நீதிமொழிகள் அத்தியாயம் 4

பிள்ளைகளே, நீங்கள் தகப்பன் போதகத்தைக் கேட்டு, புத்தியை அடையும்படி கவனியுங்கள்.

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

நான் உங்களுக்கு நற்போதகத்தைத் தருகிறேன்; என் உபதேசத்தை விடாதிருங்கள்.

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

நான் என் தகப்பனுக்குப் பிரியமான குமாரனும், என் தாய்க்கு மிகவும் அருமையான ஒரே பிள்ளையுமானவன்.

For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

அவர் எனக்குப் போதித்துச் சொன்னது: உன் இருதயம் என் வார்த்தைகளைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளக்கடவது; என் கட்டளைகளைக் கைக்கொள், அப்பொழுது பிழைப்பாய்.

He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

ஞானத்தைச் சம்பாதி, புத்தியையும் சம்பாதி; என் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளை மறவாமலும் விட்டு விலகாமலும் இரு.

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

அதை விடாதே, அது உன்னைத் தற்காக்கும்; அதின்மேல் பிரியமாயிரு, அது உன்னைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும்.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

ஞானமே முக்கியம், ஞானத்தைச் சம்பாதி; என்னத்தைச் சம்பாதித்தாலும் புத்தியைச் சம்பாதித்துக்கொள்.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

நீ அதை மேன்மைப்படுத்து, அது உன்னை மேன்மைப்படுத்தும்; நீ அதைத் தழுவிக்கொண்டால், அது உன்னைக் கனம்பண்ணும்.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

அது உன் தலைக்கு அலங்காரமான முடியைக் கொடுக்கும்; அது மகிமையான கிரீடத்தை உனக்குச் சூட்டும்.

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

என் மகனே, கேள், என் வார்த்தைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்; அப்பொழுது உன் ஆயுசின் வருஷங்கள் அதிகமாகும்.

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

ஞானமார்க்கத்தை நான் உனக்குப் போதித்தேன்; செவ்வையான பாதைகளிலே உன்னை நடத்தினேன்.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

நீ அவைகளில் நடக்கும்போது உன் நடைகளுக்கு இடுக்கண் உண்டாவதில்லை; நீ அவைகளில் ஓடினாலும் இடறமாட்டாய்.

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

புத்திமதியை உறுதியாய்ப் பற்றிக்கொள், அதை விட்டுவிடாதே; அதைக்காத்துக்கொள், அதுவே உனக்கு ஜீவன்.

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

துன்மார்க்கருடைய பாதையில் பிரவேசியாதே; தீயோருடைய வழியில் நடவாதே.

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

அதை வெறுத்துவிடு, அதின் வழியாய்ப் போகாதே; அதை விட்டு விலகிக் கடந்துபோ.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

பொல்லாப்புச் செய்தாலொழிய அவர்களுக்கு நித்திரை வராது; அவர்கள் யாரையாகிலும் விழப்பண்ணாதிருந்தால் அவர்கள் தூக்கம் கலைந்துபோகும்.

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

அவர்கள் ஆகாமியத்தின் அப்பத்தைப் புசித்து, கொடுமையின் இரசத்தைக் குடிக்கிறார்கள்.

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

நீதிமான்களுடைய பாதை நடுப்பகல்வரைக்கும் அதிகமதிகமாய்ப் பிரகாசிக்கிற சூரியப்பிரகாசம் போலிருக்கும்.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

துன்மார்க்கருடைய பாதையோ காரிருளைப்போலிருக்கும்; தாங்கள் இடறுவது இன்னதில் என்று அறியார்கள்.

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

என் மகனே, என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கவனி; என் வசனங்களுக்கு உன் செவியைச் சாய்.

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

அவைகள் உன் கண்களை விட்டுப் பிரியாதிருப்பதாக; அவைகளை உன் இருதயத்துக்குள்ளே காத்துக்கொள்.

