எண்ணாகமம் அத்தியாயம் 13

கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

நான் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் கானான்தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்ப்பதற்கு நீ மனிதரை அனுப்பு; ஒவ்வொரு பிதாக்களின் கோத்திரத்திலும் ஒவ்வொரு பிரபுவாகிய புருஷனை அனுப்பவேண்டும் என்றார்.

Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

மோசே கர்த்தருடைய வாக்கின்படியே அவர்களைப் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்திலிருந்து அனுப்பினான்; அந்த மனிதர் யாவரும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் தலைவர்கள்.

And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

அவர்களுடைய நாமங்களாவன: ரூபன் கோத்திரத்தில் சக்கூரின் குமாரன் சம்முவா.

And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

சிமியோன் கோத்திரத்தில் ஓரியின் குமாரன் சாப்பாத்.

Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

யூதா கோத்திரத்தில் எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேப்.

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

இசக்கார் கோத்திரத்தில் யோசேப்பின் குமாரன் ஈகால்.

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தில் நூனின் குமாரன் ஓசேயா.

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.

பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தில் ரப்பூவின் குமாரன் பல்த்தி.

Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

செபுலோன் கோத்திரத்தில் சோதியின் குமாரன் காதியேல்.

Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

யோசேப்பின் கோத்திரத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மனாசே கோத்திரத்தில் சூசின் குமாரன் காதி.

Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

தாண் கோத்திரத்தில் கெமல்லியின் குமாரன் அம்மியேல்.

Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

ஆசேர் கோத்திரத்தில் மிகாவேலின் குமாரன் சேத்தூர்.

Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

நப்தலி கோத்திரத்தில் ஒப்பேசியின் குமாரன் நாகபி.

Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

காத் கோத்திரத்தில் மாகியின் குமாரன் கூவேல்.

Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி மோசே அனுப்பின மனிதரின் நாமங்கள் இவைகளே: நூனின் குமாரனாகிய ஓசேயாவுக்கு யோசுவா என்று மோசே பேரிட்டிருந்தான்.

These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

அவர்களை மோசே கானான்தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி அனுப்புகையில், அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படித் தெற்கே போய், மலையில் ஏறி,

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

தேசம் எப்படிப்பட்டதென்றும், அங்கே குடியிருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் பலவான்களோ பலவீனர்களோ, கொஞ்சம்பேரோ அநேகம்பேரோ என்றும்,

And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;

அவர்கள் குடியிருக்கிற தேசம் எப்படிப்பட்டது, அது நல்லதோ கெட்டதோ என்றும், அவர்கள் பட்டணங்கள் எப்படிப்பட்டதென்றும், அவர்கள் கூடாரங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களோ கோட்டைகளில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களோ என்றும்,

And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

நிலம் எப்படிப்பட்டது அது வளப்பமானதோ இளப்பமானதோ என்றும்; அதில் விருட்சங்கள் உண்டோ இல்லையோ என்றும் பாருங்கள்; தைரியங்கொண்டிருந்து, தேசத்தின் கனிகளிலே சிலவற்றைக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அக்காலம் திராட்சச்செடி முதற்பழம் பழுக்கிற காலமாயிருந்தது.

And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

அவர்கள் போய், சீன் வனாந்தரந்தொடங்கி, ஆமாத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியாகிய ரேகொப்மட்டும், தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து,

So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

தெற்கேயும் சென்று, எபிரோன்மட்டும் போனார்கள்; அங்கே ஏனாக்கின் குமாரராகிய அகீமானும் சேசாயும் தல்மாயும் இருந்தார்கள். எபிரோன் எகிப்திலுள்ள சோவானுக்கு ஏழுவருஷத்திற்குமுன்னே கட்டப்பட்டது.

And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அங்கே அறுத்த திராட்சக்குலையினிமித்தம், அவ்விடம் எஸ்கோல் பள்ளத்தாக்கு என்னப்பட்டது.

The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

அவர்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்த்து, நாற்பதுநாள் சென்றபின்பு திரும்பினார்கள்.

