எஸ்றா அத்தியாயம் 4

சிறையிருப்பிலிருந்து வந்த ஜனங்கள் இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டுகிறார்கள் என்று யூதாவுக்கும் பென்யமீனுக்கும் இருந்த சத்துருக்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது,

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

அவர்கள் செருபாபேலிடத்துக்கும் தலைவரான பிதாக்களிடத்துக்கும் வந்து: உங்களோடேகூட நாங்களும் கட்டுவோம்; உங்களைப்போல நாங்களும் உங்கள் தேவனை நாடுவோம்; இவ்விடத்துக்கு எங்களை வரப்பண்ணின அசீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய எசரத்தோன் நாட்கள் முதற்கொண்டு அவருக்கு நாங்களும் பலியிட்டுவருகிறோம் என்று அவர்களோடே சொன்னார்கள்.

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

அதற்குச் செருபாபேலும், யெசுவாவும், இஸ்ரவேலில் மற்றுமுள்ள தலைவரான பிதாக்களும் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எங்கள் தேவனுக்கு ஆலயத்தைக்கட்டுகிறதற்கு உங்களுக்கும் எங்களுக்கும் சம்பந்தமில்லை; பெர்சியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கோரேஸ் ராஜா எங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடி. நாங்களே இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு அதைக் கட்டுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

அதினால் அந்த தேசத்து ஜனங்கள் யூதா ஜனத்தின் கைகளைத் தளரப்பண்ணி, கட்டாதபடிக்கு அவர்களைச் சங்கடப்படுத்தி,

Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

பெர்சியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கோரேசின் காலமுழுதும், தரியு என்னும் பெர்சியா ராஜா அரசாண்ட காலமட்டும், அவர்கள் யோசனையை அவத்தமாக்கும்படி அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் ஆலோசனைக்காரருக்கு கைக்கூலி கட்டினார்கள்.

And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

அகாஸ்வேரு அரசாளுகிறபோது, அவனுடைய ராஜ்யபாரத்தின் துவக்கத்திலே, யூதாவிலும் எருசலேமிலும் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாகப் பிரியாது எழுதினார்கள்.

And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

அர்தசஷ்டாவின் நாட்களிலும், பிஸ்லாமும், மித்திரேதாத்தும், தாபெயேலும், மற்றுமுள்ள அவர்கள் வகையராவும், பெர்சியா ராஜாவான அர்தசஷ்டாவுக்கு ஒரு மனு எழுதினார்கள்; அந்த மனு சீரிய எழுத்திலும் சீரியபாஷையிலும் எழுதியிருந்தது.

And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

ஆலோசனைத் தலைவனாகிய ரெகூமும் கணக்கனாகிய சிம்சாவும் எருசலேமுக்கு விரோதமாக அர்தசஷ்டா என்னும் ராஜாவுக்கு எழுதின மனுவிலே கையொப்பம் போட்டவர்கள் யாரென்றால்:

Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:

ஆலோசனைத் தலைவனாகிய ரெகூமும், கணக்கனாகிய சிம்சாயும், மற்றுமுள்ள அவர்கள் வகையராவாகிய தீனாவியர், அபற்சாத்தியர், தர்பேலியர், அப்பார்சியர், அற்கேவியர், பாபிலோனியர், சூஷங்கியர், தெகாவியர், ஏலாமியரானவர்களும்,

Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,

பெரியவரும் பேர்பெற்றவருமான அஸ்னாப்பார் அவ்விடங்களிலிருந்து அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து சமாரியாவின்பட்டணத்திலே குடியேறப்பண்ணின மற்ற ஜனங்களும், நதிக்கு இப்பாலே இருக்கிற மற்ற ஜனங்களுமே.

And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

அவர்கள் அர்தசஷ்டா என்னும் ராஜாவுக்கு அனுப்பின மனுவின் நகலாவது: நதிக்கு இப்புறத்தில் இருக்கிற உமது அடியார் முதலானவர்கள் அறிவிக்கிறது என்னவென்றால்,

This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.

