எரேமியா அத்தியாயம் 1

பென்யமீன் தேசத்திலுள்ள ஆனதோத் ஊரிலிருந்த ஆசாரியர்களில் ஒருவனாகிய இல்க்கியாவின் குமாரன் எரேமியாவினுடைய வசனங்கள்:

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

ஆமோனுடைய குமாரனாகிய யோசியா என்கிற யூதாவுடைய ராஜாவின் நாட்களில், அவன் அரசாண்ட பதின்மூன்றாம் வருஷத்தில் இவனுக்குக் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை உண்டாயிற்று.

To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

அப்புறம் யோசியாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோயாக்கீம் என்கிற யூதாவுடைய ராஜாவின் நாட்களிலும், யோசியாவின் குமாரனாகிய சிதேக்கியா என்கிற யூதாவுடைய ராஜாவின் பதினோராம் வருஷத்து முடிவுமட்டாகவும், எருசலேம் ஊரார் ஐந்தாம் மாதத்தில் சிறைப்பட்டுப்போகும்வரைக்கும் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை அவனுக்கு உண்டாயிற்று.

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை எனக்கு உண்டாகி, அவர்:

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

நான் உன்னைத் தாயின் வயிற்றில் உருவாக்குமுன்னே உன்னை அறிந்தேன்; நீ கர்ப்பத்திலிருந்து வெளிப்படுமுன்னே நான் உன்னைப் பரிசுத்தம்பண்ணி, உன்னை ஜாதிகளுக்குத் தீர்க்கதரிசியாகக் கட்டளையிட்டேன் என்று சொன்னார்.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

அப்பொழுது நான்: ஆ கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவரே, இதோ, நான் பேச அறியேன்; சிறுபிள்ளையாயிருக்கிறேன் என்றேன்.

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

ஆனாலும் கர்த்தர்: நான் சிறுபிள்ளையென்று நீ சொல்லாதே, நான் உன்னை அனுப்புகிற எல்லாரிடத்திலும் நீ போய், நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறவைகளையெல்லாம் நீ பேசுவாயாக.

But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

நீ அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டாம்; உன்னைக் காக்கும்படிக்கு நான் உன்னுடனே இருக்கிறேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லி,

Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

கர்த்தர் தமது கரத்தை நீட்டி, என் வாயைத் தொட்டு: இதோ, என் வார்த்தைகளை உன் வாயிலே வைக்கிறேன்.

Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

பார், பிடுங்கவும், இடிக்கவும், அழிக்கவும், கவிழ்க்கவும், கட்டவும், நாட்டவும் உன்னை நான் இன்றையதினம் ஜாதிகளின்மேலும் ராஜ்யங்களின்மேலும் ஏற்படுத்தினேன் என்று கர்த்தர் என்னுடனே சொன்னார்.

See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

பின்னும் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை எனக்கு உண்டாகி அவர்: எரேமியாவே, நீ என்னத்தைக் காண்கிறாய் என்று கேட்டார்; வாதுமை மரத்தின் கிளையைக் காண்கிறேன் என்றேன்.

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: நீ கண்டது சரியே; என் வார்த்தையைத் தீவிரமாய் நிறைவேற்றுவேன் என்றார்.

Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை இரண்டாந்தரம் எனக்கு உண்டாகி, அவர்: நீ காண்கிறது என்ன என்று கேட்டார்; பொங்குகிற பானையைக் காண்கிறேன், அதின் வாய் வடக்கேயிருந்து நோக்குகிறது என்றேன்.

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் என்னை நோக்கி: வடக்கேயிருந்து தீங்கு தேசத்தினுடைய குடிகள் எல்லார்மேலும் வரும்.

Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

இதோ, நான் வடதிசை ராஜ்யங்களின் வம்சங்களையெல்லாம் கூப்பிடுவேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்; அவர்கள் வந்து அவனவன் தன்தன் சிங்காசனத்தை எருசலேமின் ஒலிமுகவாசல்களுக்கும், அதின் சுற்றுமதில்கள் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் விரோதமாகவும், யூதா தேசத்து எல்லாப் பட்டணங்களுக்கும் விரோதமாகவும் வைப்பார்கள்.