And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

அவர்கள் பாரான் வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற காதேசுக்கு வந்து, மோசே ஆரோன் என்பவர்களிடத்திலும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சபையார் எல்லாரிடத்திலும் சேர்ந்து, அவர்களுக்கும் சபையார் அனைவருக்கும் சமாசாரத்தை அறிவித்து, தேசத்தின் கனிகளை அவர்களுக்குக் காண்பித்தார்கள்.

And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

அவர்கள் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை அனுப்பின தேசத்துக்கு நாங்கள் போய் வந்தோம்; அது பாலும் தேனும் ஓடுகிற தேசந்தான்; இது அதினுடைய கனி.

And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

ஆனாலும், அந்த தேசத்திலே குடியிருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் பலவான்கள்; பட்டணங்கள் அரணிப்பானவைகளும் மிகவும் பெரியவைகளுமாய் இருக்கிறது; அங்கே ஏனாக்கின் குமாரரையும் கண்டோம்.

Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

அமலேக்கியர் தென்புறமான தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்; ஏத்தியரும், எபூசியரும், எமோரியரும் மலைநாட்டில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்; கானானியர் கடல் அருகேயும் யோர்தானண்டையிலும் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றார்கள்.

The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

அப்பொழுது காலேப் மோசேக்கு முன்பாக ஜனங்களை அமர்த்தி: நாம் உடனே போய் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவோம்; நாம் அதை எளிதாய் ஜெயித்துக்கொள்ளலாம் என்றான்.

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

அவனோடேகூடப் போய்வந்த மனிதரோ: நாம் போய் அந்த ஜனங்களோடே எதிர்க்க நம்மாலே கூடாது; அவர்கள் நம்மைப்பார்க்கிலும் பலவான்கள் என்றார்கள்.

But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

நாங்கள் போய்ச் சுற்றிப் பார்த்து வந்த அந்த தேசம் தன் குடிகளைப் பட்சிக்கிற தேசம்; நாங்கள் அதிலே கண்ட ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் மிகவும் பெரிய ஆட்கள்.

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

அங்கே இராட்சதப் பிறவியான ஏனாக்கின் குமாரராகிய இராட்சதரையும் கண்டோம்; நாங்கள் எங்கள் பார்வைக்கு வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போல் இருந்தோம், அவர்கள் பார்வைக்கும் அப்படியே இருந்தோம் என்று சொல்லி, இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குள்ளே தாங்கள் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து வந்த தேசத்தைக்குறித்து துர்ச்செய்தி பரம்பச்செய்தார்கள்.

And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

அப்பொழுது சபையார் எல்லாரும் கூக்குரலிட்டுப் புலம்பினார்கள்; ஜனங்கள் அன்று இராமுழுதும் அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாரும் மோசேக்கும் ஆரோனுக்கும் விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்தார்கள். சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எகிப்துதேசத்திலே செத்துப்போனோமானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே நாங்கள் செத்தாலும் நலம்.

And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

நாங்கள் பட்டயத்தால் மடியும்படிக்கும், எங்கள் பெண்ஜாதிகளும் பிள்ளைகளும் கொள்ளையாகும்படிக்கும், கர்த்தர் எங்களை இந்த தேசத்துக்குக் கொண்டு வந்தது என்ன? எகிப்துக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகிறதே எங்களுக்கு உத்தமம் அல்லவோ என்றார்கள்.

And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

பின்பு அவர்கள்: நாம் ஒரு தலைவனை ஏற்படுத்திக்கொண்டு எகிப்துக்குத் திருப்பிப்போவோம் வாருங்கள் என்று ஒருவரோடொருவர் சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

அப்பொழுது மோசேயும் ஆரோனும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சபையாராகிய எல்லாக் கூட்டத்தாருக்கு முன்பாகவும் முகங்குப்புற விழுந்தார்கள்.

Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்தவர்களில் நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரனாகிய காலேபும், தங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு,

And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரின் சமஸ்த சபையையும் நோக்கி: நாங்கள் போய்ச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து சோதித்த தேசம் மகா நல்ல தேசம்.

And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

கர்த்தர் நம்மேல் பிரியமாயிருந்தால், அந்தத் தேசத்திலே நம்மைக் கொண்டுபோய், பாலும் தேனும் ஓடுகிற அந்தத் தேசத்தை நமக்குக் கொடுப்பார்.