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

அவைகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கிறவர்களுக்கு அவைகள் ஜீவனும், அவர்கள் உடலுக்கெல்லாம் ஆரோக்கியமுமாம்.

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

எல்லாக் காவலோடும் உன் இருதயத்தைக் காத்துக்கொள், அதினிடத்தினின்று ஜீவவூற்று புறப்படும்.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

வாயின் தாறுமாறுகளை உன்னை விட்டகற்றி, உதடுகளின் மாறுபாட்டை உனக்குத் தூரப்படுத்து.

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

உன் கண்கள் நேராய் நோக்கக்கடவது; உன் கண்ணிமைகள் உனக்கு முன்னே செவ்வையாய்ப் பார்க்கக்கடவது.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

உன் கால் நடையைச் சீர்தூக்கிப்பார்; உன் வழிகளெல்லாம் நிலைவரப்பட்டிருப்பதாக.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

வலதுபுறமாவது இடதுபுறமாவது சாயாதே; உன் காலைத் தீமைக்கு விலக்குவாயாக.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

நீதிமொழிகள் அத்தியாயம் 5

என் மகனே, என் ஞானத்தைக் கவனித்து, என் புத்திக்கு உன் செவியைச் சாய்;

My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

அப்பொழுது நீ விவேகத்தைப் பேணிக்கொள்வாய், உன் உதடுகள் அறிவைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளும்.

That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

பரஸ்திரீயின் உதடுகள் தேன்கூடுபோல் ஒழுகும்; அவள் வாய் எண்ணெயிலும் மிருதுவாயிருக்கும்.

For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

அவள் செய்கையின் முடிவோ எட்டியைப்போலக் கசப்பும், இருபுறமும் கருக்குள்ள பட்டயம்போல் கூர்மையுமாயிருக்கும்.

But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

அவள் காலடிகள் மரணத்துக்கு இறங்கும்; அவள் நடைகள் பாதாளத்தைப் பற்றிப்போகும்.

Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

நீ ஜீவமார்க்கத்தைச் சிந்தித்துக் கொள்ளாதபடிக்கு, அவளுடைய நடைகள் மாறிமாறி விகாரப்படும்; அவைகளை அறியமுடி.யாது.

Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

ஆதலால் பிள்ளைகளே; இப்பொழுது எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்; என் வாயின் வசனங்களை விட்டு நீங்காதிருங்கள்.

Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

உன் வழியை அவளுக்குத் தூரப்படுத்து; அவளுடைய வீட்டின் வாசலைக் கிட்டிச் சேராதே.

Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

சேர்ந்தால் உன் மேன்மையை அந்நியர்களுக்கும், உன் ஆயுசின் காலத்தைக் கொடூரருக்கும் கொடுத்துவிடுவாய்.

Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

அந்நியர் உன் செல்வத்தினால் திருப்தியடைவார்கள்; உன் பிரயாசத்தின்பலன் புறத்தியாருடைய வீட்டில் சேரும்.

Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

முடிவிலே உன் மாம்சமும் உன் சரீரமும் உருவழியும்போது நீ துக்கித்து:

And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

ஐயோ, போதகத்தை நான் வெறுத்தேனே, கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை என் மனம் அலட்சியம் பண்ணினதே!

And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

என் போதகரின் சொல்லை நான் கேளாமலும், எனக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணினவர்களுக்கு என் செவியைச் சாயாமலும் போனேனே!

And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

சபைக்குள்ளும் சங்கத்துக்குள்ளும் கொஞ்சங்குறைய எல்லாத் தீமைக்குமுள்ளானேனே! என்று முறையிடுவாய்.

I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

உன் கிணற்றிலுள்ள தண்ணீரையும், உன் துரவில் ஊறுகிற ஜலத்தையும் பானம்பண்ணு.

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

உன் ஊற்றுகள் வெளியிலும் உன் வாய்க்கால்கள் வீதிகளிலும் பாய்வதாக.

Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

அவைகள் அந்நியருக்கும் உரியவைகளாயிராமல், உனக்கே உரியவைகளாயிருப்பதாக.

Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

உன் ஊற்றுக்கண் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவதாக; உன் இளவயதின் மனைவியோடே மகிழ்ந்திரு.

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

அவளே நேசிக்கப்படத்தக்க பெண்மானும், அழகான வரையாடும் போலிருப்பாளாக; அவளுடைய ஸ்தனங்களே எப்பொழுதும் உன்னைத் திருப்திசெய்வதாக; அவளுடைய நேசத்தால் நீ எப்பொழுதும் மயங்கியிருப்பாயாக.

Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

என் மகனே, நீ பரஸ்திரீயின் மேல் மயங்கித் திரிந்து, அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயின் மார்பைத் தழுவவேண்டியதென்ன?

And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

மனுஷனுடைய வழிகள் கர்த்தரின் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; அவனுடைய வழிகளெல்லாவற்றையும் அவர் சீர்தூக்கிப்பார்க்கிறார்.

For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

துன்மார்க்கனை அவனுடைய அக்கிரமங்களே பிடித்துக்கொள்ளும்; தன் பாவக்கயிறுகளால் கட்டப்படுவான்.

His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

அவன் புத்தியைக் கேளாததினால் மடிந்து, தன் மதிகேட்டின் மிகுதியினால் மயங்கிப்போவான்.

He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

நீதிமொழிகள் அத்தியாயம் 6

என் மகனே, நீ உன் சிநேகிதனுக்காகப் பிணைப்பட்டு, அந்நியனுக்குக் கையடித்துக்கொடுத்தாயானால்,

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

நீ உன் வாய்மொழிகளால் சிக்குண்டாய், உன் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளால் பிடிபட்டாய்.

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

இப்பொழுது என் மகனே, உன் சிநேகிதனுடைய கையில் நீ அகப்பட்டுக்கொண்டபடியால், நீ உன்னைத் தப்புவித்துக்கொள்ள ஒன்று செய்.

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

உன் கண்ணுக்கு நித்திரையும், உன் கண்ணிமைக்குத் தூக்கமும் வரவிடாமல், உன் சிநேகிதனிடத்தில் போய், உன்னைத் தாழ்த்தி, அவனை வருந்திக் கேட்டுக்கொள்.

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

வெளிமான் வேட்டைக்காரன் கைக்கும், குருவி வேடன் கைக்கும் தப்புவதுபோல, நீ உன்னைத் தப்புவித்துக்கொள்.

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

சோம்பேறியே, நீ எறும்பினிடத்தில் போய், அதின் வழிகளைப் பார்த்து, ஞானத்தைக் கற்றுக்கொள்.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

அதற்குப் பிரபுவும், தலைவனும், அதிகாரியும் இல்லாதிருந்தும்,

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

கோடைகாலத்தில் தனக்கு ஆகாரத்தைச் சம்பாதித்து, அறுப்புக்காலத்தில் தனக்குத் தானியத்தைச் சேர்த்துவைக்கும்.

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

சோம்பேறியே, நீ எவ்வளவு நேரம் படுத்திருப்பாய்? எப்பொழுது உன் தூக்கத்தைவிட்டு எழுந்திருப்பாய்?

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

இன்னுங் கொஞ்சம் தூங்கட்டும், இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் உறங்கட்டும், இன்னுங் கொஞ்சம் கைமுடக்கிக்கொண்டு நித்திரை செய்யட்டும் என்பாயோ?

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

உன் தரித்திரம் வழிப்போக்கனைப் போலவும், உன் வறுமை ஆயுதமணிந்தவனைப்போலவும் வரும்.

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

பேலியாளின் மனுஷனாகிய ஒரு துன்மார்க்கன் ஆகடியம் பேசித்திரிகிறான்.