For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

அவர்கள் என்னைவிட்டு அந்நிய தேவர்களுக்குத் தூபங்காட்டி, தங்கள் கைகளின் கிரியையைப் பணிந்துகொண்ட அவர்களுடைய சகல தீமைகளினிமித்தமும் நான் என் நியாயத்தீர்ப்புகளை அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாகக் கூறுவேன்.

And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

ஆகையால் நீ உன் அரையைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு நின்று, நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறவைகளையெல்லாம் அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்; நான் உன்னை அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் கலங்கப்பண்ணாதபடிக்கு, நீ அவர்கள் முகத்துக்கு அஞ்சாதிரு.

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

இதோ, தேசமனைத்துக்கும், யூதாவின் ராஜாக்களுக்கும், அதின் பிரபுக்களுக்கும், அதின் ஆசாரியர்களுக்கும், தேசத்தின் ஜனங்களுக்கும் எதிராக நான் உன்னை இன்றையதினம் அரணிப்பான பட்டணமும், இருப்புத்தூணும், வெண்கல அலங்கமும் ஆக்கினேன்.

For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

அவர்கள் உனக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம்பண்ணுவார்கள்; ஆனாலும் உன்னை மேற்கொள்ளமாட்டார்கள்; உன்னை இரட்சிக்கும்படிக்கு நான் உன்னுடனே இருக்கிறேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

எரேமியா அத்தியாயம் 2

கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை எனக்கு உண்டாகி, அவர்:

Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

நீ போய், எருசலேமின் செவிகள் கேட்கும்படிக் கூப்பிட்டுச் சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: விதைக்கப்படாத தேசமாகிய வனாந்தரத்திலே நீ என்னைப் பின்பற்றிவந்த உன் இளவயதின் பக்தியையும், நீ வாழ்க்கைப்பட்டபோது உனக்கிருந்த நேசத்தையும் நினைத்திருக்கிறேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

இஸ்ரவேல் கர்த்தருக்குப் பரிசுத்தமும், அவருடைய விளைவின் முதற்பலனுமாயிருந்தது; அதைப் பட்சித்த யாவரும் குற்றவாளிகளானார்கள்; பொல்லாப்பு அவர்கள்மேல் வந்ததென்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

யாக்கோபின் குடும்பத்தாரே, இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தின் வம்சங்களே, நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையைக் கேளுங்கள்.

Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறது என்னவென்றால்: எங்களை எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து வரப்பண்ணினவரும், அவாந்தரவெளியும், பள்ளங்களுமுள்ள தேசமும், வறட்சியும், மரண இருளுமுள்ள தேசமும், ஒருவனும் கடவாமலும் ஒரு மனுஷனும் குடியிராமலும் இருக்கிற தேசமுமான வனாந்தரத்தில் எங்களை நடத்தினவருமாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்கேயென்று உங்கள் பிதாக்கள் கேளாமல்,

Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

என்னைவிட்டுத் தூரப்பட்டு, மாயையைப் பின்பற்றி, வீணராய்ப் போகிறதற்கு என்னிடத்தில் என்ன அநியாயத்தைக் கண்டார்கள்?

Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

செழிப்பான தேசத்தின் கனியையும் நன்மையையும் சாப்பிடும்படிக்கு நான் உங்களை அவ்விடத்துக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தேன்; ஆனாலும் நீங்கள் அதற்குள் பிரவேசித்தபோது, என் தேசத்தைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தி, என் சுதந்தரத்தை அருவருப்பாக்கினீர்கள்.

