சீரிய ராஜாவின் படைத்தலைவனாகிய நாகமான் என்பவன் தன் ஆண்டவனிடத்தில் பெரிய மனுஷனும் எண்ணிக்கையுள்ளவனுமாயிருந்தான்; அவனைக் கொண்டு கர்த்தர் சீரியாவுக்கு இரட்சிப்பைக் கட்டளையிட்டார்; மகா பராக்கிரமசாலியாகிய அவனோ குஷ்டரோகியாயிருந்தான்.

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

சீரியாவிலிருந்து தண்டுகள் புறப்பட்டு, இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்திலிருந்து ஒரு சிறுபெண்ணைச் சிறைபிடித்துக்கொண்டு வந்திருந்தார்கள்; அவள் நாகமானின் மனைவிக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்துகொண்டிருந்தாள்.

And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.

அவள் தன் நாச்சியாரைப் பார்த்து: என் ஆண்டவன் சமாரியாவிலிருக்கிற தீர்க்கதரிசியினிடத்தில் போவாரானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; அவர் இவருடைய குஷ்டரோகத்தை நீக்கிவிடுவார் என்றாள்.

And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

அப்பொழுது அவன் போய், இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்துப் பெண் இன்ன இன்ன பிரகாரமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிறாள் என்று தன் ஆண்டவனிடத்தில் அறிவித்தான்.

And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

அப்பொழுது சீரியாவின் ராஜா: நல்லது போகலாம், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு நிருபம் தருகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவன் தன் கையிலே பத்துத்தாலந்து வெள்ளியையும், ஆறாயிரம் சேக்கல் நிறைபொன்னையும், பத்து மாற்றுவஸ்திரங்களையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்,

And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவிடத்தில் அந்த நிருபத்தைக் கொடுத்தான். அதிலே: இந்த நிருபத்தை உம்மிடத்தில் என் ஊழியக்காரனாகிய நாகமான் கொண்டுவருவான்; நீர் அவன் குஷ்டரோகத்தை நீக்கிவிட அவனை உம்மிடத்தில் அனுப்பியிருக்கிறேன் என்று எழுதியிருந்தது.

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அந்த நிருபத்தை வாசித்தபோது, அவன் தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு: ஒரு மனுஷனை அவன் குஷ்டரோகத்தினின்று நீக்கிவிடவேண்டும் என்று, அவன் என்னிடத்தில் நிருபம் அனுப்புகிறதற்கு, கொல்லவும் உயிர்ப்பிக்கவும் நான் தேவனா? இவன் என்னை விரோதிக்க சமயம் தேடுகிறான் என்பதைச் சிந்தித்துப்பாருங்கள் என்றான்.

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்ட செய்தியை தேவனுடைய மனுஷனாகிய எலிசா கேட்டபோது, அவன்: நீர் உம்முடைய வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொள்வானேன்? அவன் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலிலே தீர்க்கதரிசி உண்டென்பதை அறிந்துகொள்ளட்டும் என்று ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினான்.

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

அப்படியே நாகமான் தன் குதிரைகளோடும் தன் இரதத்தோடும் வந்து எலிசாவின் வாசற்படியிலே நின்றான்.

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

அப்பொழுது எலிசா: அவனிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி, நீ போய், யோர்தானில் ஏழுதரம் ஸ்நானம்பண்ணு; அப்பொழுது உன் மாம்சம் மாறி, நீ சுத்தமாவாய் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

அதற்கு நாகமான் கடுங்கோபங்கொண்டு, புறப்பட்டுப்போய்: அவன் வெளியே வந்து நின்று, தன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தைத் தொழுது, தன் கையினால் அந்த இடத்தைத் தடவி, இவ்விதமாய்க் குஷ்டரோகத்தை நீக்கிவிடுவான் என்று எனக்குள் நினைத்திருந்தேன்.

But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

நான் ஸ்நானம்பண்ணிச் சுத்தமாகிறதற்கு இஸ்ரவேலின் தண்ணீர்கள் எல்லாவற்றைப்பார்க்கிலும் தமஸ்குவின் நதிகளாகிய ஆப்னாவும் பர்பாரும் நல்லதல்லவோ என்று சொல்லி, உக்கிரத்தோடே திரும்பிப்போனான்.

