ஆதியாகமம் அத்தியாயம் 27

ஈசாக்கு முதிர்வயதானதினால் அவன் கண்கள் இருளடைந்து பார்வையற்றுப் போனபோது, அவன் தன் மூத்த குமாரனாகிய ஏசாவை அழைத்து, என் மகனே என்றான்; அவன், இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.

அப்பொழுது அவன்: நான் முதிர்வயதானேன், என் மரணம் இன்ன நாளில் என்று அறியேன்.

And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

ஆகையால், நீ உன் ஆயுதங்களாகிய உன் அம்பறாத்தூணியையும் உன் வில்லையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வனத்துக்குப்போய், எனக்காக வேட்டையாடி,

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

அதை எனக்குப் பிரியமாயிருக்கிற ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களாகச் சமைத்து, நான் புசிக்கவும், நான் மரணமடையுமுன்னே என் ஆத்துமா உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கவும், என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

ஈசாக்கு தன் குமாரனாகிய ஏசாவோடே பேசுகையில், ரெபெக்காள் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தாள். ஏசா வேட்டையாடிக்கொண்டுவரும்படி வனத்துக்குப் போனான்.

And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

அப்பொழுது ரெபெக்காள் தன் குமாரனாகிய யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: உன் தகப்பன் உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவை அழைத்து:

And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,

நான் புசித்து, எனக்கு மரணம் வருமுன்னே, கர்த்தரை முன்னிட்டு உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி, நீ எனக்காக வேட்டையாடி, அதை எனக்கு ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களாகச் சமைத்துக்கொண்டுவா என்று சொல்லக்கேட்டேன்.

Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.

ஆகையால், என் மகனே, என் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, நான் உனக்குக் கற்பிக்கிறபடி செய்.

Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.

நீ ஆட்டுமந்தைக்குப் போய், இரண்டு நல்ல வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டிகளைக் கொண்டுவா; நான் அவைகளை உன் தகப்பனுக்குப் பிரியமானபடி ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களாகச் சமைப்பேன்.

Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:

உன் தகப்பன் தாம் மரணமடையுமுன்னே உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்குபடி அவர் புசிப்பதற்கு நீ அதை அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுபோகவேண்டும் என்றாள்.

And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.

அதற்கு யாக்கோபு தன் தாயாகிய ரெபெக்காளை நோக்கி: என் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா ரோமம் மிகுந்தவன், நான் ரோமமில்லாதவன்.

And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:

ஒருவேளை என் தகப்பன் என்னைத்தடவிப்பார்ப்பார்; அப்பொழுது நான் அவருக்கு எத்தனாய்க் காணப்பட்டு, என்மேல் ஆசீர்வாதத்தை அல்ல, சாபத்தை வரப்பண்ணிக்கொள்வேனே என்றான்.

My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

அதற்கு அவன் தாய்: என் மகனே, உன்மேல் வரும் சாபம் என்மேல் வரட்டும்; என் சொல்லைமாத்திரம் கேட்டு, நீ போய், அவைகளை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா என்றாள்.

And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.

அவன் போய் அவைகளைப் பிடித்து, தன் தாயினிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தான்; அவனுடைய தாய் அவன் தகப்பனுக்குப்பிரியமானபடி ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களைச் சமைத்தாள்.

And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.

பின்பு, ரெபெக்காள் வீட்டிலே தன்னிடத்தில் இருந்த தன் மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசாவின் நல்ல வஸ்திரங்களை எடுத்து, தன் இளைய மகனாகிய யாக்கோபுக்கு உடுத்தி,

And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:

வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டிகளின் தோலை அவன் கைகளிலேயும் ரோமமில்லாத அவன் கழுத்திலேயும் போட்டு;

And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:

தான் சமைத்த ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களையும் அப்பங்களையும் தன் குமாரனாகிய யாக்கோபின் கையிலே கொடுத்தாள்.

And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

அவன் தன் தகப்பனிடத்தில் வந்து, என் தகப்பனே என்றான்; அதற்கு அவன்: இதோ, இருக்கிறேன்; நீ யார், என் மகனே என்றான்.

And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?

அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: நான் உமது மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசா; நீர் எனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே செய்தேன்; உம்முடைய ஆத்துமா என்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி, நீர் எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்து, நான் வேட்டையாடிக்கொண்டு வந்ததைப் புசியும் என்றான்.

And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்குத் தன் குமாரனை நோக்கி: என் மகனே, இது உனக்கு இத்தனை சீக்கிரமாய் எப்படி அகப்பட்டது என்றான். அவன்: உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எனக்கு நேரிடப்பண்ணினார் என்றான்.

And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.

அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: என் மகனே, நீ என் குமாரனாகிய ஏசாதானோ அல்லவோ என்று நான் உன்னைத் தடவிப்பார்க்கும்படி கிட்ட வா என்றான்.

And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.

யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கண்டையில் கிட்டப் போனான்; அவன் இவனைத் தடவிப்பார்த்து: சத்தம் யாக்கோபின் சத்தம், கைகளோ ஏசாவின் கைகள் என்று சொல்லி,

And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

அவனுடைய கைகள் அவன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் கைகளைப்போல ரோமமுள்ளவைகளாயிருந்தபடியினாலே, இன்னான் என்று அறியாமல், அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து,

And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.

நீ என் குமாரனாகிய ஏசாதானோ என்றான்; அவன்: நான்தான் என்றான்.

And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

அப்பொழுது அவன்: என் குமாரனே, நீ வேட்டையாடிக் கொண்டுவந்ததை நான் புசித்து, என் ஆத்துமா உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி அதை என்கிட்டக் கொண்டுவா என்றான்; அவன் அதைக் கிட்டக் கொண்டுபோனான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் புசித்தான்; பிற்பாடு, திராட்சரசம் அவனுக்குக் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்தான், அவன் குடித்தான்.

And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.

அப்பொழுது அவன் தகப்பானாகிய ஈசாக்கு அவனை நோக்கி: என் மகனே, நீ கிட்ட வந்து என்னை முத்தஞ்செய் என்றான்.

And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

அவன் கிட்டப் போய், அவனை முத்தஞ்செய்தான்; அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய வஸ்திரங்களின் வாசனையை மோந்து: இதோ, என் குமாரனுடைய வாசனை கர்த்தர் ஆசீர்வதித்த வயல்வெளியின் வாசனையைப்போல் இருக்கிறது.

And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:

தேவன் உனக்கு வானத்துப் பனியையும் பூமியின் கொழுமையையும் கொடுத்து, மிகுந்த தானியத்தையும் திராட்சரசத்தையும் தந்தருளுவாராக.

Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

ஜனங்கள் உன்னைச் சேவிக்கவும் ஜாதிகள் உன்னை வணங்கவும்கடவர்கள்; உன் சகோதரருக்கு எஜமானாயிருப்பாய்; உன் தாயின் பிள்ளைகள் உன்னை வணங்குவார்கள்; உன்னைச் சபிக்கிறவர்கள் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்களும், உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கிறவர்கள் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுமாய் இருப்பார்கள் என்று சொல்லி அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்தான்.

Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை ஆசீர்வதித்து முடிந்தபோது, யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் சமுகத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டவுடனே, அவன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா வேட்டையாடி வந்து சேர்ந்தான்.

And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

அவனும் ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களைச் சமைத்து, தன் தகப்பனண்டைக்குக் கொண்டுவந்து, தகப்பனை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய ஆத்துமா என்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி, என் தகப்பனார் எழுந்திருந்து, உம்முடைய குமாரனாகிய நான் வேட்டையாடிக் கொண்டுவந்ததைப் புசிப்பாராக என்றான்.

And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.

அப்பொழுது அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கு: நீ யார் என்றான்; அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உமது மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசா என்றான்.

And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு மிகவும் பிரமித்து நடுங்கி: வேட்டையாடி எனக்குக் கொண்டுவந்தானே, அவன் யார்? நீ வருமுன்னே அவையெல்லாவற்றிலும் நான் புசித்து அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்தேனே, அவன் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவனாகவும் இருப்பான் என்றான்.

And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.

ஏசா தன் தகப்பனுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டவுடனே, மிகவும் மனங்கசந்து உரத்த சத்தமிட்டு அலறி, தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பனே, என்னையும் ஆசீர்வதியும் என்றான்.