And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

கர்த்தர் எங்கேயென்று ஆசாரியர்கள் சொல்லாமலும், வேதத்தைப் போதிக்கிறவர்கள் என்னை அறியாமலுமிருந்து, மேய்ப்பர்கள் எனக்குத் துரோகம்பண்ணினார்கள்; தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் பாகாலைக்கொண்டு தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லி, வீணானவைகளைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

ஆதலால் இன்னும் நான் உங்களோடே வழக்காடுவேன், உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகளோடும் வழக்காடுவேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.

நீங்கள் கித்தீமின் தீவுகள்மட்டும் கடந்துபோய்ப் பார்த்து, கேதாருக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பி நன்றாய் விசாரித்து, இப்படிப்பட்ட காரியம் உண்டோ என்றும்,

For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

எந்த ஜாதியாவது தேவர்களல்லாத தங்கள் தேவர்களை மாற்றினது உண்டோ என்றும் பாருங்கள்; என் ஜனங்களோ வீணானவைகளுக்காகத் தங்கள் மகிமையை மாற்றினார்கள்.

Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

வானங்களே, இதினிமித்தம் பிரமித்துக் கொந்தளித்து, மிகவும் திடுக்கிடுங்கள் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

என் ஜனங்கள் இரண்டு தீமைகளைச் செய்தார்கள்; ஜீவத்தண்ணீர் ஊற்றாகிய என்னை விட்டுவிட்டார்கள்; தண்ணீர் நிற்காத தொட்டிகளாகிய வெடிப்புள்ள தொட்டிகளைத் தங்களுக்கு வெட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

இஸ்ரவேல் ஒரு வேலைக்காரனோ? அவன் வீட்டில் பிறந்த அடிமையோ? ஏன் கொள்ளையானான்?

Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

பாலசிங்கங்கள் அவன்மேல் கெர்ச்சித்து, முழங்கி, அவன் தேசத்தைப் பாழாக்கிவிட்டன; அவன் பட்டணங்கள் குடியிராமல் சுட்டெரிக்கப்பட்டன.

The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

நோப், தகபானேஸ் என்னும் பட்டணங்களின் புத்திரரும், உன் உச்சந்தலையை நொறுக்கினார்கள்.

Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உன்னை வழியிலே நடத்திக்கொண்டுபோகுங்காலத்தில், நீ அவரை விட்டுப்போகிறதினால் அல்லவோ இதை உனக்கு நேரிடப்பண்ணினாய்?

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

இப்போதும் சீகோரின் தண்ணீரைக் குடிப்பதற்கு எகிப்துக்குப் போகிறதினால் உனக்குப் பிரயோஜனம் என்ன? ஐப்பிராத்து நதியின் தண்ணீரைக் குடிப்பதற்கு அசீரியாவுக்குப் போகிறதினால் உனக்குப் பிரயோஜனம் என்ன?

And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

உன் தீமை உன்னைத் தண்டிக்கும், உன் மாறுபாடுகள் உன்னைக் கண்டிக்கும்; நீ உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை விடுகிறதும், என்னைப்பற்றும் பயம் உன்னிடத்தில் இல்லாமலிருக்கிறதும், எத்தனை பொல்லாப்பும் கசப்புமான காரியம் என்று உணர்ந்துகொள் என்று சேனைகளின் கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

பூர்வகாலந்துவக்கி நான் உன் நுகத்தடியை முறித்து, உன் கட்டுகளை அறுத்தேன்; நான் அடிமைப்படுவதில்லையென்று நீயும் சொன்னாயே; ஆகிலும், உயரமான சகல மேட்டின்மேலும், பச்சையான சகல மரத்தின்கீழும் நீ வேசியாய்த் திரிகிறாய்.

For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

நான் உன்னை முற்றிலும் நற்கனிதரும் உயர்குலத் திராட்சச்செடியாக நாட்டினேன்; நீ எனக்குக் காட்டுத்திராட்சச்செடியின் ஆகாத கொடிகளாய் மாறிப்போனது என்ன?

Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

நீ உன்னை உவர்மண்ணினாலே கழுவி, அதிக சவுக்காரத்தைக் கையாடினாலும், உன் அக்கிரமத்தின் கறைகள் எனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்குமென்று கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

நான் தீட்டுப்படவில்லை; நான் பாகால்களைப் பின்பற்றவில்லை என்று நீ எப்படிச் சொல்லுகிறாய்? பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே நீ நடக்கிற மார்க்கத்தைப் பார்; நீ செய்ததை உணர்ந்துகொள்; தாறுமாறாய் ஓடுகிற வேகமான பெண்ணொட்டகம் நீ.

How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

வனாந்தரத்திலே பழகினதும், தன் இச்சையின் மதவெறியிலே காற்றை உட்கொள்ளுகிறதுமான காட்டுக்கழுதை நீ; அதின் ஆவலை நிறுத்தி, அதைத் திருப்புகிறவன் யார்? அதைத் தேடுகிறவர்கள் ஒருவரும் வருத்தப்படவேண்டியதில்லை; அதின் மாசத்தில் அதைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பார்கள்.

A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

உன் கால் வெறுங்காலாகாதபடிக்கும், உன் தொண்டை வறட்சியடையாதபடிக்கும் அடக்கிக்கொள் என்றால், நீ: அது கூடாதகாரியம்; நான் அப்படிச் செய்யமாட்டேன்; அந்நியரை நேசிக்கிறேன்; அவர்கள் பிறகே போவேன் என்கிறாய்.

Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

திருடன் அகப்படுகிறபோது, எப்படி வெட்கப்படுகிறானோ, அப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் வம்சத்தார் வெட்கப்படுவார்கள்; கட்டையைப் பார்த்து, நீ என் தகப்பன் என்றும்; கல்லைப்பார்த்து, நீ என்னைப் பெற்றாய் என்றும் சொல்லுகிற அவர்களும், அவர்கள் ராஜாக்களும், அவர்கள் பிரபுக்களும், அவர்கள் ஆசாரியர்களும், அவர்கள் தீர்க்தரிசிகளும் வெட்கப்படுவார்கள்.

As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

அவர்கள் தங்கள் முகத்தையல்ல, தங்கள் முதுகை எனக்குக் காட்டினார்கள்; தங்கள் ஆபத்துக்காலத்திலோ எழுந்து எங்களை இரட்சியும் என்கிறார்கள்.

Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

நீ உனக்கு உண்டுபண்ணின தேவர்கள் எங்கே? உன் ஆபத்துக்காலத்தில் உன்னை இரட்சிக்கக்கூடுமானால் அவைகள் எழும்பட்டும்; யூதாவே, உன் பட்டணங்களின் இலக்கமும், உன் தேவர்களின் இலக்கமும் சரி.

But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

என்னோடே நீங்கள் வழக்காடுவானேன்? நீங்கள் அனைவரும் எனக்கு விரோதமாய்த் துரோகம் பண்ணினீர்கள் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

நான் உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளை அடித்தது விருதா; சிட்சையை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாமற்போனார்கள்; அழிக்கிற சிங்கத்தைப்போல உங்கள் பட்டயம் உங்கள் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைப் பட்சித்தது.

In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

சந்ததியாரே, நீங்கள் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையைச் சிந்தித்துப்பாருங்கள்: நான் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு வனாந்தரமும், காரிருளான பூமியுமாக இருந்தேனோ? பின்னை ஏன் என் ஜனங்கள்; நாங்களே எஜமான்கள், இனி உம்மிடத்தில் நாங்கள் வருவதில்லையென்று சொல்லுகிறார்கள்.

O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

ஒரு பெண் தன் ஆபரணத்தையும், ஒரு மணவாட்டி தன் ஆடைகளையும் மறப்பாளோ? என் ஜனங்களோ எண்ணிமுடியாத நாட்களாய் என்னை மறந்துவிட்டார்கள்.

Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

நேசத்தைத் தேடும்படிக்கு நீ உன் வழிகளை நயப்படுத்துகிறதென்ன? இவ்விதமாய் நீ பொல்லாத ஸ்திரீகளுக்கும் உன் வழிகளைக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்தாய்.

Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

உன் வஸ்திர ஓரங்களிலும் குற்றமில்லாத ஏழை ஆத்துமாக்களின் இரத்தம் காணப்படுகிறது; அதைத் தோண்டித் தேடுகிறதினால் அல்ல, அது எல்லாவற்றின்மேலும் வெளியாயிருக்கிறதினால் அதைக் கண்டுபிடித்தேன்.

Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

ஆகிலும்: குற்றமில்லாதிருக்கிறேன் என்றும், அவருடைய கோபம் என்னைவிட்டுத் திரும்பிற்று என்றும் சொல்லுகிறாய்; இதோ, நான் பாவஞ்செய்யவில்லையென்று நீ சொல்லுகிறதினிமித்தம் நான் உன்னோடே வழக்காடுவேன்.

Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

நீ உன் வழியை மாற்றிமாற்றி இவ்வளவாய் விலகிப்போகிறது என்ன? நீ அசீரியாவினால் வெட்கிப்போனதுபோல எகிப்தினாலும் வெட்கிப்போவாய்.

Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

நீ உன் கைகளை உன் தலையின்மேல் வைத்துக்கொண்டு இவ்விடத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போவாய்; ஏனெனில், உன் நம்பிக்கைகளைக் கர்த்தர் வெறுத்திருக்கிறார்; அவைகளால் உனக்குக் காரியம் வாய்க்காது.

Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

அப்போஸ்தலர் அத்தியாயம் 23

பவுல் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தாரை உற்றுப்பார்த்து: சகோதரரே, இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் எல்லா விஷயங்களிலும் நான் நல்மனச்சாட்சியோடே தேவனுக்குமுன்பாக நடந்துவந்தேன் என்று சொன்னான்.

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

அப்பொழுது பிரதானஆசாரியனாகிய அனனியா அவனுக்குச் சமீபமாய் நின்றவர்களை நோக்கி: இவன் வாயில் அடியுங்கள் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்.

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

அப்பொழுது பவுல் அவனைப்பார்த்து: வெள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்ட சுவரே, தேவன் உம்மை அடிப்பார்; நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தின்படி என்னை நியாயம் விசாரிக்கிறவராய் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிற நீர் நியாயப்பிரமாணத்திற்கு விரோதமாய் என்னை அடிக்கச் சொல்லலாமா என்றான்.

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

சமீபத்திலே நின்றவர்கள்: தேவனுடைய பிரதானஆசாரியரை வைகிறாயா என்றார்கள்.

And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?

அதற்குப் பவுல்: சகோதரரே, இவர் பிரதானஆசாரியரென்று எனக்குத் தெரியாது; உன் ஜனத்தின் அதிபதியைத் தீது சொல்லாயாக என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறதே என்றான்.

Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

பின்பு அவர்களில், சதுசேயர் ஒரு பங்கும் பரிசேயர் ஒரு பங்குமாயிருக்கிறார்களென்று பவுல் அறிந்து: சகோதரரே, நான் பரிசேயனும் பரிசேயனுடைய மகனுமாயிருக்கிறேன். மரித்தோருடைய உயிர்த்தெழுதலைப்பற்றிய நம்பிக்கையைக் குறித்து நான் நியாயம் விசாரிக்கப்படுகிறேன் என்று ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்திலே சத்தமிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

அவன் இப்படிச் சொன்னபோது, பரிசேயருக்கும் சதுசேயருக்கும் வாக்குவாதமுண்டாயிற்று; கூட்டம் இரண்டாகப் பிரிந்தது.

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

என்னத்தினாலென்றால், சதுசேயர் உயிர்தெழுதல் இல்லையென்றும், தேவதூதனும் ஆவியும் இல்லையென்றும் சொல்லுகிறார்கள். பரிசேயரோ அவ்விரண்டும் உண்டென்று ஒப்புக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

ஆகையால் மிகுந்த கூக்குரல் உண்டாயிற்று. பரிசேய சமயத்தாரான வேதபாரகரில் சிலர் எழுந்து: இந்த மனுஷனிடத்தில் ஒரு பொல்லாங்கையும் காணோம்; ஒரு ஆவி அல்லது ஒரு தேவதூதன் இவனுடனே பேசினதுண்டானால், நாம் தேவனுடனே போர்செய்வது தகாது என்று வாதாடினார்கள்.

