியஞ்செய்ய நெருக்கவேண்டாம்.

And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:

அவன் கூலிக்காரனைப்போலவும் தங்கவந்தவனைப்போலவும் உன்னோடே இருந்து, யூபிலி வருஷம்மட்டும் உன்னிடத்தில் சேவிக்கக்கடவன்.

But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile:

பின்பு, தன் பிள்ளைகளோடுங்கூட உன்னை விட்டு நீங்கலாகி, தன் குடும்பத்தாரிடத்துக்கும் தன் பிதாக்களின் காணியாட்சிக்கும் திரும்பிப்போகக்கடவன்.

And then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.

அவர்கள் நான் எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின என்னுடைய ஊழியக்காரர்; ஆகையால், அவர்கள் அடிமைகளாக விற்கப்படலாகாது.

For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.

நீ அவனைக் கொடூரமாய் ஆளாமல், உன் தேவனுக்குப் பயந்திரு.

Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.

உனக்கு இருக்கும் ஆண் அடிமையும் பெண் அடிமையும் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிற புறஜாதிகளாயிருக்கவேண்டும்; அவர்களில் நீ ஆண் அடிமையையும் பெண் அடிமையையும் விலைக்கு வாங்கலாம்.

Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.

உங்களிடத்திலே பரதேசிகளாய்த் தங்குகிற அந்நிய புத்திரரிலும், உங்கள் தேசத்தில் உங்களிடத்திலே பிறந்திருக்கிற அவர்களுடைய குடும்பத்தாரிலும் நீங்கள் உங்களுக்கு அடிமைகளைக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை உங்களுக்குச் சுதந்தரமாக்கலாம்.

Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.

அவர்களை உங்களுக்குப் பின்வரும் உங்கள் சந்ததியாரும் சுதந்தரிக்கும்படி நீங்கள் அவர்களைச் சுதந்தரமாக்கிக்கொள்ளலாம்; என்றைக்கும் அவர்கள் உங்களுக்கு அடிமைகளாயிருக்கலாம்; உங்கள் சகோதரராகிய இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோ ஒருவரையொருவர் கொடூரமாக ஆளக்கூடாது.

And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.

உன்னிடத்தில் இருக்கிற பரதேசியும் அந்நியனும் செல்வனாயிருக்க, அவனிடத்தில் இருக்கிற உன் சகோதரன் தரித்திரப்பட்டு, அந்தப் பரதேசிக்காவது, அந்நியனுக்காவது, பரதேசியின் குடும்பத்தாரில் எவனுக்காவது அவன் விலைப்பட்டுப்போனால்,

And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:

அவன் விலைப்பட்டுப்போனபின் திரும்ப மீட்கப்படலாம்; அவன் சகோதரரில் ஒருவன் அவனை மீட்கலாம்.

After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:

அவனுடைய பிதாவின் சகோதரனாவது, அந்தச் சகோதரனுடைய புத்திரனாவது, அவன் குடும்பத்திலுள்ள அவனைச் சேர்ந்த இனத்தாரில் எவனாவது அவனை மீட்கலாம்; தன்னால் கூடுமானால், தன்னைத்தானே மீட்டுக்கொள்ளலாம்.

Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.

அவன் தான் விலைப்பட்ட வருஷந்தொடங்கி, யூபிலி வருஷம்வரைக்கும் உண்டான காலத்தைத் தன்னை விலைக்குக் கொண்டவனுடன் கணக்குப் பார்க்கக்கடவன்; அவனுடைய விலைக்கிரயம் கூலிக்காரனுடைய காலக்கணக்குப்போல, வருஷத்தொகைக்கு ஒத்துப்பார்க்கவேண்டும்.

And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him.

இன்னும் அநேக வருஷங்கள் இருந்தால், அவன் தன் விலைக்கிரயத்திலே அவைகளுக்குத் தக்கதைத் தன்னை மீட்கும்பொருளாகத் திரும்பக்கொடுக்கக்கடவன்.

If there be yet many years behind, according unto them he shall give again the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.

யூபிலி வருஷம்மட்டும் மீதியாயிருக்கிற வருஷங்கள் கொஞ்சமேயானால், அவனோடே கணக்குப் பார்த்து, தன் வருஷங்களுக்குத்தக்கதை, தன்னை மீட்கும் பொருளாகத் திரும்பக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

And if there remain but few years unto the year of jubile, then he shall count with him, and according unto his years shall he give him again the price of his redemption.

இவன் வருஷத்திற்கு வருஷம் கூலிபொருந்திக்கொண்ட கூலிக்காரனைப் போல, அவனிடத்தில் இருக்கவேண்டும்; அவன் இவனை உனக்கு முன்பாகக் கொடூரமாய் ஆளக்கூடாது.

And as a yearly hired servant shall he be with him: and the other shall not rule with rigour over him in thy sight.