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

அவன் ஊழியக்காரர் சமீபத்தில் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: தகப்பனே, அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒரு பெரிய காரியத்தைச் செய்ய உமக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்தால் அதை நீர் செய்வீர் அல்லவா? ஸ்நானம்பண்ணும், அப்பொழுது சுத்தமாவீர் என்று அவர் உம்மோடே சொல்லும்போது, அதைச் செய்யவேண்டியது எத்தனை அதிகம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

அப்பொழுது அவன் இறங்கி, தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் வார்த்தையின்படியே யோர்தானில் ஏழுதரம் முழுகினபோது, அவன் மாம்சம் ஒரு சிறுபிள்ளையின் மாம்சத்தைப்போல மாறி, அவன் சுத்தமானான்.

Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் கூட்டத்தோடெல்லாம் தேவனுடைய மனுஷனிடத்துக்குத் திரும்பிவந்து, அவனுக்கு முன்பாக நின்று: இதோ, இஸ்ரவேலிலிருக்கிற தேவனைத்தவிர பூமியெங்கும் வேறே தேவன் இல்லை என்பதை அறிந்தேன்; இப்போதும் உமது அடியேன் கையில் ஒரு காணிக்கை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்றான்.

And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

அதற்கு அவன்: நான் வாங்குகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக அவருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; வாங்கவேண்டும் என்று அவனை வருந்தினாலும் தட்டுதல் பண்ணிவிட்டான்.

But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

அப்பொழுது நாகமான்: ஆனாலும் இரண்டு கோவேறு கழுதைகள் சுமக்கத்தக்க இரண்டு பொதி மண் உமது அடியேனுக்குக் கட்டளையிடவேண்டும்; உமது அடியேன் இனிக் கர்த்தருக்கே அல்லாமல், அந்நிய தேவர்களுக்குச் சர்வாங்க தகனத்தையும் பலியையும் செலுத்துவதில்லை.

And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.

ஒரு காரியத்தையே கர்த்தர் உமது அடியேனுக்கு மன்னிப்பாராக; என் ஆண்டவன் பணிந்துகொள்ள ரிம்மோன் கோவிலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது, நான் அவருக்குக் கைலாகு கொடுத்து ரிம்மோன் கோவிலிலே பணியவேண்டியதாகும்; இப்படி ரிம்மோன் கோவிலில் நான் பணியவேண்டிய இந்தக் காரியத்தைக் கர்த்தர் உமது அடியேனுக்கு மன்னிப்பாராக என்றான்.

In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.

அதற்கு அவன்: சமாதானத்தோடே போ என்றான்; இவன் புறப்பட்டுக் கொஞ்சதூரம் போனபோது,

And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

தேவனுடைய மனுஷனாகிய எலிசாவின் வேலைக்காரன் கேயாசி என்பவன், அந்தச் சீரியனாகிய நாகமான் கொண்டுவந்ததை என் ஆண்டவன் அவன் கையிலே வாங்காமல் அவனை விட்டுவிட்டார்; நான் அவன் பிறகே ஓடி, அவன் கையிலே ஏதாகிலும் வாங்குவேன் என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவன்மேல் ஆணையிட்டு,

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

நாகமானைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தான்; அவன் தன் பிறகே ஓடிவருகிறதை நாகமான் கண்டபோது, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோக இரதத்திலிருந்து குதித்து: சுகசெய்தியா என்று கேட்டான்.

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

அதற்கு அவன்: சுகசெய்திதான்; தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரரில் இரண்டு வாலிபர் இப்பொழுதுதான் எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்திலிருந்து என்னிடத்தில் வந்தார்கள்; அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு தாலந்து வெள்ளியையும், இரண்டு மாற்றுவஸ்திரங்களையும் தரவேண்டும் என்று கேட்க, என் எஜமான் என்னை அனுப்பினார் என்றான்.