If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாகமாத்திரம் கலகம்பண்ணாதிருங்கள்; அந்த தேசத்தின் ஜனங்களுக்கு நீங்கள் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை; அவர்கள் நமக்கு இரையாவார்கள்; அவர்களைக் காத்த நிழல் அவர்களை விட்டு விலகிப்போயிற்று; கர்த்தர் நம்மோடே இருக்கிறார்; அவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை என்றார்கள்.

Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்மேல் கல்லெறியவேண்டும் என்று சபையார் எல்லாரும் சொன்னார்கள்; உடனே கர்த்தருடைய மகிமை ஆசரிப்புக்கூடாரத்தில் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாருக்கும் முன்பாகக் காணப்பட்டது.

But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: எதுவரைக்கும் இந்த ஜனங்கள் எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்குவார்கள்? தங்களுக்குள்ளே நான் காட்டின சகல அடையாளங்களையும் அவர்கள் கண்டும், எதுவரைக்கும் என்னை விசுவாசியாதிருப்பார்கள்?

And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

நான் அவர்களைக் கொள்ளைநோயினால் வாதித்து, சுதந்தரத்துக்குப் பறம்பாக்கிப்போட்டு, அவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உன்னைப் பெரிதும் பலத்ததுமான ஜாதியாக்குவேன் என்றார்.

I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

மோசே கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: எகிப்தியர் இதைக் கேட்பார்கள், அவர்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து உம்முடைய வல்லமையினாலே இந்த ஜனங்களைக் கொண்டுவந்தீரே.

And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

கர்த்தராகிய நீர் இந்த ஜனங்களின் நடுவே இருக்கிறதையும், கர்த்தராகிய நீர் முகமுகமாய்த் தரிசனமாகிறதையும், உம்முடைய மேகம் இவர்கள்மேல் நிற்கிறதையும், பகலில் மேகத்தூணிலும், இரவில் அக்கினித்தூணிலும், நீர் இவர்களுக்கு முன் செல்லுகிறதையும் கேட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்; இந்த தேசத்தின் குடிகளுக்கும் சொல்லுவார்கள்.

And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

ஒரே மனிதனைக் கொல்லுகிறது போல இந்த ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் நீர் கொல்வீரானால், அப்பொழுது உம்முடைய கீர்த்தியைக் கேட்டிருக்கும் புறஜாதியார்:

Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

கர்த்தர் அந்த ஜனங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்போம் என்று ஆணையிட்டிருந்த தேசத்திலே அவர்களைக் கொண்டுபோய்விடக்கூடாதே போனபடியினால், அவர்களை வனாந்தரத்திலே கொன்றுபோட்டார் என்பார்களே.

Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் நீடிய சாந்தமும் மிகுந்த கிருபையுமுள்ளவர் என்றும், அக்கிரமத்தையும் மீறுதலையும் மன்னிக்கிறவர் என்றும், குற்றமுள்ளவர்களைக் குற்றமற்றவர்களாக விடாமல், பிதாக்கள் செய்த அக்கிரமத்தைப் பிள்ளைகளிடத்தில் மூன்றாம் நான்காம் தலைமுறைமட்டும் விசாரிக்கிறவர் என்றும், நீர் சொல்லியிருக்கிறபடியே,

And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

என் ஆண்டவருடைய வல்லமை பெரிதாய் விளங்குவதாக.

The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

உமது கிருபையினுடைய மகத்துவத்தின்படியேயும், எகிப்தை விட்டதுமுதல் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இந்த ஜனங்களுக்கு மன்னித்து வந்ததின்படியேயும், இந்த ஜனங்களின் அக்கிரமத்தை மன்னித்தருளும் என்றான்.

Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: உன் வார்த்தையின்படியே மன்னித்தேன்.

And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

பூமியெல்லாம் கர்த்தருடைய மகிமையினால் நிறைந்திருக்கும் என்று என்னுடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்.