இப்படி இவன் மீட்டுக்கொள்ளப்படாதிருந்தால், இவனும் இவனோடுகூட இவன் பிள்ளைகளும் யூபிலி வருஷத்தில் விடுதலையாவார்கள்.

And if he be not redeemed in these years, then he shall go out in the year of jubile, both he, and his children with him.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் என் ஊழியக்காரர்; அவர்கள் நான் எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின என் ஊழியக்காரரே; நான் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர்.

For unto me the children of Israel are servants; they are my servants whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

லூக்கா அத்தியாயம் 14

ஒரு ஓய்வுநாளிலே பரிசேயரில் தலைவனாகிய ஒருவனுடைய வீட்டிலே அவர் போஜனம் பண்ணும்படிக்குப் போயிருந்தார்.

And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

அப்பொழுது நீர்க்கோவை வியாதியுள்ள ஒரு மனுஷன் அவருக்கு முன்பாக இருந்தான். என்ன செய்வாரோவென்று ஜனங்கள் அவர்மேல் நோக்கமாயிருந்தார்கள்.

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

இயேசு நியாயசாஸ்திரிகளையும் பரிசேயரையும் பார்த்து: ஓய்வு நாளிலே சொஸ்தமாக்குகிறது நியாயமா என்று கேட்டார்.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

அதற்கு அவர்கள் பேசாமலிருந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவர் அவனை அழைத்து, சொஸ்தமாக்கி, அனுப்பிவிட்டு,

And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்களில் ஒருவனுடைய கழுதையாவது எருதாவது ஓய்வுநாளில் துரவிலே விழுந்தால், அவன் அதை உடனே தூக்கிவிடானோ என்றார்.

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

அதற்கு உத்தரவுசொல்ல அவர்களால் கூடாமற்போயிற்று.

And they could not answer him again to these things.

விருந்துக்கு அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் பந்தியில் முதன்மையான இடங்களைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டதை அவர் பார்த்து, அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு உவமையைச் சொன்னார்:

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

ஒருவனால் கலியாணத்துக்கு நீ அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது, பந்தியில் முதன்மையான இடத்தில் உட்காராதே; உன்னிலும் கனமுள்ளவன் ஒருவேளை அவனால் அழைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பான்.

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

அப்பொழுது உன்னையும் அவனையும் அழைத்தவன் உன்னிடத்தில் வந்து: இவருக்கு இடங்கொடு என்பான்; அப்பொழுது நீ வெட்கத்தோடே தாழ்ந்த இடத்திற்குப் போகவேண்டியதாயிருக்கும்.

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

நீ அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது, போய், தாழ்ந்த இடத்தில் உட்காரு; அப்பொழுது உன்னை அழைத்தவன் வந்து: சிநேகிதனே, உயர்ந்த இடத்தில் வாரும் என்று சொல்லும்போது, உன்னுடனேகூடப் பந்தியிருக்கிறவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக உனக்குக் கனமுண்டாகும்.

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

தன்னைத்தான் உயர்த்துகிறவனெவனும் தாழ்த்தப்படுவான், தன்னைத்தான் தாழ்த்துகிறவன் உயர்த்தப்படுவான் என்றார்.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

அன்றியும் அவர் தம்மை விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தவனை நோக்கி: நீ பகல்விருந்தாவது இராவிருந்தாவதுபண்ணும்போது, உன் சிநேகிதரையாகிலும் உன் சகோதரரையாகிலும், உன் பந்து ஜனங்களையாகிலும், ஐசுவரியமுள்ள அயலகத்தாரையாகிலும் அழைக்கவேண்டாம்; அழைத்தால் அவர்களும் உன்னை அழைப்பார்கள், அப்பொழுது உனக்குப் பதிலுக்குப் பதில் செய்ததாகும்.

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

நீ விருந்துபண்ணும்போது ஏழைகளையும் ஊனரையும் சப்பாணிகளையும் குருடரையும் அழைப்பாயாக.

But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

அப்பொழுது நீ பாக்கியவானாயிருப்பாய்; அவர்கள் உனக்குப் பதில் செய்யமாட்டார்கள்; நீதிமான்களின் உயிர்த்தெழுதலில் உனக்குப் பதில் செய்யப்படும் என்றார்.

And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

அவரோடேகூடப் பந்தியிருந்தவர்களில் ஒருவன் இவைகளைக் கேட்டபொழுது, அவரை நோக்கி: தேவனுடைய ராஜ்யத்தில் போஜனம்பண்ணுகிறவன் பாக்கியவான் என்றான்.

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

அதற்கு அவர்: ஒரு மனுஷன் பெரியவிருந்தை ஆயத்தம்பண்ணி, அநேகரை அழைப்பித்தான்.

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

விருந்து வேளையில் தன் ஊழியக்காரனை நோக்கி: நீ அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்களிடத்தில் போய், எல்லாம் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறது வாருங்கள், என்று சொல்லென்று அவனை அனுப்பினான்.