And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

அதற்கு நாகமான்: தயவுசெய்து, இரண்டு தாலந்தை வாங்கிக்கொள் என்று சொல்லி, அவனை வருந்தி, இரண்டு தாலந்து வெள்ளியை இரண்டு பைகளில் இரண்டு மாற்றுவஸ்திரங்களோடே கட்டி, அவனுக்கு முன்பாகச் சுமந்துபோக, தன் வேலைக்காரரான இரண்டுபேர்மேல் வைத்தான்.

And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.

அவன் மேட்டண்டைக்கு வந்தபோது, அவன் அதை அவர்கள் கையிலிருந்து வாங்கி, வீட்டிலே வைத்து, அந்த மனுஷரை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் போய்விட்டார்கள்.

And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

பின்பு அவன் உள்ளேபோய்த் தன் எஜமானுக்கு முன்பாக நின்றான்; கேயாசியே, எங்கேயிருந்து வந்தாய் என்று எலிசா அவனைக் கேட்டதற்கு, அவன்: உமது அடியான் எங்கும் போகவில்லை என்றான்.

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.

அப்பொழுது அவன் இவனைப்பார்த்து: அந்த மனுஷன் உனக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுவர தன் இரதத்திலிருந்து இறங்கித் திரும்புகிறபோது என் மனம் உன்னுடன்கூடச் செல்லவில்லையா? பணத்தை வாங்குகிறதற்கும், வஸ்திரங்களையும் ஒலிவத்தோப்புகளையும் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் வேலைக்காரரையும் வேலைக்காரிகளையும் வாங்குகிறதற்கும் இது காலமா?

And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

ஆகையால் நாகமானின் குஷ்டரோகம் உன்னையும் உன் சந்ததியாரையும் என்றைக்கும் பிடித்திருக்கும் என்றான்; உடனே அவன் உறைந்த மழை நிறமான குஷ்டரோகியாகி, அவன் சமுகத்தை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, நாங்கள் உம்முடன் குடியிருக்கிற இந்த இடம் எங்களுக்கு நெருக்கமாய் இருக்கிறது.

And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

நாங்கள் யோர்தான்மட்டும்போய் அவ்விடத்தில் ஒவ்வொருவர் ஒவ்வொரு உத்திரத்தை வெட்டி, குடியிருக்க அங்கே எங்களுக்கு ஒரு இடத்தை உண்டாக்குவோம் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: போங்கள் என்றான்.

Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

அவர்களில் ஒருவன்: நீர் தயவுசெய்து உமது அடியாரோடேகூட வரவேண்டும் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் வருகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

அவர்களோடேகூடப் போனான்; அவர்கள் யோர்தான் நதியருகே வந்தபோது மரங்களை வெட்டினார்கள்.

So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

ஒருவன் ஒரு உத்திரத்தை வெட்டி விழுத்துகையில் கோடரி தண்ணீரில் விழுந்தது; அவன்: ஐயோ என் ஆண்டவனே, அது இரவலாக வாங்கப்பட்டதே என்று கூவினான்.

But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் அது எங்கே விழுந்தது என்று கேட்டான்; அவன் அந்த இடத்தைக் காண்பித்தபோது, ஒரு கொம்பை வெட்டி, அதை அங்கே எறிந்து, அந்த இரும்பை மிதக்கப்பண்ணி,

And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

அதை எடுத்துக்கொள் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவன் தன் கையை நீட்டி அதை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

அக்காலத்தில் சீரியாவின் ராஜா இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாய் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, இன்ன இன்ன ஸ்தலத்திலே பாளயமிறங்குவேன் என்று தன் ஊழியக்காரரோடே ஆலோசனைபண்ணினான்.

Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

ஆகிலும் தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி: இன்ன இடத்துக்குப் போகாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரும்; சீரியர் அங்கே இறங்குவார்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் தன்னை எச்சரித்து, தனக்குக் குறித்துச்சொன்ன ஸ்தலத்திற்கு மனுஷரை அனுப்பிப்பார்த்து எச்சரிக்கையாயிருந்து, இப்படி அநேகந்தரம் தன்னைக் காத்துக்கொண்டான்.

