பிரசங்கி அத்தியாயம் 1

தாவீதின் குமாரனும் எருசலேமின் ராஜாவுமாகிய பிரசங்கியின் வாக்கியங்கள்.

The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

மாயை, மாயை, எல்லாம் மாயை என்று பிரசங்கி சொல்லுகிறான்.

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே மனுஷன் படுகிற எல்லாப் பிரயாசத்தினாலும் அவனுக்குப் பலன் என்ன?

What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

ஒரு சந்ததி போகிறது, மறு சந்ததி வருகிறது; பூமியோ என்றைக்கும் நிலைத்திருக்கிறது.

One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

சூரியன் உதிக்கிறது, சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கிறது; தான் உதித்த இடத்திற்கே அது திரும்பவும் தீவிரிக்கிறது.

The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

காற்று தெற்கே போய், வடக்கேயுஞ்சுற்றி, சுழன்று சுழன்று அடித்து, தான் சுற்றின இடத்துக்கே திரும்பவும் வரும்.

The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

எல்லா நதிகளும் சமுத்திரத்திலே ஓடி விழுந்தும் சமுத்திரம் நிரம்பாது; தாங்கள் உற்பத்தியான இடத்திற்கே நதிகள் மறுபடியும் திரும்பும்.

All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

எல்லாம் வருத்தத்தினால் நிறைந்திருக்கிறது; அது மனுஷரால் சொல்லிமுடியாது; காண்கிறதினால் கண் திருப்தியாகிறதில்லை, கேட்கிறதினால் செவி நிரப்பப்படுகிறதுமில்லை.

All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

முன் இருந்ததே இனிமேலும் இருக்கும்; முன் செய்யப்பட்டதே பின்னும் செய்யப்படும்; சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே நூதனமானது ஒன்றுமில்லை.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

இதைப் பார், இது நூதனம் என்று சொல்லப்படத்தக்க காரியம் ஒன்றுண்டோ? அது நமக்கு முன்னுள்ள பூர்வகாலங்களிலும் இருந்ததே.

Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

முன் இருந்தவைகளைப்பற்றி ஞாபகம் இல்லை; அப்படியே பின்வரும் காரியங்களைப்பற்றியும் இனி மேலிருப்பவர்களுக்கு ஞாபகம் இராது.

There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

பிரசங்கியாகிய நான் எருசலேமில் இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு ராஜாவாயிருந்தேன்.

I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

வானத்தின்கீழ் நடப்பதையெல்லாம் ஞானமாய் விசாரித்து ஆராய்ச்சி செய்கிறதற்கு என் மனதைப் பிரயோகம்பண்ணினேன்; மனுபுத்திரர் இந்தக் கடுந்தொல்லையில் அடிபடும்படிக்கு தேவன் அதை அவர்களுக்கு நியமித்திருக்கிறார்.

And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.

சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே செய்யப்படுகிற காரியங்களையெல்லாம் கவனித்துப் பார்த்தேன்; இதோ, எல்லாம் மாயையும், மனதுக்குச் சஞ்சலமுமாயிருக்கிறது.

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

கோணலானதை நேராக்கக்கூடாது; குறைவானதை எண்ணிமுடியாது.

That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.

இதோ, நான் பெரியவனாயிருந்து, எனக்குமுன் எருசலேமிலிருந்த எல்லாரைப்பார்க்கிலும் ஞானமடைந்து தேறினேன்; என் மனம் மிகுந்த ஞானத்தையும் அறிவையும் கண்டறிந்தது என்று நான் என் உள்ளத்திலே சொல்லிக்கொண்டேன்.

I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

ஞானத்தை அறிகிறதற்கும், பைத்தியத்தையும் மதியீனத்தையும் அறிகிறதற்கும், நான் என் மனதைப் பிரயோகம்பண்ணினேன்; இதுவும் மனதுக்குச் சஞ்சலமாயிருக்கிறதென்று கண்டேன்.

And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

அதிக ஞானத்திலே அதிக சலிப்புண்டு; அறிவுபெருத்தவன் நோவுபெருத்தவன்.

For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

பிரசங்கி அத்தியாயம் 2

நான் என் உள்ளத்திலே சொல்லிக்கொண்டது என்னவென்றால்: வா, இப்பொழுது உன்னைச் சந்தோஷத்தினாலே சோதித்துப்பார்ப்பேன், இன்பத்தை அநுபவி என்றேன்; இதோ, இதுவும் மாயையாயிருந்தது.

I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.