உம்மிடத்திலிருந்து எங்களிடத்திற்கு வந்த யூதர் எருசலேமிலே கூடி, கலகமும் பொல்லாப்புமான அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்கு அஸ்திபாரங்களை இணைத்து, அதின் மதில்களை எழுப்பிக்கட்டுகிறார்கள் என்பது ராஜாவுக்கு அறியலாவதாக.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

இப்போதும் இந்தப் பட்டணம் கட்டப்பட்டு, அலங்கங்கள் எடுப்பிக்கப்பட்டுத் தீர்ந்தால், அவர்கள் பகுதியையும் தீர்வையையும் ஆயத்தையும் கொடுக்கமாட்டார்கள்; அதினால் ராஜாக்களின் வருமானத்திற்கு நஷ்டம் வரும் என்று ராஜாவுக்கு அறியலாவதாக.

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

இப்போதும், நாங்கள் அரமனை உப்புத் தின்கிறபடியினால், ராஜாவுக்குக் குறைவுவரப் பார்த்திருக்கிறது எங்களுக்கு அடாதகாரியம்; ஆகையால் நாங்கள் இதை அனுப்பி, ராஜாவுக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்துகிறோம்.

Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

உம்முடைய பிதாக்களின் நடபடி புஸ்தகங்களில் சோதித்துப்பார்க்க உத்தரவாகவேண்டும்; அப்பொழுது இந்தப் பட்டணம் கலகமும், ராஜாக்களுக்கும் சீமைகளுக்கும் நஷ்டமும் உண்டாக்குகிற பட்டணம் என்றும், பூர்வகாலமுதல் கலாதி உள்ளதாயிருந்தபடியினால் இந்தப் பட்டணம் பாழ்க்கடிக்கப்பட்டது என்றும், அந்த நடபடி புஸ்தகங்களில் கண்டறியலாம்.

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

ஆகையால் இந்தப் பட்டணம் கட்டப்பட்டு, இதின் அலங்கங்கள் எடுப்பிக்கப்பட்டுத் தீர்ந்தால், நதிக்கு இப்புறத்திலே உமக்கு ஒன்றும் இராதேபோகும் என்பதை ராஜாவுக்கு அறியப்படுத்துகிறோம் என்று எழுதி அனுப்பினார்கள்.

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

அப்பொழுது ராஜா ஆலோசனைத் தலைவனாகிய ரெகூமுக்கும், கணக்கனாகிய சிம்சாயிக்கும், சமாரியாவில் குடியிருக்கிற மற்றுமுள்ள அவர்களுடைய வகையராவுக்கும், நதிக்கு அப்புறத்தில் இருக்கிற மற்றவர்களுக்கும் எழுதியனுப்பின பிரதியுத்தரமாவது: உங்களுக்குச் சமாதானம்,

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

நீங்கள் அனுப்பின மனு நமது சமுகத்தில் தீர்க்கமாய் வாசிக்கப்பட்டது.

The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

நம்முடைய உத்தரவினால் சோதித்துப் பார்க்கும்போது, அந்தப் பட்டணம் பூர்வகாலமுதல் ராஜாக்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பினது என்றும், அதிலே கலகமும் ராஜதுரோகமும் காணப்பட்டது என்றும்,

And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

எருசலேமில் வல்லமையுள்ள ராஜாக்கள் இருந்தார்கள் என்றும், அவர்கள் நதிக்கு அப்புறத்தில் இருக்கிற சகல தேசங்களையும் ஆண்டுவந்தார்கள் என்றும், பகுதியும் தீர்வையும் ஆயமும் அவர்களுக்குச் செலுத்தப்பட்டது என்றும் தெரியவருகிறது.