And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

இந்தக் காரியத்தினிமித்தம் சீரிய ராஜாவின் இருதயம் குழம்பி, அவன் தன் ஊழியக்காரரை அழைத்து: நம்முடையவர்களில் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு உளவாயிருக்கிறவன் யார் என்று நீங்கள் எனக்கு அறிவிக்கமாட்டீர்களா என்று கேட்டான்.

Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

அப்பொழுது அவன் ஊழியக்காரரில் ஒருவன்: அப்படியில்லை; என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவே, நீர் உம்முடைய பள்ளி அறையிலே பேசுகிற வார்த்தைகளையும் இஸ்ரவேலிலிருக்கிற தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய எலிசா இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவிப்பான் என்றான்.

And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

அப்பொழுது அவன்: நான் மனுஷரை அனுப்பி அவனைப் பிடிக்கும்படி, நீங்கள் போய் அவன் எங்கே இருக்கிறான் என்று பாருங்கள் என்றான்; அவன் தோத்தானில் இருக்கிறான் என்று அவனுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

அப்பொழுது அவன் அங்கே குதிரைகளையும் இரதங்களையும் பலத்த இராணுவத்தையும் அனுப்பினான்; அவர்கள் இராக்காலத்திலே வந்து பட்டணத்தை வளைந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

தேவனுடைய மனுஷனின் வேலைக்காரன் அதிகாலமே எழுந்து வெளியே புறப்படுகையில், இதோ, இராணுவமும் குதிரைகளும் இரதங்களும் பட்டணத்தைச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கக் கண்டான்; அப்பொழுது வேலைக்காரன் அவனை நோக்கி: ஐயோ, என் ஆண்டவனே, என்னசெய்வோம் என்றான்.

And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

அதற்கு அவன்: பயப்படாதே; அவர்களோடிருக்கிறவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் நம்மோடிருக்கிறவர்கள் அதிகம் என்றான்.

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

அப்பொழுது எலிசா விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: கர்த்தாவே, இவன் பார்க்கும்படி இவன் கண்களைத் திறந்தருளும் என்றான்; உடனே கர்த்தர் அந்த வேலைக்காரன் கண்களைத் திறந்தார்; இதோ, எலிசாவைச்சுற்றிலும் அக்கினிமயமான குதிரைகளாலும் இரதங்களாலும் அந்த மலை நிறைந்திருக்கிறதை அவன் கண்டான்.

And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

அவர்கள் அவனிடத்தில் வருகையில், எலிசா கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: இந்த ஜனங்களுக்குக் கண்மயக்கம் உண்டாகும்படி செய்யும் என்றான்; எலிசாவுடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே அவர்களுக்குக் கண்மயக்கம் உண்டாகும்படி செய்தார்.

And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

அப்பொழுது எலிசா அவர்களை நோக்கி: இது வழி அல்ல; இது பட்டணமும் அல்ல; என் பிறகே வாருங்கள்; நீங்கள் தேடுகிற மனுஷனிடத்தில் நான் உங்களை வழிநடத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களைச் சமாரியாவுக்கு அழைத்துக் கொண்டுபோனான்.

And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

அவர்கள் சமாரியாவில் வந்தபோது, எலிசா: கர்த்தாவே, இவர்கள் பார்க்கும்படிக்கு இவர்கள் கண்களைத் திறந்தருளும் என்றான்; பார்க்கும்படிக்குக் கர்த்தர் அவர்கள் கண்களைத் திறக்கும்போது, இதோ, இவர்கள் சமாரியாவின் நடுவே இருந்தார்கள்.

And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவர்களைக் கண்டபோது, எலிசாவைப் பார்த்து: என் தகப்பனே, நான் அவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடலாமா என்று கேட்டான்.

And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

அப்பொழுது அவர்களுக்குப் பெரிய விருந்துபண்ணி, அவர்கள் புசித்துக்குடித்தபின்பு, அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் ஆண்டவனிடத்துக்குப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; சீரியரின் தண்டுகள் இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்திலே அப்புறம் வரவில்லை.

And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

இதற்குப்பின்பு சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத் தன் இராணுவத்தையெல்லாம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவந்து சமாரியாவை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டான்.