நகைப்பைக்குறித்து, அது பைத்தியம் என்றும், சந்தோஷத்தைக்குறித்து, அது என்ன செய்யும்? என்றும் சொன்னேன்.

I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?

வானத்தின்கீழ் மனுபுத்திரர் உயிரோடிருக்கும் நாளளவும் பெற்று அநுபவிக்கத்தக்கது இன்னதென்று அறியும்பொருட்டும், என் இருதயத்தை ஞானத்தால் தேற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே, நான் என் தேகத்தை மதுபானத்தால் சீராட்டிக்கொண்டிருக்கவும், மதியீனத்தைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கவும் என் உள்ளத்தில் வகைதேடினேன்.

I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.

நான் பெரிய வேலைகளைச் செய்தேன்; எனக்காக வீடுகளைக் கட்டினேன், திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களை நாட்டினேன்.

I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:

எனக்காகத் தோட்டங்களையும் சிங்காரவனங்களையும் உண்டாக்கி, அவைகளில் சகலவகைக் கனிவிருட்சங்களையும் நாட்டினேன்.

I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits:

மரங்கள் பயிராகும் தோப்புக்கு நீர்ப்பாய்ச்சுகிறதற்குக் குளங்களை உண்டுபண்ணினேன்.

I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees:

வேலைக்காரரையும் வேலைக்காரிகளையும் சம்பாதித்தேன்; வீட்டிலும் வேலைக்காரர் பிறந்தார்கள்; எனக்குமுன் எருசலேமிலிருந்த எல்லாரைப்பார்க்கிலும் ஆடுமாடு முதலான திரண்ட ஆஸ்திகள் எனக்கு இருந்தது.

I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:

வெள்ளியையும் பொன்னையும், ராஜசம்பத்தையும் மாகாணங்களிலுள்ள பொருள்களையும் சேகரித்தேன்; சங்கீதக்காரரையும் சங்கீதக்காரிகளையும், மனுபுத்திரருக்கு இன்பமான பலவித வாத்தியங்களையும் சம்பாதித்தேன்.

I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.

எனக்குமுன் எருசலேமிலிருந்த எல்லாரைப்பார்க்கிலும் நான் பெரியவனும் திரவிய சம்பன்னனுமானேன்; என் ஞானமும் என்னோடேகூட இருந்தது.

So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.

என் கண்கள் இச்சித்தவைகளில் ஒன்றையும் நான் அவைகளுக்குத் தடைபண்ணவில்லை; என் இருதயத்துக்கு ஒரு சந்தோஷத்தையும் நான் வேண்டாமென்று விலக்கவில்லை; நான் செய்த முயற்சிகளிலெல்லாம் என் மனம் மகிழ்ச்சிகொண்டிருந்தது; இதுவே என் பிரயாசங்கள் எல்லாவற்றினாலும் எனக்கு வந்த பலன்.

And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.

என் கைகள் செய்த சகல வேலைகளையும், நான் பட்ட எல்லாப் பிரயாசத்தையும் கண்ணோக்கிப் பார்த்தேன்; இதோ, எல்லாம் மாயையும், மனதுக்குச் சஞ்சலமுமாயிருந்தது; சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே பலன் ஒன்றுமில்லை.

Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.

பின்பு நான், ஞானமானது என்ன என்றும், பைத்தியமும் மதியீனமும் என்ன என்றும் பார்த்து அறியும்படி திரும்பினேன்; ராஜாவுக்குப் பின்வரும் மனுஷன் என்ன செய்யக்கூடும்? செய்ததையே செய்வான்.

And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.

இருளைப்பார்க்கிலும் வெளிச்சம் எவ்வளவு உத்தமமோ, அவ்வளவாய் மதியீனத்தைப்பார்க்கிலும் ஞானம் உத்தமமென்று கண்டேன்.

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.

ஞானியின் கண்கள் அவன் முகத்திலே இருக்கிறது; மூடனோ இருளிலே நடக்கிறான்; ஆகிலும் அவர்களெல்லாருக்கும் ஒரே விதமாய்ச் சம்பவிக்கிறது என்று கண்டேன்.

The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.

மூடனுக்குச் சம்பவிக்கிறதுபோல எனக்கும் சம்பவிக்கிறதே; அப்படியிருக்க நான் அதிக ஞானமடைந்ததினால் காரியமென்ன என்று சிந்தித்தேன்; இதுவும் மாயை என்று என் உள்ளத்தில் எண்ணினேன்.

Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.