But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

என் மகிமையையும், நான் எகிப்திலும் வனாந்தரத்திலும் செய்த என் அடையாளங்களையும் கண்டிருந்தும், என் சத்தத்துக்குச் செவிகொடாமல், இதனோடே பத்துமுறை என்னைப் பரீட்சைபார்த்த மனிதரில் ஒருவரும்,

Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

அவர்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு நான் ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்; எனக்குக் கோபம் உண்டாக்கினவர்களில் ஒருவரும் அதைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்.

Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

என்னுடைய தாசனாகிய காலேப் வேறே ஆவியை உடையவனாயிருக்கிறபடியினாலும், உத்தமமாய் என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வந்தபடியினாலும், அவன் போய் வந்த தேசத்திலே அவனைச் சேரப்பண்ணுவேன்; அவன் சந்ததியார் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவார்கள்.

But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியரும் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே குடியிருக்கிறபடியினால், நாளைக்கு நீங்கள் திரும்பி சிவந்த சமுத்திரத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியாய் வனாந்தரத்துக்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றார்.

(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

பின்னும் கர்த்தர் மோசேயையும் ஆரோனையும் நோக்கி:

And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கிற இந்தப் பொல்லாத சபையாரை எதுவரைக்கும் பொறுப்பேன்? இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கிறதைக் கேட்டேன்.

How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

நீ அவர்களோடே சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: நீங்கள் என் செவிகள் கேட்கச் சொன்ன பிரகாரம் உங்களுக்குச் செய்வேன் என்பதை என் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார்.

Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

இந்த வனாந்தரத்தில் உங்கள் பிரேதங்கள் விழும்; உங்களில் இருபது வயது முதல் அதற்கு மேற்பட்டவர்களாக எண்ணப்பட்டு, உங்கள் தொகைக்கு உட்பட்டவர்களும் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுத்திருக்கிறவர்களுமாகிய அனைவரின் பிரேதங்களும் விழும்.

Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,

எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேபும், நூனின் குமாரன் யோசுவாவும் தவிர, மற்றவர்களாகிய நீங்கள் நான் உங்களைக் குடியேற்றுவேன் என்று ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பதில்லை.

Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

கொள்ளையாவார்கள் என்று நீங்கள் சொன்ன உங்கள் குழந்தைகளையோ நான் அதில் பிரவேசிக்கச் செய்வேன்; நீங்கள் அசட்டைப்பண்ணின தேசத்தை அவர்கள் கண்டறிவார்கள்.

But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

உங்கள் பிரேதங்களோ இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே விழும்.

But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

நீங்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்த நாற்பதுநாள் இலக்கத்தின்படியே, ஒவ்வொரு நாள் ஒவ்வொரு வருஷமாக, நீங்கள் நாற்பது வருஷம் உங்கள் அக்கிரமங்களைச் சுமந்து, என் உடன்படிக்கைக்கு வந்த மாறுதலை உணருவீர்கள்.

After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

கர்த்தராகிய நான் இதைச் சொன்னேன்; எனக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கூட்டங்கூடின இந்தப் பொல்லாத சபையார் யாவருக்கும் இப்படியே செய்வேன்; இந்த வனாந்தரத்திலே அழிவார்கள், இங்கே சாவார்கள் என்று சொல் என்றார்.

I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

அந்தத் தேசத்தைச் சோதித்துப் பார்க்கும்படி மோசேயால் அனுப்பப்பட்டுத் திரும்பி, அந்தத் தேசத்தைக்குறித்துத் துர்ச்செய்தி கொண்டுவந்து,

And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

சபையார் எல்லாரும் அவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் முறுமுறுக்கும்படி அந்தத் துர்ச்செய்தியைச் சொன்னவர்களாகிய அந்த மனிதர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வாதையினால் செத்தார்கள்.

Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப் பார்க்கப்போன அந்த மனிதரில் நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரனாகிய காலேபும் மாத்திரம் உயிரோடிருந்தார்கள்.

But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

மோசே இந்த வார்த்தைகளை இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அனைவரோடும் சொன்னபோது, ஜனங்கள் மிகவும் துக்கித்தார்கள்.