And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

அதற்கு அவன்: உன் சகோதரன் தந்திரமாய் வந்து, உன்னுடைய ஆசீர்வாதத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டான் என்றான்.

And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.

அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவன் பெயர் யாக்கோபு என்னப்படுவது சரியல்லவா? இதோடே இரண்டுதரம் என்னை மோசம் போக்கினான்; என் சேஷ்ட புத்திரபாகத்தை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்; இதோ, இப்பொழுது என் ஆசீர்வாதத்தையும் வாங்கிக்கொண்டான் என்று சொல்லி, நீர் எனக்கு ஒரு ஆசீர்வாதத்தையாகிலும் வைத்துவைக்கவில்லையா என்றான்.

And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

ஈசாக்கு ஏசாவுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இதோ, நான் அவனை உனக்கு எஜமானாக வைத்தேன்; அவன் சகோதரர் எல்லாரையும் அவனுக்கு ஊழியக்காரராகக் கொடுத்து, அவனைத் தானியத்தினாலும் திராட்சரசத்தினாலும் ஆதரித்தேன்; இப்பொழுதும் என் மகனே, நான் உனக்கு என்னசெய்வேன் என்றான்.

And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

ஏசா தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பனே, இந்த ஒரே ஆசீர்வாதம் மாத்திரமா உம்மிடத்தில் உண்டு? என் தகப்பனே, என்னையும் ஆசீர்வதியும் என்று சொல்லி, ஏசா சத்தமிட்டு அழுதான்.

And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

அப்பொழுது அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கு அவனுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: உன் வாசஸ்தலம் பூமியின் சாரத்தோடும் உயர வானத்திலிருந்து இறங்கும் பனியோடும் இருக்கும்.

And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

உன் பட்டயத்தினாலே நீ பிழைத்து, உன் சகோதரனைச் சேவிப்பாய்; நீ மேற்கொள்ளும் காலம் வரும்போதோ, உன் கழுத்தில் இருக்கிற அவனுடைய நுகத்தடியை முறித்துப்போடுவாய் என்றான்.

And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

யாக்கோபைத் தன் தகப்பன் ஆசீர்வதித்ததினிமித்தம் ஏசா யாக்கோபைப் பகைத்து: என் தகப்பனுக்காகத் துக்கிக்கும் நாட்கள் சீக்கிரமாய் வரும், அப்பொழுது என் சகோதரனாகிய யாக்கோபைக் கொன்றுபோடுவேன் என்று ஏசா தன் இருதயத்திலே சொல்லிக்கொண்டான்.

And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசாவின் வார்த்தைகள் ரெபெக்காளுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது; அப்பொழுது அவள் தன் இளைய மகனாகிய யாக்கோபை அழைத்து: உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா உன்னைக் கொன்றுபோட நினைத்து, தன்னைத் தேற்றிக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.

And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.

ஆகையால், என் மகனே, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டு, எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, ஆரானில் இருக்கிற என் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானிடத்துக்கு ஓடிப்போய்,

Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;

உன் சகோதரன் உன்மேல் வைத்த கோபம் தணியுமட்டும் சிலநாள் அவனிடத்திலே இரு.

And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;

உன் சகோதரன் உன்மேல் வைத்த கோபம் தணிந்து, நீ அவனுக்குச் செய்ததை அவன் மறந்தபின், நான் ஆள் அனுப்பி, அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து உன்னை அழைப்பிப்பேன்; நான் ஒரே நாளில் உங்கள் இருவரையும் ஏன் இழந்துபோகவேண்டும் என்றாள்.

Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

பின்பு, ரெபெக்காள் ஈசாக்கை நோக்கி: ஏத்தின் குமாரத்திகளினிமித்தம் என் உயிர் எனக்கு வெறுப்பாயிருக்கிறது; இந்தத் தேசத்துப் பெண்களாகிய ஏத்தின் குமாரத்திகளில் யாக்கோபு ஒரு பெண்ணைக் கொள்வானானால் என் உயிர் இருந்து ஆவதென்ன என்றாள்.

And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அழைத்து, அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நீ கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகளில் பெண்கொள்ளாமல்,

And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, பதான் அராமிலிருக்கிற உன் தாயினுடைய தகப்பனாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய வீட்டுக்குப் போய், அவ்விடத்தில் உன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் குமாரத்திகளுக்குள் பெண்கொள் என்று அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டான்.

Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன் உன்னை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நீ பல ஜனக்கூட்டமாகும்படி உன்னைப் பலுகவும் பெருகவும்பண்ணி;

And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

தேவன் ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கொடுத்ததும் நீ பரதேசியாய்த் தங்குகிறதுமான தேசத்தை நீ சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளும்படி ஆபிரகாமுக்கு அருளிய ஆசீர்வாதத்தை உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் அருளுவாராக என்று சொல்லி;

And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அனுப்பிவிட்டான். அப்பொழுது அவன் பதான் அராமிலிருக்கும் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய குமாரனும், தனக்கும் ஏசாவுக்கும் தாயாகிய ரெபெக்காளின் சகோதரனுமான லாபானிடத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டான்.

And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை ஆசீர்வதித்து, ஒரு பெண்ணைக் கொள்ளும்படி அவனைப் பதான் அராமுக்கு அனுப்பினதையும், அவனை ஆசீர்வதிக்கையில்: நீ கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகளில் பெண்கொள்ளவேண்டாம் என்று அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டதையும்,

When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனுக்கும் தன் தாய்க்கும் கீழ்ப்படிந்து, பதான் அராமுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனதையும் ஏசா கண்டதினாலும்,

And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;

கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகள் தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் பார்வைக்கு ஆகாதவர்கள் என்பதை ஏசா அறிந்ததினாலும்,

And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

ஏசா இஸ்மவேலிடத்துக்குப் போய், தனக்கு முன்னிருந்த மனைவிகளுமன்றி, ஆபிரகாமுடைய குமாரனாகிய இஸ்மவேலின் குமாரத்தியும் நெபாயோத்தின் சகோதரியுமாகிய மகலாத்தையும் விவாகம் பண்ணினான்.

Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

யாக்கோபு பெயெர்செபாவை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு ஆரானுக்குப் போகப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி,

And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

ஒரு இடத்திலே வந்து, சூரியன் அஸ்தமித்தபடியினால், அங்கே ராத்தங்கி, அவ்விடத்துக் கற்களில் ஒன்றை எடுத்து, தன் தலையின்கீழ் வைத்து, அங்கே நித்திரை செய்யும்படி படுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

அதற்கு மேலாகக் கர்த்தர் நின்று: நான் உன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் தேவனும் ஈசாக்கின் தேவனுமாகிய கர்த்தர்; நீ படுத்திருக்கிற பூமியை உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் தருவேன்.

And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

உன் சந்ததி பூமியின் தூளைப்போலிருக்கும்; நீ மேற்கேயும், கிழக்கேயும், வடக்கேயும், தெற்கேயும் பரம்புவாய்; உனக்குள்ளும் உன் சந்ததிக்குள்ளும் பூமியின் வம்சங்களெல்லாம் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படும்.

And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

நான் உன்னோடே இருந்து, நீ போகிற இடத்திலெல்லாம் உன்னைக் காத்து, இந்தத் தேசத்துக்கு உன்னைத்திரும்பி வரப்பண்ணுவேன்; நான் உனக்குச் சொன்னதைச் செய்யுமளவும் உன்னைக் கைவிடுவதில்லை என்றார்.

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

யாக்கோபு நித்திரை தெளிந்து விழித்தபோது: மெய்யாகவே கர்த்தர் இந்த ஸ்தலத்தில் இருக்கிறார்; இதை நான் அறியாதிருந்தேன் என்றான்.

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

அவன் பயந்து, இந்த ஸ்தலம் எவ்வளவு பயங்கரமாயிருக்கிறது! இது தேவனுடைய வீடேயல்லாமல் வேறல்ல, இது வானத்தின் வாசல் என்றான்.

And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

அதிகாலையிலே யாக்கோபு எழுந்து, தன் தலையின்கீழ் வைத்திருந்த கல்லை எடுத்து, அதைத் தூணாக நிறுத்தி, அதின்மேல் எண்ணெய் வார்த்து,

And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்குப் பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்; அதற்கு முன்னே அவ்வூருக்கு லூஸ் என்னும் பேர் இருந்தது.