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

மிகுந்த கலகம் உண்டானபோது, பவுல் அவர்களால் பீறுண்டுபோவானென்று சேனாதிபதி பயந்து, போர்ச்சேவகர் போய், அவனை அவர்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து இழுத்துக் கோட்டைக்குக் கொண்டுபோகும்படி கட்டளையிட்டான்.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

அன்று இராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் பவுலின் அருகே நின்று: பவுலே, திடன்கொள்; நீ என்னைக்குறித்து எருசலேமிலே சாட்சிகொடுத்ததுபோல ரோமாவிலும் சாட்சிகொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றார்.

And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

விடியற்காலமானபோது, யூதரில் சிலர் ஒருமித்து, தாங்கள் பவுலைக் கொலைசெய்யுமளவும் புசிப்பதுமில்லை குடிப்பதுமில்லையென்று சபதம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

இப்படிக் கட்டுப்பாடுபண்ணிக்கொண்டவர்கள் நாற்பதுபேருக்கு அதிகமாயிருந்தார்கள்.

And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

அவர்கள் பிரதானஆசாரியர்களிடத்திலும் மூப்பர்களிடத்திலும் போய்: நாங்கள் பவுலைக் கொலைசெய்யுமளவும் ஒன்றும் புசிப்பதில்லையென்று உறுதியான சபதம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டோம்.

And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

ஆனபடியினால் நீங்கள் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தாரோடே கூடப்போய், அவனுடைய காரியத்தை அதிக திட்டமாய் விசாரிக்க மனதுள்ளவர்கள்போலச் சேனாதிபதிக்குக் காண்பித்து, அவர் நாளைக்கு அவனை உங்களிடத்தில் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவரும்படி அவரிடத்தில் கேட்பீர்களாக. அவன் கிட்டவருகிறதற்குள்ளே நாங்கள் அவனைக் கொலைசெய்ய ஆயத்தமாயிருப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

இந்தச் சர்ப்பனையைப் பவுலினுடைய சகோதரியின் குமாரன் கேள்விப்பட்டு, கோட்டைக்குள்ளே போய், பவுலுக்கு அறிவித்தான்.

And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

அப்பொழுது பவுல் நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதிகளில் ஒருவனை அழைத்து, இந்த வாலிபனைச் சேனாதிபதியினிடத்திற்குக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோம்; அவரிடத்தில் இவன் அறிவிக்கவேண்டிய ஒரு காரியம் உண்டு என்றான்.

Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

அந்தப்படியே அவன் இவனைச் சேனாதிபதியினிடத்திற்குக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்: காவலில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிற பவுல் என்னை அழைத்து, உமக்கொரு காரியத்தைச் சொல்லவேண்டுமென்றிருக்கிற இந்த வாலிபனை உம்மிடத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோகும்படி என்னைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டான் என்றான்.

So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

அப்பொழுது சேனாதிபதி அவனுடைய கையைப்பிடித்துத் தனியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்: நீ என்னிடத்தில் அறிவிக்கவேண்டிய காரியம் என்னவென்று கேட்டான்.

Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

அதற்கு அவன்: யூதர்கள் பவுலின் காரியத்தை அதிக திட்டமாய் விசாரிக்க மனதுள்ளவர்கள்போல, நீர் நாளைக்கு அவனை ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தாரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவரும்படி உம்மை வேண்டிக்கொள்ள உடன்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.