மூடன் என்றாலும் ஞானியென்றாலும் என்றைக்கும் நினைவில் இருப்பதில்லை; இப்பொழுது இருக்கிறதெல்லாம் வருங்காலத்தில் மறக்கப்பட்டுப்போகும்; மூடன் எப்படி சாகிறானோ அப்படியே ஞானியும் சாகிறான்.

For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

ஆகையால் இந்த ஜீவனை வெறுத்தேன்; சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே செய்யப்படும் கிரியையெல்லாம் எனக்கு விசனமாயிருந்தது; எல்லாம் மாயையும், மனதுக்குச் சஞ்சலமுமாயிருக்கிறது.

Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே நான் பட்ட பிரயாசத்தையெல்லாம் வெறுத்தேன்; எனக்குப் பின்வரப்போகிறவனுக்கு அதை நான் வைத்துப்போகவேண்டியதாகுமே.

Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.

அவன் புத்திமானாயிருப்பானோ, மூடனாயிருப்பானோ, அதை யார் அறிவார்? ஆகிலும் சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே நான் பிரயாசப்பட்டு ஞானமாய்ச் சம்பாதித்த சகல வஸ்துக்களின்பேரிலும் அவன் அதிகாரியாவான்; இதுவும் மாயையே.

And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

ஆகையால் சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே நான் பட்ட எல்லாப் பிரயாசத்தின்மேலுமுள்ள ஆசையை விட்டுவிட வகைபார்த்தேன்.

Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.

ஒருவன் புத்தி, யுக்தி, நிதானத்தோடு பிரயாசப்படுகிறான்; ஆகிலும் அப்படிப் பிரயாசப்படாதிருந்த வேறொருவனுக்கு அவன் அதைச் சொந்தமாக விட்டுவிடவேண்டியதாகும்; இதுவும் மாயையும் பெரிய தீங்குமாய் இருக்கிறது.

For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.

மனுஷன் சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே படுகிற எல்லாப் பிரயாசத்தினாலும் அவனுடைய இருதயத்தின் எண்ணங்களினாலும் அவனுக்குப் பலன் என்ன?

For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?

அவன் நாட்களெல்லாம் அலுப்புள்ளது, அவன் வேலைகள் வருத்தமுள்ளது; இராத்திரியிலும் அவன் மனதுக்கு இளைப்பாறுதலில்லை; இதுவும் மாயையே.

For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

மனுஷன் புசித்துக் குடித்து, தன் பிரயாசத்தின் பலனை அநுபவிப்பதைப்பார்க்கிலும், அவனுக்கு ஒரு நன்மையும் இல்லை; இதுவும் தேவனுடைய கரத்திலிருந்து வருகிறது என்று நான் கண்டேன்.

There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.

என்னைப்பார்க்கிலும் சம்பிரமமாய்ச் சாப்பிடத்தக்கவன் யார்? என்னைப்பார்க்கிலும் துரிதமாய்ச் சம்பாதிக்கத்தக்கவன் யார்?

For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?

தேவன் தமது பார்வைக்கு நல்லவனாயிருக்கிறவனுக்கு ஞானத்தையும் அறிவையும் இன்பத்தையும் அளிக்கிறார்; பாவஞ்செய்கிறவனுக்கோ தமது பார்வைக்கு நல்லவனாயிருக்கிறவன் வசமாய் வைத்துவிட்டுப் போகும்பொருட்டுச் சேர்த்துக் குவித்துவைக்கும் தொல்லையை அவர் நியமித்திருக்கிறார்; இதுவும் மாயையும், மனதுக்குச் சஞ்சலமுமாயிருக்கிறது.

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

பிரசங்கி அத்தியாயம் 3

ஒவ்வொன்றிற்கும் ஒவ்வொரு காலமுண்டு; வானத்தின் கீழிருக்கிற ஒவ்வொரு காரியத்துக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு சமயமுண்டு.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

பிறக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, இறக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; நட ஒரு காலமுண்டு, நட்டதைப் பிடுங்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு;

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

கொல்ல ஒரு காலமுண்டு, குணமாக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; இடிக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, கட்ட ஒரு காலமுண்டு;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

அழ ஒரு காலமுண்டு, நகைக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; புலம்ப ஒரு காலமுண்டு, நடனம்பண்ண ஒரு காலமுண்டு;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

கற்களை எறிந்துவிட ஒரு காலமுண்டு, கற்களைச் சேர்க்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; தழுவ ஒரு காலமுண்டு, தழுவாமலிருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

தேட ஒரு காலமுண்டு, இழக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; காப்பாற்ற ஒரு காலமுண்டு, எறிந்துவிட ஒரு காலமுண்டு;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

கிழிக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, தைக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; மவுனமாயிருக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, பேச ஒரு காலமுண்டு;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

சிநேகிக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு, பகைக்க ஒரு காலமுண்டு; யுத்தம்பண்ண ஒரு காலமுண்டு, சமாதானம்பண்ண ஒரு காலமுண்டு.