And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு: தேவன் என்னோடே இருந்து, நான் போகிற இந்த வழியிலே என்னைக் காப்பாற்றி, உண்ண ஆகாரமும், உடுக்க வஸ்திரமும் எனக்குத் தந்து,

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

என்னை என் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்குச் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரப்பண்ணுவாரானால், கர்த்தர் எனக்குத் தேவனாயிருப்பார்;

So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

நான் தூணாக நிறுத்தின இந்தக் கல் தேவனுக்கு வீடாகும்; தேவரீர் எனக்குத் தரும் எல்லாவற்றிலும் உமக்குத் தசமபாகம் செலுத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லிப் பொருத்தனைபண்ணிக்கொண்டான்.

And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

மத்தேயு அத்தியாயம் 14

அக்காலத்தில், காற்பங்கு தேசாதிபதியாகிய ஏரோது இயேசுவின் கீர்த்தியைக் கேள்விப்பட்டு,

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

தன் ஊழியக்காரரை நோக்கி: இவன் யோவான்ஸ்நானன்; இவன் மரித்தோரிலிருந்து எழுந்தான்; ஆகையால், இவனிடத்தில் பலத்த செய்கைகள் விளங்குகிறது என்றான்.

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

ஏரோது தன் சகோதரனாகிய பிலிப்புவின் மனைவி ஏரோதியாளினிமித்தம் யோவானைப் பிடித்துக் கட்டிக் காவலில் வைத்திருந்தான்.

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

ஏனெனில்: நீர் அவளை வைத்துக்கொள்வது நியாயமல்லவென்று யோவான் அவனுக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்தான்.

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

ஏரோது அவனைக் கொலைசெய்ய மனதாயிருந்தும், ஜனங்கள் அவனைத் தீர்க்கதரிசியென்று எண்ணினபடியால் அவர்களுக்குப் பயந்திருந்தான்.

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

அப்படியிருக்க, ஏரோதின் ஜென்மநாள் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறபோது, ஏரோதியாளின் குமாரத்தி அவர்கள் நடுவே நடனம்பண்ணி ஏரோதைச் சந்தோஷப்படுத்தினாள்.

But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

அதினிமித்தம் அவன்: நீ எதைக்கேட்டாலும் தருவேன் என்று அவளுக்கு ஆணையிட்டு வாக்குக்கொடுத்தான்.

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

அவள் தன் தாயினால் ஏவப்பட்டபடியே: யோவான்ஸ்நானனுடைய தலையை இங்கே ஒரு தாலத்திலே எனக்குத் தாரும் என்று கேட்டாள்.

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

ராஜா துக்கமடைந்தான். ஆகிலும், ஆணையினிமித்தமும், பந்தியில் கூட இருந்தவர்களினிமித்தமும், அதைக் கொடுக்கக்கட்டளையிட்டு,

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

ஆள் அனுப்பி, காவற்கூடத்திலே யோவானைச் சிரச்சேதம்பண்ணுவித்தான்.

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

அவனுடைய சிரசை ஒரு தாலத்திலே கொண்டுவந்து, சிறு பெண்ணுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அவள் அதைத் தன் தாயினிடத்தில் கொண்டுபோனாள்.

And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

அவனுடைய சீஷர்கள் வந்து உடலை எடுத்து அடக்கம்பண்ணி, பின்பு போய் அந்தச் சங்கதியை இயேசுவுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

இயேசு அதைக் கேட்டு, அவ்விடம் விட்டு, படவில் ஏறி, வனாந்தரமான ஓர் இடத்துக்குத் தனியே போனார். ஜனங்கள் அதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, பட்டணங்களிலிருந்து கால்நடையாய் அவரிடத்திற்குப் போனார்கள்.

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

இயேசு வந்து, திரளான ஜனங்களைக் கண்டு, அவர்கள்மேல் மனதுருகி, அவர்களில் வியாதியஸ்தர்களாயிருந்தவர்களைச் சொஸ்தமாக்கினார்.

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

சாயங்காலமானபோது, அவருடைய சீஷர்கள் அவரிடத்தில் வந்து: இது வனாந்தரமான இடம், நேரமுமாயிற்று; ஜனங்கள் கிராமங்களுக்குப்போய்த் தங்களுக்கு போஜனபதார்த்தங்களைக்கொள்ளும்படி அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிடவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: அவர்கள் போகவேண்டுவதில்லை; நீங்களே அவர்களுக்குப் போஜனங்கொடுங்கள் என்றார்.