And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

அதிகாலமே அவர்கள் எழுந்திருந்து: நாங்கள் பாவஞ்செய்தோம், கர்த்தர் வாக்குத்தத்தம்பண்ணின இடத்துக்கு நாங்கள் போவோம் என்று சொல்லி மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறத்துணிந்தார்கள்.

And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

மோசே அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படி கர்த்தரின் கட்டளையை மீறுகிறதென்ன? அது உங்களுக்கு வாய்க்காது.

And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.

நீங்கள் உங்கள் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படாதபடிக்கு ஏறிப்போகாதிருங்கள்; கர்த்தர் உங்கள் நடுவில் இரார்.

Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியரும் அங்கே உங்களுக்குமுன்னே இருக்கிறார்கள்; பட்டயத்தினால் விழுவீர்கள்; நீங்கள் கர்த்தரை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்கினபடியால், கர்த்தர் உங்களோடே இருக்கமாட்டார் என்றான்.

For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறத் துணிந்தார்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கையின் பெட்டியும் மோசேயும் பாளயத்தை விட்டுப்போகவில்லை.

But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

அப்பொழுது அமலேக்கியரும் கானானியாரும் அந்த மலையிலே இருந்து இறங்கி வந்து, அவர்களை முறிய அடித்து, அவர்களை ஓர்மாமட்டும் துரத்தினார்கள்.

Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

பஸ்கா என்னப்பட்ட புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பப்பண்டிகை சமீபமாயிற்று.

Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

அப்பொழுது பிரதான ஆசாரியரும் வேதபாரகரும் அவரைக் கொலைசெய்யும்படி யோசித்து, ஜனங்களுக்குப் பயப்பட்டபடியினால், எவ்விதமாய் அப்படிச்செய்யலாமென்று வகைதேடினார்கள்.

And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

அப்பொழுது பன்னிருவரில் ஒருவனாகிய ஸ்காரியோத்தென்னும் மறுபேர்கொண்ட யூதாசுக்குள் சாத்தான் புகுந்தான்.

Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

அவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியர்களிடத்திலும் சேனைத்தலைவர்களிடத்திலும் போய், அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கும் வகையைக்குறித்து அவர்களோடே ஆலோசனைபண்ணினான்.

And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

அவர்கள் சந்தோஷப்பட்டு, அவனுக்குப் பணங்கொடுக்க உடன்பட்டார்கள்.

And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

அதற்கு அவன் சம்மதித்து, ஜனக்கூட்டமில்லாத வேளையில் அவரை அவர்களுக்குக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கும்படி சமயந்தேடினான்.

And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

அப்பொழுது அவர் பேதுருவையும் யோவானையும் அழைத்து: நாம் பஸ்காவைப் புசிக்கும்படிக்கு நீங்கள் போய், அதை நமக்கு ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றார்.

And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நாங்கள் அதை எங்கே ஆயத்தம்பண்ணும்படி சித்தமாயிருக்கிறீர் என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

அதற்கு அவர்: நீங்கள் நகரத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது, தண்ணீர்க்குடம் சுமந்துவருகிற ஒரு மனுஷன் உங்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவான்; நீங்கள் அவனுக்குப் பின்சென்று, அவன் போகும் வீட்டிற்குள் நீங்களும் போய்,

And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

அந்த வீட்டெஜமானை நோக்கி: நான் என் சீஷரோடுகூடப் பஸ்காவைப் புசிக்கிறதற்குத் தகுதியான இடம் எங்கே என்று போதகர் உம்மிடத்தில் கேட்கச்சொன்னார் என்று சொல்லுங்கள்.

And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

அவன் கம்பளமுதலானவைகள் விரித்திருக்கிற மேல்வீட்டிலுள்ள ஒரு பெரிய அறையை உங்களுக்குக் காண்பிப்பான்; அங்கே ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினார்.