There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

இப்பொழுதும் நம்மிடத்திலிருந்து மறுஉத்தரவு பிறக்கும்வரையும் அந்த மனிதர் அந்தப் பட்டணத்தைக் கட்டாமல் நிறுத்திவிடும்படி கட்டளையிடுங்கள்.

Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

இதிலே நீங்கள் தவறாதபடி எச்சரிக்கையாயிருங்கள்; ராஜாக்களுக்கு நஷ்டமும் சேதமும் வரவேண்டியது என்ன என்று எழுதி அனுப்பினான்.

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

ராஜாவாகிய அர்தசஷ்டாவுடைய உத்தரவின் நகல் ரெகூமுக்கும், கணக்கனாகிய சிம்சாயிக்கும், அவர்கள் வகையராவுக்கு முன்பாக வாசிக்கப்பட்டபோது, அவர்கள் தீவிரத்துடனே எருசலேமிலிருக்கிற யூதரிடத்திற்குப்போய், பலவந்தத்தோடும் கட்டாயத்தோடும் அவர்களை வேலைசெய்யாதபடிக்கு நிறுத்திப்போட்டார்கள்.

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

அப்பொழுது எருசலேமிலுள்ள தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தின் வேலை தடைபட்டு, பெர்சியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய தரியு ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணின இரண்டாம் வருஷமட்டும் நிறுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தது.

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

எஸ்றா அத்தியாயம் 5

அப்பொழுது ஆகாய் தீர்க்கதரிசியும், இத்தோவின் குமாரனாகிய சகரியா என்னும் தீர்க்கதரிசியும், யூதாவிலும் எருசலேமிலுமுள்ள யூதருக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் தேவனின் நாமத்திலே தீர்க்கதரிசனம் சொன்னார்கள்.

Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.

அப்பொழுது செயல்தியேலின் குமாரனாகிய செருபாபேலும் யோசதாக்கின் குமாரனாகிய யெசுவாவும் எழும்பி, எருசலேமிலுள்ள தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டத்தொடங்கினார்கள்; அவர்களுக்குத் திடன் சொல்ல தேவனுடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளும் இருந்தார்கள்.

Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

அக்காலத்திலே நதிக்கு இப்புறத்தில் இருக்கிற நாடுகளுக்கு அதிபதியாகிய தத்னாய் என்பவனும், சேத்தார் பொஸ்னாயும், அவர்கள் வகையராவும் அவர்களிடத்துக்கு வந்து, இந்த ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டவும், இந்த மதிலை எடுப்பிக்கவும் உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டவன் யார் என்று அவர்களைக் கேட்டார்கள்.

At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?

அப்பொழுது அதற்கு ஏற்ற உத்தரவையும், இந்த மாளிகையைக் கட்டுகிற மனிதரின் நாமங்களையும் அவர்களுக்குச் சொன்னோம்.

Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?

ஆனாலும் இந்தச் செய்தி தரியுவினிடத்திற்குப் போய் எட்டுகிறவரைக்கும் இவர்கள் யூதருடைய மூப்பரின் வேலையைத் தடுக்காதபடிக்கு, அவர்களுடைய தேவனின் கண் அவர்கள்மேல் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது; அப்பொழுது இதைக்குறித்து அவர்கள் சொன்ன மறுமொழியைக் கடிதத்தில் எழுதியனுப்பினார்கள்.

But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

நதிக்கு இப்புறத்திலிருக்கிற தத்னாய் என்னும் தேசாதிபதியும், சேத்தார் பொஸ்னாயும், நதிக்கு இப்புறத்திலிருக்கிற அப்பற்சாகியரான அவன் வகையராவும், ராஜாவாகிய தரியுவுக்கு எழுதியனுப்பின கடிதத்தின் நகலாவது:

The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:

ராஜாவாகிய தரியுவுக்குச் சகல சமாதானமும் உண்டாவதாக.

They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.