And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

அதினால் சமாரியாவிலே கொடிய பஞ்சமுண்டாயிற்று; ஒரு கழுதைத் தலை எண்பது வெள்ளிக்காசுக்கும், புறாக்களுக்குப் போடுகிற காற்படி பயறு ஐந்து வெள்ளிக்காசுக்கும் விற்கப்படுமட்டும் அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டார்கள்.

And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அலங்கத்தின்மேல் நடந்துபோகையில், ஒரு ஸ்திரீ அவனைப்பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, இரட்சியும் என்றாள்.

And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

அதற்கு அவன்: கர்த்தர் உன்னை இரட்சிக்காதிருந்தால் நான் எதிலிருந்து எடுத்து உன்னை இரட்சிக்கலாம்? களஞ்சியத்திலிருந்தா, ஆலையிலிருந்தா என்று சொல்லி,

And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

ராஜா பின்னையும் அவளைப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு என்னவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவள்: இந்த ஸ்திரீ என்னை நோக்கி: உன் மகனைத் தா, அவனை இன்று தின்போம்; நாளைக்கு என் மகனைத் தின்போம் என்றாள்.

And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

அப்படியே என் மகனை ஆக்கித் தின்றோம்; மறுநாளில் நான் இவளை நோக்கி: நாம் உன் மகனைத் தின்ன அவனைத் தா என்றேன்; அவள் தன் மகனை ஒளித்து விட்டாள் என்றாள்.

So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

அந்த ஸ்திரீயின் வார்த்தைகளை ராஜா கேட்டவுடனே, அலங்கத்தின்மேல் நடந்துபோகிற அவன் தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டான்; அவன் உள்ளே தன் சரீரத்தின்மேல் இரட்டு உடுத்தியிருக்கிறதை ஜனங்கள் கண்டார்கள்.

And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

அவன்: சாப்பாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய எலிசாவின் தலை இன்றைக்கு அவன்மேல் இருந்தால், தேவன் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று சொன்னான்.

Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

எலிசா தன் வீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; மூப்பரும் அவனோடு உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது ராஜா: ஒரு மனுஷனைத் தனக்கு முன்னே அனுப்பினான்; இந்த ஆள் எலிசாவினிடத்துக்கு வருமுன்னே, அவன் அந்த மூப்பரை நோக்கி: என் தலையை வாங்க, அந்தக் கொலைபாதகனுடைய மகன் ஆள் அனுப்பினான்; பார்த்தீர்களா? அந்த ஆள் வரும்போது, நீங்கள் அவனை உள்ளே வரவொட்டாமல் கதவைப் பூட்டிப்போடுங்கள்; அவனுக்குப் பின்னாக அவன் ஆண்டவனுடைய காலின் சத்தம் கேட்கிறது அல்லவா என்றான்.

But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

1தீமோத்தேயு அத்தியாயம் 1

நம்முடைய இரட்சகராயிருக்கிற தேவனும், நம்முடைய நம்பிக்கையாயிருக்கிற கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவும் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே, இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் அப்போஸ்தலனாயிருக்கிற பவுல்,

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

விசுவாசத்தில் உத்தம குமாரனாகிய தீமோத்தேயுவுக்கு எழுதுகிறதாவது: நம்முடைய பிதாவாகிய தேவனாலும் நம்முடைய கர்த்தராகிய கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவினாலும் கிருபையும் இரக்கமும் சமாதானமும் உண்டாவதாக.

Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

வேற்றுமையான உபதேசங்களைப் போதியாதபடிக்கும், விசுவாசத்தினால் விளங்கும் தெய்வீக பக்திவிருத்திக்கு ஏதுவாயிராமல், தர்க்கங்களுக்கு ஏதுவாயிருக்கிற கட்டுக்கதைகளையும் முடிவில்லாத வம்சவரலாறுகளையும் கவனியாதபடிக்கும், நீ சிலருக்குக் கட்டளையிடும்பொருட்டாக,

As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

நான் மக்கெதோனியாவுக்குப் போகும்போது, உன்னை எபேசு பட்டணத்திலிருக்க வேண்டிக்கொண்டபடியே செய்வாயாக.

Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

கற்பனையின் பொருள் என்னவெனில், சுத்தமான இருதயத்திலும் நல்மனச்சாட்சியிலும் மாயமற்ற விசுவாசத்திலும் பிறக்கும் அன்பே.

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

இவைகளைச் சிலர் நோக்காமல் வீண்பேச்சுக்கு இடங்கொடுத்து விலகிப்போனார்கள்.

From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

தாங்கள் சொல்லுகிறது இன்னதென்றும், தாங்கள் சாதிக்கிறது இன்னதென்றும் அறியாதிருந்தும், நியாயப்பிரமாண போதகராயிருக்க விரும்புகிறார்கள்.

Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

ஒருவன் நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தை நியாயப்படி அநுசரித்தால், நியாயப்பிரமாணம் நல்லதென்று அறிந்திருக்கிறோம்.

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

எங்களுக்குத் தெரிந்திருக்கிறபடி, நியாயப்பிரமாணம் நீதிமானுக்கு விதிக்கப்படாமல், அக்கிரமக்காரருக்கும், அடங்காதவர்களுக்கும், பக்தியில்லாதவர்களுக்கும், பாவிகளுக்கும், அசுத்தருக்கும், சீர்கெட்டவர்களுக்கும், தாய் தகப்பன்மாரை அடிக்கிறவர்களுக்கும், கொலைபாதகருக்கும்,

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

வேசிக்கள்ளருக்கும், ஆண்புணர்ச்சிக்காரருக்கும், மனுஷரைத் திருடுகிறவர்களுக்கும், பொய்யருக்கும், பொய்யாணை இடுகிறவர்களுக்கும்,

For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

நித்தியானந்த தேவனுடைய மகிமையான சுவிசேஷத்தின்படி எனக்கு ஒப்புவிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிற ஆரோக்கியமான உபதேசத்திற்கு எதிரிடையாயிருக்கிற மற்றெந்தச் செய்கைக்கும் விரோதமாய் விதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

என்னைப் பலப்படுத்துகிற நம்முடைய கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுகிறிஸ்து என்னை உண்மையுள்ளவனென்றெண்ணி, இந்த ஊழியத்திற்கு ஏற்படுத்தினபடியால், அவரை ஸ்தோத்திரிக்கிறேன்.

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

முன்னே நான் தூஷிக்கிறவனும், துன்பப்படுத்துகிறவனும், கொடுமை செய்கிறவனுமாயிருந்தேன்; அப்படியிருந்தும், நான் அறியாமல் அவிசுவாசத்தினாலே அப்படிச் செய்தபடியினால் இரக்கம்பெற்றேன்.

Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

நம்முடைய கர்த்தரின் கிருபை கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின்மேலுள்ள விசுவாசத்தோடும் அன்போடுங்கூட என்னிடத்தில் பரிபூரணமாய்ப் பெருகிற்று.

And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

பாவிகளை இரட்சிக்க கிறிஸ்து இயேசு உலகத்தில் வந்தார் என்கிற வார்த்தை உண்மையும் எல்லா அங்கிகரிப்புக்கும் பாத்திரமுமானது; அவர்களில் பிரதான பாவி நான்.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

அப்படியிருந்தும், நித்திய ஜீவனை அடையும்படி இனிமேல் இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவினிடத்தில் விசுவாசமாயிருப்பவர்களுக்குத் திருஷ்டாந்தம் உண்டாகும்பொருட்டுப் பிரதான பாவியாகிய என்னிடத்தில் அவர் எல்லா நீடிய பொறுமையையும் காண்பிக்கும்படிக்கு இரக்கம்பெற்றேன்.

Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

நித்தியமும் அழிவில்லாமையும் அதரிசனமுமுள்ள ராஜனுமாய், தாம் ஒருவரே ஞானமுள்ள தேவனுமாயிருக்கிறவருக்கு, கனமும் மகிமையும் சதாகாலங்களிலும் உண்டாயிருப்பதாக. ஆமென்.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

குமாரனாகிய தீமோத்தேயுவே, உன்னைக்குறித்து முன் உண்டான தீர்க்கதரிசனங்களின்படியே, நீ அவைகளை முன்னிட்டு நல்ல போராட்டம்பண்ணும்படி, இந்தக் கட்டளையை உனக்கு ஒப்புவிக்கிறேன்; நீ விசுவாசமும் நல்மனச்சாட்சியும் உடையவனாயிரு.