And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

அவர்கள் போய், தங்களிடத்தில் அவர் சொன்னபடியே கண்டு, பஸ்காவை ஆயத்தம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

தேவனுடைய ராஜ்யத்திலே இது நிறைவேறுமளவும் நான் இனி இதைப் புசிப்பதில்லையென்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

அவர் பாத்திரத்தை எடுத்து, ஸ்தோத்திரம்பண்ணி: நீங்கள் இதை வாங்கி, உங்களுக்குள்ளே பங்கிட்டுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்;

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

தேவனுடைய ராஜ்யம் வருமளவும் நான் திராட்சப்பழரசத்தைப் பானம்பண்ணுவதில்லையென்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

பின்பு அவர் அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, ஸ்தோத்திரம்பண்ணி, அதைப் பிட்டு, அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து: இது உங்களுக்காகக் கொடுக்கப்படுகிற என்னுடைய சரீரமாயிருக்கிறது; என்னை நினைவுகூரும்படி இதைச் செய்யுங்கள் என்றார்.

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

போஜனம்பண்ணினபின்பு அவர் அந்தப்படியே பாத்திரத்தையும் கொடுத்து: இந்தப் பாத்திரம் உங்களுக்காகச் சிந்தப்படுகிற என்னுடைய இரத்தத்தினாலாகிய புதிய உடன்படிக்கையாயிருக்கிறது என்றார்.

Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

பின்பு: இதோ, என்னைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கிறவனுடைய கை என்னுடனேகூடப் பந்தியிலிருக்கிறது.

But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்டபடியே மனுஷகுமாரன் போகிறார், ஆனாலும் அவரைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கிற மனுஷனுக்கு ஐயோ என்றார்.

And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் நம்மில் யார் அப்படிச் செய்வான் என்று தங்களுக்குள்ளே விசாரிக்கத் தொடங்கினார்கள்.

And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

அன்றியும் தங்களில் எவன் பெரியவனாயிருப்பான் என்று அவர்களுக்குள்ளே வாக்குவாதம் உண்டாயிற்று.

And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி: புறஜாதியாரின் ராஜாக்கள் அவர்களை ஆளுகிறார்கள்; அவர்கள்மேல் அதிகாரம் செலுத்துகிறவர்களும் உபகாரிகள் என்னப்படுகிறார்கள்.

And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

உங்களுக்குள்ளே அப்படியிருக்கக்கூடாது; உங்களில் பெரியவன் சிறியவனைப்போலவும், தலைவன் பணிவிடைக்காரனைப்போலவும் இருக்கக்கடவன்.

But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

பந்தியிருக்கிறவனோ, பணிவிடைசெய்கிறவனோ, எவன் பெரியவன்? பந்தியிருக்கிறவன் அல்லவா? அப்படியிருந்தும், நான் உங்கள் நடுவிலே பணிவிடைக்காரனைப்போல் இருக்கிறேன்.

For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

மேலும் எனக்கு நேரிட்ட சோதனைகளில் என்னோடேகூட நிலைத்திருந்தவர்கள் நீங்களே.

Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

ஆகையால், என் பிதா எனக்கு ஒரு ராஜ்யத்தை ஏற்படுத்தினதுபோல, நானும் உங்களுக்கு ஏற்படுத்துகிறேன்.

And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

பின்னும் கர்த்தர்: சீமோனே, சீமோனே, இதோ, கோதுமையைச் சுளகினால் புடைக்கிறதுபோலச் சாத்தான் உங்களைப் புடைக்கிறதற்கு உத்தரவு கேட்டுக்கொண்டான்.

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

நானோ உன் விசுவாசம் ஒழிந்துபோகாதபடிக்கு உனக்காக வேண்டிக்கொண்டேன்; நீ குணப்பட்டபின்பு உன் சகோதரரை ஸ்திரப்படுத்து என்றார்.

But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

அதற்கு அவன்: ஆண்டவரே, காவலிலும் சாவிலும் உம்மைப் பின்பற்றிவர, ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

அவர் அவனை நோக்கி: பேதுருவே, இன்றைக்குச் சேவல் கூவுகிறதற்கு முன்னே நீ என்னை அறிந்திருக்கிறதை மூன்றுதரம் மறுதலிப்பாய் என்று உனக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

பின்னும் அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி: நான் உங்களைப் பணப்பையும் சாமான்பையும் பாதரட்சைகளும் இல்லாமல் அனுப்பினபோது, ஏதாகிலும் உங்களுக்குக் குறைவாயிருந்ததா என்றார். அவர்கள், ஒன்றும் குறைவாயிருந்ததில்லை என்றார்கள்.