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

அவன் தன் கண்களால் சைகைகாட்டி, தன் கால்களால் பேசி, தன் விரல்களால் போதனை செய்கிறான்.

He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

அவன் இருதயத்திலே திரியாவரமுண்டு; இடைவிடாமல் பொல்லாப்பைப் பிணைத்து, வழக்குகளை உண்டுபண்ணுகிறான்.

Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

ஆகையால் சடிதியில் அவனுக்கு ஆபத்து வரும்; சகாயமின்றிச் சடிதியில் நாசமடைவான்.

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

ஆறு காரியங்களைக் கர்த்தர் வெறுக்கிறார், ஏழும் அவருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

அவையாவன: மேட்டிமையான கண், பொய்நாவு, குற்றமற்றவர்களுடைய இரத்தம் சிந்துங்கை,

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

துராலோசனையைப் பிணைக்கும் இருதயம், தீங்கு செய்வதற்கு விரைந்தோடுங்கால்,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

அபத்தம் பேசும் பொய்ச்சாட்சி, சகோதரருக்குள்ளே விரோதத்தை உண்டுபண்ணுதல் ஆகிய இவைகளே.

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

என் மகனே, உன் தகப்பன் கற்பனையைக் காத்துக்கொள்; உன் தாயின் போதகத்தைத் தள்ளாதே.

My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

அவைகளை எப்பொழுதும் உன் இருதயத்திலே அணிந்து, அவைகளை உன் கழுத்திலே கட்டிக்கொள்.

Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

நீ நடக்கும்போது அது உனக்கு வழிகாட்டும்; நீ படுக்கும்போது அது உன்னைக் காப்பாற்றும்; நீ விழிக்கும்போது அது உன்னோடே சம்பாஷிக்கும்.

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

கட்டளையே விளக்கு, வேதமே வெளிச்சம், போதகசிட்சையே ஜீவவழி.

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

அது உன்னைத் துன்மார்க்க ஸ்திரீக்கும், இச்சகம்பேசும் நாவையுடைய பரஸ்திரீக்கும் விலக்கிக் காக்கும்.

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

உன் இருதயத்திலே அவள் அழகை இச்சியாதே; அவள் தன் கண்ணிமைகளினால் உன்னைப் பிடிக்கவிடாதே.

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

வேசியினிமித்தம் ஒரு அப்பத்துணிக்கையையும் இரக்கவேண்டியதாகும்; விபசாரியானவள் அருமையான உயிரை வேட்டையாடுகிறாள்.

For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

தன் வஸ்திரம் வேகாமல் மடியிலே எவனாவது நெருப்பை வைத்துக்கொள்ளக்கூடுமோ?

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

தன் கால் சுடாமல் எவனாவது தழலின்மேல் நடக்கக்கூடுமோ?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

பிறனுடைய மனைவியிடத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பவனும், அப்படியே அவளைத்தொடுகிற எவனும், ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்.

So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

திருடன் தன் பசியை ஆற்றத் திருடினால் ஜனங்கள் அவனை இகழமாட்டார்கள்;

Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

அவன் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டால் ஏழு மடங்கு கொடுத்துத் தீரவேண்டும்; தன் வீட்டிலுள்ள பொருள்களையெல்லாம் கொடுக்கவேண்டியதாகும்.

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

ஸ்திரீயுடனே விபசாரம்பண்ணுகிறவன் மதிகெட்டவன்; அப்படிச் செய்கிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் கெடுத்துப்போடுகிறான்.

But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

வாதையையும் இலச்சையையும் அடைவான்; அவன் நிந்தை ஒழியாது.

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

ஸ்திரீயைப்பற்றிய எரிச்சல் புருஷனுக்கு மூர்க்கத்தை உண்டுபண்ணும்; அவன் பழிவாங்கும் நாளில் தப்பவிடான்.