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

இந்த நல்மனச்சாட்சியைச் சிலர் தள்ளிவிட்டு, விசுவாசமாகிய கப்பலைச் சேதப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

இமெனேயும் அலெக்சந்தரும் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள்; அவர்கள் தூஷியாதபடி சிட்சிக்கப்பட அவர்களைச் சாத்தானிடத்தில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்.

Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

1தீமோத்தேயு அத்தியாயம் 2

நான் பிரதானமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிற புத்தியென்னவெனில், எல்லா மனுஷருக்காகவும் விண்ணப்பங்களையும் ஜெபங்களையும் வேண்டுதல்களையும் ஸ்தோத்திரங்களையும்பண்ணவேண்டும்;

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

நாம் எல்லாப் பக்தியோடும் நல்லொழுக்கத்தோடும் கலகமில்லாமல் அமைதலுள்ள ஜீவனம்பண்ணும்படிக்கு, ராஜாக்களுக்காகவும், அதிகாரமுள்ள யாவருக்காகவும் அப்படியே செய்யவேண்டும்.

For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

நம்முடைய இரட்சகராகிய தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக அது நன்மையும் பிரியமுமாயிருக்கிறது.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

எல்லா மனுஷரும் இரட்சிக்கப்படவும், சத்தியத்தை அறிகிற அறிவை அடையவும், அவர் சித்தமுள்ளவராயிருக்கிறார்.

Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

தேவன் ஒருவரே, தேவனுக்கும் மனுஷருக்கும் மத்தியஸ்தரும் ஒருவரே.

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

எல்லாரையும் மீட்கும்பொருளாகத் தம்மை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்த மனுஷனாகிய கிறிஸ்து இயேசு அவரே; இதற்குரிய சாட்சி ஏற்ற காலங்களில் விளங்கிவருகிறது.

Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

இதற்காகவே நான் பிரசங்கியாகவும், அப்போஸ்தலனாகவும், புறஜாதிகளுக்கு விசுவாசத்தையும் சத்தியத்தையும் விளங்கப்பண்ணுகிறபோதகனாகவும் நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்; நான் பொய் சொல்லாமல் கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் உண்மையைச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

அன்றியும், புருஷர்கள் கோபமும் தர்க்கமுமில்லாமல் பரிசுத்தமான கைகளை உயர்த்தி, எல்லா இடங்களிலேயும் ஜெபம்பண்ணவேண்டுமென்று விரும்புகிறேன்.

I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

ஸ்திரீகளும் மயிரைப் பின்னுதலினாலாவது, பொன்னினாலாவது, முத்துக்களினாலாவது, விலையேறப்பெற்ற வஸ்திரத்தினாலாவது தங்களை அலங்கரியாமல்,

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

தகுதியான வஸ்திரத்தினாலும், நாணத்தினாலும், தெளிந்த புத்தியினாலும், தேவபக்தியுள்ளவர்களென்று சொல்லிக்கொள்ளுகிற ஸ்திரீகளுக்கு ஏற்றபடியே நற்கிரியைகளினாலும், தங்களை அலங்கரிக்கவேண்டும்.

But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

ஸ்திரீயானவள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் அடக்கமுடையவளாயிருந்து, அமைதலோடு கற்றுக்கொள்ளக்கடவள்.

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

உபதேசம்பண்ணவும், புருஷன்மேல் அதிகாரஞ்செலுத்தவும், ஸ்திரீயானவளுக்கு நான் உத்தரவு கொடுக்கிறதில்லை; அவள் அமைதலாயிருக்கவேண்டும்.

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

என்னத்தினாலெனில், முதலாவது ஆதாம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டான், பின்பு ஏவாள் உருவாக்கப்பட்டாள்.

For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

மேலும், ஆதாம் வஞ்சிக்கப்படவில்லை, ஸ்திரீயானவளே வஞ்சிக்கப்பட்டு மீறுதலுக்கு உட்பட்டாள்.