And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

நீர் அவர்களுக்குச் சம்மதிக்கவேண்டாம்; அவர்களில் நாற்பதுபேருக்கு அதிகமானவர்கள் அவனைக் கொலைசெய்யுமளவும் தாங்கள் புசிப்பதுமில்லை குடிப்பதுமில்லையென்று சபதம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, அவனுக்குப் பதிவிருந்து, உம்முடைய உத்தரவுக்காக இப்பொழுது காத்துக்கொண்டு ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றான்.

But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

அப்பொழுது சேனாதிபதி: நீ இவைகளை எனக்கு அறிவித்ததாக ஒருவருக்குஞ்சொல்லாதே என்று கட்டளையிட்டு, வாலிபனை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

பின்பு அவன் நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதிகளில் இரண்டுபேரை அழைத்து, செசரியா பட்டணத்திற்குப் போகும்படி இருநூறு காலாட்களையும், எழுபது குதிரை வீரரையும், இருநூறு ஈட்டிக்காரரையும், இராத்திரியில் மூன்றாம்மணி வேளையிலே, ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுங்களென்றும்;

And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

பவுலை ஏற்றி, தேசாதிபதியாகிய பேலிக்ஸினிடத்திற்குப் பத்திரமாய்க் கொண்டுபோகும்படிக்குக் குதிரைகளை ஆயத்தப்படுத்துங்களென்றும் சொன்னதுமன்றி,

And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

ஒரு நிருபத்தையும் எழுதினான்; அதின் விவரமாவது:

And he wrote a letter after this manner:

கனம்பொருந்திய தேசாதிபதியாகிய பேலிக்ஸ் என்பவருக்குக் கிலவுதியுலீசியா வாழ்த்துதல் சொல்லி அறிவிக்கிறது என்னவென்றால்:

Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

இந்த மனுஷனை யூதர் பிடித்துக் கொலைசெய்யப்போகிற சமயத்தில், நான் போர்ச்சேவகரோடே கூடப்போய், இவன் ரோமனென்று அறிந்து, இவனை விடுவித்தேன்.

This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

அவர்கள் இவன்மேல் சாட்டின குற்றத்தை நான் அறியவேண்டுமென்று இவனை அவர்கள் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்துக்குமுன் கொண்டுபோனேன்.

And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

இவன் அவர்களுடைய வேதத்திற்கடுத்த விஷயங்களைக்குறித்துக் குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்பட்டவனென்று விளங்கினதேயல்லாமல், மரணத்துக்காவது விலங்குக்காவது ஏற்ற குற்றம் யாதொன்றும் இவனிடத்தில் இல்லையென்று கண்டறிந்தேன்.

Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

யூதர்கள் இவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சர்ப்பனையான யோசனை செய்கிறார்களென்று எனக்குத் தெரியவந்தபோது, உடனே இவனை உம்மிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பினேன்; குற்றஞ்சாட்டுகிறவர்களும் இவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிற காரியங்களை உமக்கு முன்பாகவந்து சொல்லும்படி அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டேன். சுகமாயிருப்பீராக, என்றெழுதினான்.

And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

போர்ச்சேவகர் தங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே, பவுலைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, இராத்திரியிலே அந்திப்பத்திரி ஊருக்குப் போய்,

Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

மறுநாளில் குதிரைவீரரை அவனுடனேகூடப் போகும்படி அனுப்பிவிட்டு, தாங்கள் கோட்டைக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

அவர்கள் செசரியா பட்டணத்தில் சேர்ந்து, நிருபத்தைத் தேசாதிபதியினிடத்தில் கொடுத்து, பவுலையும் அவன் முன்பாக நிறுத்தினார்கள்.

Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

தேசாதிபதி அதை வாசித்து: எந்த நாட்டானென்று கேட்டு, சிலிசியா நாட்டானென்று அறிந்தபோது:

And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;

உன்மேல் குற்றஞ்சாட்டுகிறவர்களும் வந்திருக்கும்போது உன் காரியத்தைத் திட்டமாய்க் கேட்பேனென்று சொல்லி, ஏரோதின் அரமனையிலே அவனைக் காவல்பண்ணும்படி கட்டளையிட்டான்.

I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.