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

அவன் எந்த ஈட்டையும் பாரான்; அநேகம் வெகுமதிகளைக் கொடுத்தாலும் அமர்ந்திருக்கமாட்டான்.

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

யோவான் அத்தியாயம் 1

ஆதியிலே வார்த்தை இருந்தது, அந்த வார்த்தை தேவனிடத்திலிருந்தது, அந்த வார்த்தை தேவனாயிருந்தது.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

அவர் ஆதியிலே தேவனோடிருந்தார்.

The same was in the beginning with God.

சகலமும் அவர் மூலமாய் உண்டாயிற்று; உண்டானதொன்றும் அவராலேயல்லாமல் உண்டாகவில்லை.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

அவருக்குள் ஜீவன் இருந்தது, அந்த ஜீவன் மனுஷருக்கு ஒளியாயிருந்தது.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

அந்த ஒளி இருளிலே பிரகாசிக்கிறது; இருளானது அதைப் பற்றிக்கொள்ளவில்லை.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

தேவனால் அனுப்பப்பட்ட ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான், அவன் பேர் யோவான்.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

அவன் தன்னால் எல்லாரும் விசுவாசிக்கும்படி அந்த ஒளியைக்குறித்துச் சாட்சிகொடுக்க சாட்சியாக வந்தான்.

The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

அவன் அந்த ஒளியல்ல, அந்த ஒளியைக்குறித்துச் சாட்சிகொடுக்க வந்தவனாயிருந்தான்.

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

உலகத்திலே வந்து எந்த மனுஷனையும் பிரகாசிப்பிக்கிற ஒளியே அந்த மெய்யான ஒளி.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

அவர் உலகத்தில் இருந்தார், உலகம் அவர் மூலமாய் உண்டாயிற்று, உலகமோ அவரை அறியவில்லை.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

அவர் தமக்குச் சொந்தமானதிலே வந்தார், அவருக்குச் சொந்தமானவர்களோ அவரை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை.

He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

அவருடைய நாமத்தின்மேல் விசுவாசமுள்ளவர்களாய் அவரை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டவர்கள் எத்தனை பேர்களோ, அத்தனை பேர்களும் தேவனுடைய பிள்ளைகளாகும்படி, அவர்களுக்கு அதிகாரங்கொடுத்தார்.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

அவர்கள், இரத்தத்தினாலாவது மாம்ச சித்தத்தினாலாவது புருஷனுடைய சித்தத்தினாலாவது பிறவாமல், தேவனாலே பிறந்தவர்கள்.

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

அந்த வார்த்தை மாம்சமாகி, கிருபையினாலும் சத்தியத்தினாலும் நிறைந்தவராய், நமக்குள்ளே வாசம் பண்ணினார்; அவருடைய மகிமையைக் கண்டோம்; அது பிதாவுக்கு ஒரேபேறானவருடைய மகிமைக்கு ஏற்ற மகிமையாகவே இருந்தது.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

யோவான் அவரைக்குறித்துச் சாட்சிகொடுத்து: எனக்குப் பின்வருகிறவர் எனக்கு முன்னிருந்தவர், ஆகையால் அவர் என்னிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவர் என்று நான் சொல்லியிருந்தேனே, அவர் இவர்தான் என்று சத்தமிட்டுக் கூறினான்.

John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

அவருடைய பரிபூரணத்தினால் நாம் எல்லாரும் கிருபையின்மேல் கிருபைபெற்றோம்.

And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

எப்படியெனில் நியாயப்பிரமாணம் மோசேயின் மூலமாய்க் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது, கிருபையும் சத்தியமும் இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் மூலமாய் உண்டாயின.

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

தேவனை ஒருவனும் ஒருக்காலுங் கண்டதில்லை, பிதாவின் மடியிலிருக்கிற ஒரேபேறான குமாரனே அவரை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்.