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

அவர்களெல்லாரும் போக்குச்சொல்லத் தொடங்கினார்கள். ஒருவன்: ஒரு வயலைக்கொண்டேன், நான் அகத்தியமாய்ப்போய், அதைப் பார்க்கவேண்டும், என்னை மன்னிக்கும்படி வேண்டிக்கொள்ளுகிறேன் என்றான்.

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

வேறொருவன்: ஐந்தேர்மாடு கொண்டேன், அதைச் சோதித்துப் பார்க்கப்போகிறேன், என்னை மன்னிக்கும்படி வேண்டிக்கொள்ளுகிறேன் என்றான்.

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

வேறொருவன்: பெண்ணை விவாகம்பண்ணினேன், அதினால் நான் வரக்கூடாது என்றான்.

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

அந்த ஊழியக்காரன் வந்து, இவைகளைத் தன் எஜமானுக்கு அறிவித்தான். அப்பொழுது வீட்டெஜமான் கோபமடைந்து, தன் ஊழியக்காரனை நோக்கி: நீ பட்டணத்தின் தெருக்களிலும் வீதிகளிலும் சீக்கிரமாய்ப் போய், ஏழைகளையும் ஊனரையும் சப்பாணிகளையும் குருடரையும் இங்கே கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

ஊழியக்காரன் அப்படியே செய்து: ஆண்டவரே, நீர் கட்டளையிட்டபடி செய்தாயிற்று, இன்னும் இடம் இருக்கிறது என்றான்.

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

அப்பொழுது எஜமான் ஊழியக்காரனை நோக்கி: நீ பெருவழிகளிலும் வேலிகளருகிலும் போய், என் வீடு நிறையும்படியாக ஜனங்களை உள்ளே வரும்படி வருந்திக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவா;

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

அழைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த அந்த மனுஷரில் ஒருவனாகிலும் என் விருந்தை ருசிபார்ப்பதில்லையென்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான் என்று சொன்னார்.

For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

பின்பு அநேக ஜனங்கள் அவரோடேகூடப் பிரயாணமாய்ப் போகையில், அவர்களிடமாய் அவர் திரும்பிப்பார்த்து:

And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

யாதொருவன் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து, தன் தகப்பனையும் தாயையும் மனைவியையும் பிள்ளைகளையும் சகோதரரையும் சகோதரிகளையும், தன் ஜீவனையும் வெறுக்காவிட்டால் எனக்குச் சீஷனாயிருக்கமாட்டான்.

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

தன் சிலுவையைச் சுமந்துகொண்டு எனக்குப் பின்செல்லாதவன் எனக்குச் சீஷனாயிருக்கமாட்டான்.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

உங்களில் ஒருவன் ஒரு கோபுரத்தைக் கட்ட மனதாயிருந்து,

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

அஸ்திபாரம் போட்டபின்பு முடிக்கத் திராணியில்லாமற்போனால், பார்க்கிறவர்களெல்லாரும்:

Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

இந்த மனுஷன் கட்டத்தொடங்கி, முடிக்கத் திராணியில்லாமற்போனான் என்று சொல்லித் தன்னைப் பரியாசம்பண்ணாதபடிக்கு, அதைக் கட்டித் தீர்க்கிறதற்குத் தனக்கு நிர்வாகமுண்டோ இல்லையோ என்று முன்பு அவன் உட்கார்ந்து செல்லுஞ்செலவைக் கணக்குப்பாராமலிருப்பானோ?

Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

அன்றியும் ஒரு ராஜா மற்றொரு ராஜாவோடே யுத்தஞ்செய்யப்போகிறபோது, தன்மேல் இருபதினாயிரம் சேவகரோடே வருகிற அவனைத் தான் பதினாயிரம் சேவகரைக்கொண்டு எதிர்க்கக்கூடுமோ கூடாதோ என்று முன்பு உட்கார்ந்து ஆலோசனைபண்ணாமலிருப்பானோ?

Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

கூடாதென்று கண்டால், மற்றவன் இன்னும் தூரத்திலிருக்கும்போதே, ஸ்தானாதிபதிகளை அனுப்பி, சமாதானத்துக்கானவைகளைக் கேட்டுக்கொள்வானே.

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

அப்படியே உங்களில் எவனாகிலும் தனக்கு உண்டானவைகளையெல்லாம் வெறுத்துவிடாவிட்டால் அவன் எனக்குச் சீஷனாயிருக்கமாட்டான்.

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

உப்பு நல்லதுதான், உப்பு சாரமற்றுப்போனால் எதினால் சாரமாக்கப்படும்?

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

அது நிலத்துக்காகிலும் எருவுக்காகிலும் உதவாது, அதை வெளியே கொட்டிப்போடுவார்கள். கேட்கிறதற்குக் காதுள்ளவன் கேட்கக்கடவன் என்றார்.

It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