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

அப்படியிருந்தும், தெளிந்த புத்தியோடு விசுவாசத்திலும் அன்பிலும் பரிசுத்தத்திலும் நிலைகொண்டிருந்தால், பிள்ளைப்பேற்றினாலே இரட்சிக்கப்படுவாள்.

Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

1தீமோத்தேயு அத்தியாயம் 3

கண்காணிப்பை விரும்புகிறவன் நல்ல வேலையை விரும்புகிறான், இது உண்மையான வார்த்தை.

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

ஆகையால் கண்காணியானவன் குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்படாதவனும், ஒரே மனைவியை உடைய புருஷனும், ஜாக்கிரதையுள்ளவனும், தெளிந்த புத்தியுள்ளவனும், யோக்கியதையுள்ளவனும், அந்நியரை உபசரிக்கிறவனும், போதகசமர்த்தனுமாய் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

அவன் மதுபானப்பிரியனும், அடிக்கிறவனும், இழிவான ஆதாயத்தை இச்சிக்கிறவனுமாயிராமல், பொறுமையுள்ளவனும், சண்டைபண்ணாதவனும், பண ஆசையில்லாதவனுமாயிருந்து,

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

தன் சொந்தக் குடும்பத்தை நன்றாய் நடத்துகிறவனும், தன் பிள்ளைகளைச் சகல நல்லொழுக்கமுள்ளவர்களாகக் கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ணுகிறவனுமாயிருக்கவேண்டும்.

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

ஒருவன் தன் சொந்தக் குடும்பத்தை நடத்த அறியாதிருந்தால், தேவனுடைய சபையை எப்படி விசாரிப்பான்?

For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

அவன் இறுமாப்படைந்து, பிசாசு அடைந்த ஆக்கினையிலே விழாதபடிக்கு, நூதன சீஷனாயிருக்கக்கூடாது.

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

அவன் நிந்தனையிலும், பிசாசின் கண்ணியிலும் விழாதபடிக்கு, புறம்பானவர்களால் நற்சாட்சி பெற்றவனாயுமிருக்கவேண்டும்.

Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

அந்தப்படியே, உதவிக்காரரும் இருநாக்குள்ளவர்களாயும், மதுபானப்பிரியராயும், இழிவான ஆதாயத்தை இச்சிக்கிறவர்களாயும் இராமல், நல்லொழுக்கமுள்ளவர்களாயும்,

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

விசுவாசத்தின் இரகசியத்தைச் சுத்த மனச்சாட்சியிலே காத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவர்களாயும் இருக்கவேண்டும்.

Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

மேலும், இவர்கள் முன்னதாகச் சோதிக்கப்படவேண்டும்; குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்படாதவர்களானால் உதவிக்காரராக ஊழியஞ்செய்யலாம்.

And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

அந்தப்படியே ஸ்திரீகளும் நல்லொழுக்கமுள்ளவர்களும், அவதூறுபண்ணாதவர்களும், தெளிந்த புத்தியுள்ளவர்களும், எல்லாவற்றிலேயும் உண்மையுள்ளவர்களுமாயிருக்கவேண்டும்.

Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

மேலும், உதவிக்காரரானவர்கள் ஒரே மனைவியையுடைய புருஷருமாய், தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளையும் சொந்தக் குடும்பங்களையும் நன்றாய் நடத்துகிறவர்களுமாயிருக்கவேண்டும்.

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

இப்படி உதவிக்காரருடைய ஊழியத்தை நன்றாய்ச் செய்கிறவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு நல்ல நிலையையும், கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவைப்பற்றும் விசுவாசத்தில் மிகுந்த தைரியத்தையும் அடைவார்கள்.

For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

நான் உன்னிடத்திற்குச் சீக்கிரமாய் வருவேனென்று நம்பியிருக்கிறேன்.

These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

தாமதிப்பேனாகில், தேவனுடைய வீட்டிலே நடக்கவேண்டிய வகையை நீ அறியும்படி இவைகளை உனக்கு எழுதுகிறேன்; அந்த வீடு ஜீவனுள்ள தேவனுடைய சபையாய்ச் சத்தியத்துக்குத் தூணும் ஆதாரமுமாயிருக்கிறது.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