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

எருசலேமிலிருந்து யூதர்கள் ஆசாரியரையும் லேவியரையும் யோவானிடத்தில் அனுப்பி: நீர் யார் என்று கேட்டபொழுது,

And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

அவன் மறுதலியாமல் அறிக்கையிட்டதுமன்றி, நான் கிறிஸ்து அல்ல என்றும் அறிக்கையிட்டான்.

And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்: பின்னை யார்? நீர் எலியாவா என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு: நான் அவன் அல்ல என்றான். நீர் தீர்க்கதரிசியானவரா என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கும்: அல்ல என்றான்.

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

அவர்கள் பின்னும் அவனை நோக்கி: நீர் யார்? எங்களை அனுப்பினவர்களுக்கு நாங்கள் உத்தரவு சொல்லும்படிக்கு, உம்மைக்குறித்து என்ன சொல்லுகிறீர் என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

அதற்கு அவன்: கர்த்தருக்கு வழியைச் செவ்வைப்பண்ணுங்கள் என்று ஏசாயா தீர்க்கதரிசி சொன்னபடியே, நான் வனாந்தரத்திலே கூப்பிடுகிறவனுடைய சத்தமாயிருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

அனுப்பப்பட்டவர்கள் பரிசேயராயிருந்தார்கள்.

And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

அவர்கள் அவனை நோக்கி: நீர் கிறிஸ்துவுமல்ல, எலியாவுமல்ல, தீர்க்கதரிசியானவருமல்லவென்றால், ஏன் ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்கிறீர் என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

யோவான் அவர்களுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நான் ஜலத்தினாலே ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்கிறேன்; நீங்கள் அறியாதிருக்கிற ஒருவர் உங்கள் நடுவிலே நிற்கிறார்.

John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

அவர் எனக்குப் பின்வந்தும் என்னிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவர்; அவருடைய பாதரட்சையின் வாரை அவிழ்ப்பதற்கும் நான் பாத்திரனல்ல என்றான்.

He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

இவைகள் யோர்தானுக்கு அக்கரையில் யோவான் ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுத்த பெத்தாபராவிலே நடந்தன.

These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

மறுநாளிலே யோவான் இயேசுவைத் தன்னிடத்தில் வரக்கண்டு: இதோ, உலகத்தின் பாவத்தைச் சுமந்துதீர்க்கிற தேவ ஆட்டுக்குட்டி.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

எனக்குப்பின் ஒருவர் வருகிறார், அவர் எனக்கு முன்னிருந்தபடியால் என்னிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவரென்று நான் சொன்னேனே, அவர் இவர்தான்.

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

நானும் இவரை அறியாதிருந்தேன்; இவர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு வெளிப்படும் பொருட்டாக, நான் ஜலத்தினாலே ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்கவந்தேன் என்றான்.

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

பின்னும் யோவான் சாட்சியாகச் சொன்னது: ஆவியானவர் புறாவைப்போல வானத்திலிருந்திறங்கி, இவர்மேல் தங்கினதைக் கண்டேன்.

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

நானும் இவரை அறியாதிருந்தேன்; ஆனாலும் ஜலத்தினால் ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்கும்படி என்னை அனுப்பினவர்: ஆவியானவர் இறங்கி யார்மேல் தங்குவதை நீ காண்பாயோ, அவரே பரிசுத்த ஆவியினால் ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்கிறவர் என்று எனக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்தார்.

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

அந்தப்படியே நான் கண்டு, இவரே தேவனுடைய குமாரன் என்று சாட்சிகொடுத்துவருகிறேன் என்றான்.

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

மறுநாளிலே யோவானும் அவனுடைய சீஷரில் இரண்டுபேரும் நிற்கும்போது,

Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

இயேசு நடந்துபோகிறதை அவன் கண்டு: இதோ, தேவ ஆட்டுக்குட்டி என்றான்.