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

அதற்கு அவர்கள்: இங்கே எங்களிடத்தில் ஐந்து அப்பமும் இரண்டு மீன்களுமேயல்லாமல், வேறொன்றும் இல்லை என்றார்கள்.

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

அவைகளை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றார்.

He said, Bring them hither to me.

அப்பொழுது, அவர் ஜனங்களைப் புல்லின்மேல் பந்தியிருக்கக் கட்டளையிட்டு, அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும், அந்த இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து, வானத்தை அண்ணாந்துபார்த்து, ஆசீர்வதித்து, அப்பங்களைப் பிட்டுச் சீஷர்களிடத்தில் கொடுத்தார்; சீஷர்கள் ஜனங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

எல்லாரும் சாப்பிட்டுத் திருப்தியடைந்தார்கள்; மீதியான துணிக்கைகளைப் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைநிறைய எடுத்தார்கள்.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

ஸ்திரீகளும் பிள்ளைகளும் தவிர, சாப்பிட்ட புருஷர்கள் ஏறக்குறைய ஐயாயிரம்பேராயிருந்தார்கள்.

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

இயேசு ஜனங்களை அனுப்பிவிடுகையில், தம்முடைய சீஷர்கள் படவில் ஏறி, தமக்கு முன்னே அக்கரைக்குப் போகும்படி அவர்களைத் துரிதப்படுத்தினார்.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

அவர் ஜனங்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டபின்பு, தனித்து ஜெபம்பண்ண ஒரு மலையின்மேல் ஏறி, சாயங்காலமானபோது அங்கே தனிமையாயிருந்தார்.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

அதற்குள்ளாகப் படவு நடுக்கடலிலே சேர்ந்து, எதிர்க்காற்றாயிருந்தபடியால் அலைகளினால் அலைவுபட்டது.

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

இரவின் நாலாம் ஜாமத்திலே, இயேசு கடலின்மேல் நடந்து, அவர்களிடத்திற்கு வந்தார்.

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

அவர் கடலின்மேல் நடக்கிறதைச் சீஷர்கள் கண்டு, கலக்கமடைந்து, ஆவேசம் என்று சொல்லி, பயத்தினால் அலறினார்கள்.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

உடனே இயேசு அவர்களோடே பேசி: திடன்கொள்ளுங்கள், நான்தான், பயப்படாதிருங்கள் என்றார்.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

பேதுரு அவரை நோக்கி: ஆண்டவரே! நீரேயானால் நான் ஜலத்தின்மேல் நடந்து உம்மிடத்தில் வரக் கட்டளையிடும் என்றான்.

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

அதற்கு அவர்: வா என்றார். அப்பொழுது, பேதுரு படவை விட்டிறங்கி, இயேசுவினிடத்தில் போக ஜலத்தின்மேல் நடந்தான்.

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

காற்று பலமாயிருக்கிறதைக் கண்டு, பயந்து, அமிழ்ந்துபோகையில்: ஆண்டவரே, என்னை இரட்சியும் என்று கூப்பிட்டான்.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

உடனே இயேசு கையை நீட்டி அவனைப் பிடித்து: அற்பவிசுவாசியே, ஏன் சந்தேகப்பட்டாய் என்றார்.

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

அவர்கள் படவில் ஏறினவுடனே காற்று அமர்ந்தது.

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

அப்பொழுது, படவில் உள்ளவர்கள் வந்து: மெய்யாகவே நீர் தேவனுடைய குமாரன் என்று சொல்லி, அவரைப் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

பின்பு, அவர்கள் கடலைக் கடந்து, கெனேசரேத்து நாட்டில் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

அவ்விடத்து மனுஷர் அவரை இன்னார் என்று அறிந்து, சுற்றுப்புறமெங்கும் செய்தி அனுப்பி, பிணியாளிகளெல்லாரையும் அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து,

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

அவருடைய வஸ்திரத்தின் ஓரத்தையாகிலும் அவர்கள் தொடும்படி உத்தரவாகவேண்டுமென்று அவரை வேண்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்; தொட்ட யாவரும் சொஸ்தமானார்கள்.

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