நாங்கள் யூதர் சீமையிலுள்ள மகா தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்துக்குப் போனோம்; அது பெருங்கற்களால் கட்டப்படுகிறது; மதில்களின்மேல் உத்திரங்கள் பாய்ச்சப்பட்டு, அந்த வேலை துரிசாய் நடந்து, அவர்களுக்குக் கைகூடிவருகிறதென்பது ராஜாவுக்குத் தெரியலாவதாக.

Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.

அப்பொழுது நாங்கள் அவர்கள் மூப்பர்களை நோக்கி: இந்த ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டவும், இந்த மதிலை எடுப்பிக்கவும் உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டது யார் என்று கேட்டோம்.

Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?

இதுவுமல்லாமல், அவர்களுக்குள்ளே தலைவரான மனிதர் இன்னாரென்று உமக்கு எழுதி அறியப்படுத்தும்படி, அவர்கள் நாமங்கள் என்னவென்றும் கேட்டோம்.

We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

அவர்கள் எங்களுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நாங்கள் பரலோகத்துக்கும் பூலோகத்துக்கும் தேவனாயிருக்கிறவருக்கு அடியாராயிருந்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் பெரிய ராஜா ஒருவன் அநேக வருஷங்களுக்குமுன்னே கட்டித்தீர்த்த இந்த ஆலயத்தை நாங்கள் மறுபடியும் கட்டுகிறோம்.

And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.

எங்கள் பிதாக்கள் பரலோகத்தின் தேவனுக்குக் கோபமூட்டினபடியினால், அவர் இவர்களைப் பாபிலோன் ராஜாவாகிய நேபுகாத்நேச்சார் என்னும் கல்தேயன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; அவன் இந்த ஆலயத்தை நிர்மூலமாக்கி, ஜனத்தைப் பாபிலோனுக்குக் கொண்டுபோனான்.

But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

ஆனாலும் பாபிலோன் ராஜாவாகிய கோரேசின் முதலாம் வருஷத்திலே கோரேஸ் ராஜாவானவர் தேவனுடைய இந்த ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டும்படி கட்டளையிட்டார்.

But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.

நேபுகாத்நேச்சார் எருசலேமிலிருந்த தேவாலயத்திலிருந்து எடுத்து, பாபிலோன் கோவிலில் கொண்டுபோய் வைத்திருந்த தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தின் பொன் வெள்ளிப் பணிமுட்டுகளையும் ராஜாவாகிய கோரேஸ் பாபிலோன் கோவிலிலிருந்து எடுத்து. அவர் தேசாதிபதியாக நியமித்த செஸ்பாத்சாரென்னும் நாமமுள்ளவனிடத்தில் அவைகளை ஒப்புவித்து,

And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இந்தப் பணிமுட்டுகளை எடுத்து, எருசலேமிலிருக்கும் தேவாலயத்துக்குக் கொண்டுபோ; தேவனுடைய ஆலயம் அதின் ஸ்தானத்திலே கட்டப்படவேண்டும் என்றார்.

And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

அப்பொழுது அந்தச் செஸ்பாத்சார் வந்து, எருசலேமிலுள்ள தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தின் அஸ்திபாரத்தைப் போட்டான்; அந்நாள்முதல் இது வரைக்கும் அது கட்டப்பட்டு வருகிறது; அது இன்னும் முடியவில்லை என்றார்கள்.

Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.

இப்பொழுதும் ராஜாவுக்குச் சித்தமாயிருந்தால், எருசலேமிலுள்ள தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தைக் கட்ட, ராஜாவாகிய கோரேஸ் கட்டளையிட்டதுண்டோ என்று பாபிலோனில் இருக்கிற ராஜாவின் கஜானாவிலே ஆராய்ந்து பார்க்கவும், இந்த விஷயத்தில் ராஜாவினுடைய சித்தம் இன்னதென்று எங்களுக்கு எழுதியனுப்பவும் உத்தரவாகவேண்டும் என்று எழுதியனுப்பினார்கள்.

Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

மத்தேயு அத்தியாயம் 11

இயேசு தம்முடைய பன்னிரண்டு சீஷர்களுக்கும் கட்டளைகொடுத்து முடித்தபின்பு, அவர்களுடைய பட்டணங்களில் உபதேசிக்கவும் பிரசங்கிக்கவும் அவ்விடம் விட்டுப்போனார்.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

அத்தருணத்தில் காவலிலிருந்த யோவான் கிறிஸ்துவின் கிரியைகளைக்குறித்துக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, தன் சீஷரில் இரண்டுபேரை அழைத்து:

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

வருகிறவர் நீர்தானா, அல்லது வேறொருவர் வரக்காத்திருக்கவேண்டுமா? என்று அவரிடத்தில் கேட்கும்படி அனுப்பினான்.

And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

இயேசு அவர்களுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நீங்கள் கேட்கிறதையும் காண்கிறதையும் யோவானிடத்தில் போய் அறிவியுங்கள்;

Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

குருடர் பார்வையடைகிறார்கள், சப்பாணிகள் நடக்கிறார்கள், குஷ்டரோகிகள் சுத்தமாகிறார்கள், செவிடர் கேட்கிறார்கள், மரித்தோர் எழுந்திருக்கிறார்கள், தரித்திரருக்குச் சுவிசேஷம் பிரசங்கிக்கப்படுகிறது.

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

என்னிடத்தில் இடறலடையாதிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ அவன் பாக்கியவான் என்றார்.

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

அவர்கள் போனபின்பு, இயேசு யோவானைக்குறித்து ஜனங்களுக்குச் சொன்னது என்னவென்றால்: எதைப் பார்க்க வனாந்தரத்திற்குப் போனீர்கள்? காற்றினால் அசையும் நாணலையோ?

And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

அல்லவென்றால், எதைப் பார்க்கப்போனீர்கள்? மெல்லிய வஸ்திரந்தரித்த மனுஷனையோ? மெல்லிய வஸ்திரந்தரித்திருக்கிறவர்கள் அரசர் மாளிகைகளில் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

அல்லவென்றால், எதைப் பார்க்கப்போனீர்கள்? தீர்க்கதரிசியையோ? ஆம், தீர்க்கதரிசியைப்பார்க்கிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவனையே என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

அதெப்படியெனில்: இதோ, நான் என் தூதனை உமக்கு முன்பாக அனுப்புகிறேன்; அவன் உமக்கு முன்னே போய், உமது வழியை ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுவான் என்று எழுதிய வாக்கியத்தால் குறிக்கப்பட்டவன் இவன்தான்.

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

ஸ்திரீகளிடத்திலே பிறந்தவர்களில் யோவானஸ்நானனைப்பார்க்கிலும் பெரியவன் ஒருவனும் எழும்பினதில்லை; ஆகிலும், பரலோகராஜ்யத்தில் சிறியவனாயிருக்கிறவன் அவனிலும் பெரியவனாயிருக்கிறானென்று உங்களுக்கு மெய்யாகவே சொல்லுகிறேன்.

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

யோவான்ஸ்நானன் காலமுதல் இதுவரைக்கும் பரலோகராஜ்யம் பலவந்தம்பண்ணப்படுகிறது; பலவந்தம்பண்ணுகிறவர்கள் அதைப் பிடித்துக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

நியாயப்பிரமாணமும் தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் யாவரும் யோவான்வரைக்கும் தீர்க்கதரிசனம் உரைத்ததுண்டு.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

நீங்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மனதாயிருந்தால், வருகிறவனாகிய எலியா இவன்தான்.

And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

கேட்கிறதற்குக் காதுள்ளவன் கேட்கக்கடவன்.

He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

இந்தச் சந்ததியை யாருக்கு ஒப்பிடுவேன்? சந்தைவெளிகளில் உட்கார்ந்து, தங்கள் தோழரைப் பார்த்து:

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,

உங்களுக்காகக் குழல் ஊதினோம், நீங்கள் கூத்தாடவில்லை; உங்களுக்காகப் புலம்பினோம், நீங்கள் மாரடிக்கவில்லை என்று குறைசொல்லுகிற பிள்ளைகளுக்கு ஒப்பாயிருக்கிறது.