And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

அதற்கு அவர்: இப்பொழுதோ பணப்பையும் சாமான்பையும் உடையவன் அவைகளை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளக்கடவன்; பட்டயம் இல்லாதவன் தன் வஸ்திரத்தை விற்று ஒன்றைக் கொள்ளக்கடவன்.

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

அக்கிரமக்காரரில் ஒருவனாக எண்ணப்பட்டார் என்று எழுதியிருக்கிற வாக்கியம் என்னிடத்தில் நிறைவேறவேண்டியதென்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன். என்னைப்பற்றிய காரியங்கள் முடிவு பெறுங்காலம் வந்திருக்கிறது என்றார்.

For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

அதற்கு அவர்கள்: ஆண்டவரே, இதோ, இங்கே இரண்டு பட்டயம் இருக்கிறது என்றார்கள். அவர்: போதும் என்றார்.

And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

பின்பு அவர் புறப்பட்டு, வழக்கத்தின்படியே ஒலிவமலைக்குப் போனார், அவருடைய சீஷரும் அவரோடேகூடப்போனார்கள்.

And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

அவ்விடத்தில் சேர்ந்தபொழுது அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் சோதனைக்குட்படாதபடிக்கு ஜெபம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி,

And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

அவர்களை விட்டுக் கல்லெறி தூரம் அப்புறம்போய், முழங்கால்படியிட்டு:

And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

பிதாவே, உமக்குச் சித்தமானால் இந்தப் பாத்திரம் என்னைவிட்டு நீங்கும்படி செய்யும்; ஆயினும் என்னுடைய சித்தத்தின்படியல்ல, உம்முடைய சித்தத்தின்படியே ஆகக்கடவது என்று ஜெபம்பண்ணினார்.

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

அப்பொழுது வானத்திலிருந்து ஒரு தூதன் தோன்றி, அவரைப் பலப்படுத்தினான்.

And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

அவர் மிகவும் வியாகுலப்பட்டு, அதிக ஊக்கத்தோடே ஜெபம்பண்ணினார். அவருடைய வேர்வை இரத்தத்தின் பெருந்துளிகளாய்த் தரையிலே விழுந்தது.

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

அவர் ஜெபம்பண்ணி முடித்து, எழுந்திருந்து, தம்முடைய சீஷரிடத்தில் வந்து, அவர்கள் துக்கத்தினாலே நித்திரைபண்ணுகிறதைக் கண்டு:

And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

நீங்கள் நித்திரைபண்ணுகிறதென்ன? சோதனைக்குட்படாதபடிக்கு, எழுந்திருந்து ஜெபம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றார்.

And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

அவர் அப்படிப் பேசுகையில் ஜனங்கள் கூட்டமாய் வந்தார்கள். அவர்களுக்கு முன்னே பன்னிருவரில் ஒருவனாகிய யூதாஸ் என்பவனும் வந்து, இயேசுவை முத்தஞ்செய்யும்படி அவரிடத்தில் சேர்ந்தான்.

And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

இயேசு அவனை நோக்கி: யூதாசே, முத்தத்தினாலேயா மனுஷகுமாரனைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்கிறாய் என்றார்.

But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

அவரைச் சூழநின்றவர்கள் நடக்கப்போகிறதைக் கண்டு: ஆண்டவரே, பட்டயத்தினாலே வெட்டுவோமா என்றார்கள்.

When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

அந்தப்படியே அவர்களில் ஒருவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியனுடைய வேலைக்காரனை வலதுகாதற வெட்டினான்.

And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

அப்பொழுது இயேசு: இம்மட்டில் நிறுத்துங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுடைய காதைத்தொட்டு, அவனைச் சொஸ்தப்படுத்தினார்.

And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

பின்பு இயேசு தமக்கு விரோதமாய் வந்த பிரதான ஆசாரியர்களையும் தேவாலயத்துச் சேனைத்தலைவர்களையும் மூப்பர்களையும் நோக்கி: ஒரு கள்ளனைப்பிடிக்கப் புறப்பட்டு வருகிறதுபோல, நீங்கள் பட்டயங்களையும் தடிகளையும் எடுத்துப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தீர்களே.

Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

நான் தினந்தோறும் தேவாலயத்தில் உங்களுடனேகூட இருக்கையில் நீங்கள் என்னைப் பிடிக்கக் கைநீட்டவில்லை; இதுவோ உங்களுடைய வேளையும் அந்தகாரத்தின் அதிகாரமுமாயிருக்கிறது என்றார்.

When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

அவர்கள் அவரைப் பிடித்தபின்பு, பிரதான ஆசாரியனுடைய வீட்டில் கொண்டுபோய்விட்டார்கள். பேதுருவும் தூரத்திலே பின்சென்றான்.

Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

அவர்கள் முற்றத்தின் நடுவிலே நெருப்பை மூட்டி, அதைச் சுற்றி உட்கார்ந்தபோது, பேதுருவும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே உட்கார்ந்தான்.

And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

அப்பொழுது ஒரு வேலைக்காரி அவன் நெருப்பண்டையிலே உட்கார்ந்திருக்கக்கண்டு, அவனை உற்றுப்பார்த்து: இவனும் அவனோடிருந்தான் என்றாள்.

But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

அதற்கு அவன்: ஸ்திரீயே, அவனை அறியேன் என்று மறுதலித்தான்.

And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

சற்றுநேரத்துக்குப்பின்பு வேறொருவன் அவனைக் கண்டு: நீயும் அவர்களில் ஒருவன் என்றான். அதற்குப் பேதுரு: மனுஷனே, நான் அல்ல என்றான்.

And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

ஏறக்குறைய ஒருமணி நேரத்துக்குப்பின்பு வேறொருவன் அவனைப் பார்த்து: மெய்யாகவே இவனும் அவனோடிருந்தான், இவன் கலிலேயன்தான் என்று சாதித்தான்.

And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

அதற்குப் பேதுரு: மனுஷனே, நீ சொல்லுகிறதை அறியேன் என்றான். அவன் இப்படிச் சொன்னவுடனே சேவல் கூவிற்று.

And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் திரும்பி, பேதுருவை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தார். சேவல் கூவுகிறதற்கு முன்னே நீ என்னை மூன்றுதரம் மறுதலிப்பாய் என்று கர்த்தர் தன்னிடத்தில் சொன்ன வசனத்தை உடனே பேதுரு நினைவுகூர்ந்து,

And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

வெளியே போய், மனங்கசந்து அழுதான்.

And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

இயேசுவைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்ட மனுஷர் அவரைப் பரியாசம்பண்ணி, அடித்து,

And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.

அவருடைய கண்களைக் கட்டி, அவருடைய முகத்தில் அறைந்து: உன்னை அடித்தவன் யார், அதை ஞானதிருஷ்டியினால் சொல் என்று அவரைக் கேட்டதுமன்றி,

And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

மற்றும் அநேக தூஷணவார்த்தைகளையும் அவருக்கு விரோதமாகச் சொன்னார்கள்.

And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

விடியற்காலமானபோது ஜனத்தின் மூப்பரும் பிரதான ஆசாரியரும் வேதபாரகரும் கூடிவந்து, தங்கள் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தில் அவரைக் கொண்டுவந்து நிறுத்தி:

And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,

நீ கிறிஸ்துவா? அதை எங்களுக்குச் சொல் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவர்: நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னாலும் நம்பமாட்டீர்கள்.

Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

நான் உங்களிடத்தில் வினாவினாலும் எனக்கு மாறுத்தரம் சொல்லமாட்டீர்கள், என்னை விடுதலைபண்ணவுமாட்டீர்கள்.

And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

இதுமுதல் மனுஷகுமாரன் சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவனுடைய வலதுபாரிசத்தில் வீற்றிருப்பார் என்றார்.

Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

அதற்கு அவர்களெல்லாரும்: அப்படியானால், நீ தேவனுடைய குமாரனா என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவர்: நீங்கள் சொல்லுகிறபடியே நான் அவர்தான் என்றார்.

Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்: இனி வேறு சாட்சி நமக்கு வேண்டுவதென்ன? நாமே இவனுடைய வாயினாலே கேட்டோமே என்றார்கள்.

And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