And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

அவன் அப்படிச் சொன்னதை அவ்விரண்டு சீஷருங்கேட்டு, இயேசுவுக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

இயேசு திரும்பி, அவர்கள் பின் செல்லுகிறதைக் கண்டு: என்ன தேடுகிறீர்கள் என்றார். அதற்கு அவர்கள்: ரபீ, நீர் எங்கே தங்கியிருக்கிறீர் என்று கேட்டார்கள்; ரபீ என்பதற்குப் போதகரே என்று அர்த்தமாம்.

Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

அவர்: வந்து பாருங்கள் என்றார். அவர்கள் வந்து அவர் தங்கியிருந்த இடத்தைக் கண்டு, அன்றையதினம் அவரிடத்தில் தங்கினார்கள். அப்பொழுது ஏறக்குறையப் பத்துமணி வேளையாயிருந்தது.

He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

யோவான் சொன்னதைக் கேட்டு, அவருக்குப் பின்சென்ற இரண்டுபேரில் ஒருவன் சீமோன் பேதுருவின் சகோதரனாகிய அந்திரேயா என்பவன்.

One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

அவன் முதலாவது தன் சகோதரனாகிய சீமோனைக் கண்டு: மேசியாவைக் கண்டோம் என்று சொன்னான்; மேசியா என்பதற்குக் கிறிஸ்து என்று அர்த்தமாம்.

He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

பின்பு, அவனை இயேசுவினிடத்தில் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவந்தான். இயேசு அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ யோனாவின் மகனாகிய சீமோன், நீ கேபா என்னப்படுவாய் என்றார்; கேபா என்பதற்குப் பேதுரு என்று அர்த்தமாம்.

And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

மறுநாளிலே இயேசு கலிலேயாவுக்குப்போக மனதாயிருந்து, பிலிப்புவைக்கண்டு: நீ எனக்குப் பின்சென்று வா என்றார்.

The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

பிலிப்பென்பவன் அந்திரேயா பேதுரு என்பவர்களுடைய ஊராகிய பெத்சாயிதா பட்டணத்தான்.

Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

பிலிப்பு நாத்தான்வேலைக் கண்டு: நியாயப்பிரமாணத்திலே மோசேயும் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளும் எழுதியிருக்கிறவரைக் கண்டோம்; அவர் யோசேப்பின் குமாரனும் நாசரேத்தூரானுமாகிய இயேசுவே என்றான்.

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

அதற்கு நாத்தான்வேல்: நாசரேத்திலிருந்து யாதொரு நன்மை உண்டாகக்கூடுமா என்றான். அதற்குப் பிலிப்பு: வந்து பார் என்றான்.

And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

இயேசு நாத்தான்வேலைத் தம்மிடத்தில் வரக்கண்டு அவனைக்குறித்து: இதோ, கபடற்ற உத்தம இஸ்ரவேலன் என்றார்.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

அதற்கு நாத்தான்வேல்: நீர் என்னை எப்படி அறிவீர் என்றான். இயேசு அவனை நோக்கி: பிலிப்பு உன்னை அழைக்கிறதற்குமுன்னே, நீ அத்திமரத்தின் கீழிருக்கும்போது உன்னைக் கண்டேன் என்றார்.

Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

அதற்கு நாத்தான்வேல்: ரபீ, நீர் தேவனுடைய குமாரன், நீர் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா என்றான்.

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

இயேசு அவனுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: அத்திமரத்தின் கீழே உன்னைக் கண்டேன் என்று நான் உனக்குச் சொன்னதினாலேயா விசுவாசிக்கிறாய்; இதிலும் பெரிதானவைகளைக் காண்பாய் என்றார்.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

பின்னும், அவர் அவனை நோக்கி: வானம் திறந்திருக்கிறதையும், தேவதூதர்கள் மனுஷகுமாரனிடத்திலிருந்து ஏறுகிறதையும் இறங்குகிறதையும் நீங்கள் இதுமுதல் காண்பீர்கள் என்று மெய்யாகவே மெய்யாகவே உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