And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

எப்படியெனில், யோவான் போஜனபானம்பண்ணாதவனாய் வந்தான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அவன் பிசாசுபிடித்திருக்கிறவன் என்றார்கள்.

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

மனுஷகுமாரன் போஜனபானம்பண்ணுகிறவராய் வந்தார்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: இதோ, போஜனப்பிரியனும் மதுபானப்பிரியனுமான மனுஷன், ஆயக்காரருக்கும் பாவிகளுக்கும் சிநேகிதன் என்கிறார்கள். ஆனாலும், ஞானமானது அதன் பிள்ளைகளால் நீதியுள்ளதென்று ஒப்புக்கொள்ளப்படும் என்றார்.

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

அப்பொழுது, தமது பலத்தசெய்கைகளில், அதிகமானவைகளைச் செய்யக்கண்ட பட்டணங்கள் மனந்திரும்பாமற்போனபடியினால் அவைகளை அவர் கடிந்துகொள்ளத் தொடங்கினார்:

Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

கோராசினே! உனக்கு ஐயோ, பெத்சாயிதாவே! உனக்கு ஐயோ, உங்களில் செய்யப்பட்ட பலத்த செய்கைகள் தீருவிலும் சீதோனிலும் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததானால், அப்பொழுதே இரட்டுடுத்திச் சாம்பலில் உட்கார்ந்து மனந்திரும்பியிருப்பார்கள்.

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

நியாயத்தீர்ப்புநாளிலே உங்களுக்கு நேரிடுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், தீருவுக்கும் சீதோனுக்கும் நேரிடுவது இலகுவாயிருக்கும் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

வானபரியந்தம் உயர்த்தப்பட்ட கப்பர்நகூமே, நீ பாதாளபரியந்தம் தாழ்த்தப்படுவாய்; உன்னில் செய்யப்பட்ட பலத்த செய்கைகள் சோதோமிலே செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததானால், அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் நிலைத்திருக்கும்.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

நியாயத்தீர்ப்புநாளிலே உனக்கு நேரிடுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், சோதோம் நாட்டிற்கு நேரிடுவது இலகுவாயிருக்கும் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

அந்தச் சமயத்திலே இயேசு சொன்னது: பிதாவே! வானத்துக்கும் பூமிக்கும் ஆண்டவரே! இவைகளை ஞானிகளுக்கும் கல்விமான்களுக்கும் மறைத்து, பாலகருக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினபடியால் உம்மை ஸ்தோத்திரிக்கிறேன்.

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

ஆம், பிதாவே! இப்படிச் செய்வது உம்முடைய திருவுளத்துக்குப் பிரியமாயிருந்தது.

Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.

சகலமும் என் பிதாவினால் எனக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது; பிதா தவிர வேறொருவனும் குமாரனை அறியான்; குமாரனும், குமாரன் எவனுக்கு அவரை வெளிப்படுத்தச் சித்தமாயிருக்கிறாரோ அவனும் தவிர, வேறொருவனும் பிதாவை அறியான்.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

வருத்தப்பட்டுப் பாரஞ்சுமக்கிறவர்களே! நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் என்னிடத்தில் வாருங்கள்; நான் உங்களுக்கு இளைப்பாறுதல் தருவேன்.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

நான் சாந்தமும் மனத்தாழ்மையுமாய் இருக்கிறேன்; என் நுகத்தை உங்கள்மேல் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, என்னிடத்தில் கற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; அப்பொழுது உங்கள் ஆத்துமாக்களுக்கு இளைப்பாறுதல் கிடைக்கும்.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

என் நுகம் மெதுவாயும், என் சுமை இலகுவாயும் இருக்கிறது என்றார்.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