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

வருத்தப்பட்டுப் பிரயாசப்படுகிறவனுக்கு அதினால் பலன் என்ன?

What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

மனுபுத்திரர் பாடுபடும்படி தேவன் அவர்களுக்கு நியமித்த தொல்லையைக் கண்டேன்.

I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

அவர் சகலத்தையும் அதினதின் காலத்திலே நேர்த்தியாகச் செய்திருக்கிறார்; உலகத்தையும் அவர்கள் உள்ளத்திலே வைத்திருக்கிறார்; ஆதலால் தேவன் ஆதிமுதல் அந்தம்மட்டும் செய்துவரும் கிரியையை மனுஷன் கண்டுபிடியான்.

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

மகிழ்ச்சியாயிருப்பதும் உயிரோடிருக்கையில் நன்மைசெய்வதுமேயல்லாமல், வேறொரு நன்மையும் மனுஷனுக்கு இல்லையென்று அறிந்தேன்.

I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

அன்றியும் மனுஷர் யாவரும் புசித்துக் குடித்து தங்கள் சகலப் பிரயாசத்தின் பலனையும் அநுபவிப்பது தேவனுடைய அநுக்கிரகம்.

And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

தேவன் செய்வது எதுவோ அது என்றைக்கும் நிலைக்கும் என்று அறிவேன்; அதினோடே ஒன்றும் கூட்டவுங்கூடாது, அதிலிருந்து ஒன்றும் குறைக்கவுங்கூடாது; மனுஷர் தமது சமுகத்தில் பயந்திருக்கும்படி தேவன் இப்படிச் செய்துவருகிறார்.

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

முன் நடந்ததே இப்பொழுதும் நடக்கிறது; இனி நடக்கப்போகிறதும் முன்னமே நடந்தது; நடந்ததையோ தேவன் விசாரிப்பார்.

That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

பின்னும் சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே நான் நியாயஸ்தலத்தைக் கண்டேன், அங்கே அநியாயம் இருந்தது; நீதிஸ்தலத்தையும் கண்டேன்,. அங்கே அநீதி இருந்தது.

And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

சகல எண்ணங்களையும் சகல செய்கைகளையும் நியாயந்தீர்க்குங்காலம் இனி இருக்கிறபடியால் சன்மார்க்கனையும் துன்மார்க்கனையும் தேவன் நியாயந்தீர்ப்பார் என்று என் உள்ளத்தில் எண்ணினேன்.

I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

மனுபுத்திரர் தாங்கள் மிருகங்களைப்போல் இருக்கிறார்களென்பதை அவர்கள் காணும்படிக்கு தேவன் அவர்களைச் சோதிக்கிறாரென்று நான் மனுஷருடைய நிலைமையைக்குறித்து என் உள்ளத்தில் எண்ணினேன்.

I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

மனுபுத்திரருக்குச் சம்பவிக்கிறது மிருகங்களுக்கும் சம்பவிக்கும்; அவர்களுக்கும் இவைகளுக்கும் ஏக சம்பவமுண்டு; இவைகள் சாகிறதுபோலவே அவர்களும் சாகிறார்கள்; ஜீவன்களுக்கெல்லாம் சுவாசம் ஒன்றே; மிருகத்தைப்பார்க்கிலும் மனுஷன் மேன்மையுள்ளவன் அல்ல; எல்லாம் மாயையே.

For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

எல்லாம் ஒரே இடத்துக்குப் போகிறது; எல்லாம் மண்ணிலே உண்டாகிறது, எல்லாம் மண்ணுக்குத் திரும்புகிறது.

All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

உயர ஏறும் மனுஷனுடைய ஆவியையும், தாழ பூமியிலிறங்கும் மிருகங்களுடைய ஆவியையும் அறிகிறவன் யார்?

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

இப்படியிருக்கிறபடியால், மனுஷன் தன் செய்கைகளில் மகிழ்ச்சியாயிருக்கும் நன்மையையேயல்லாமல், வேறே நன்மை இல்லையென்று கண்டேன்; இதுவே அவன் பங்கு; தனக்குப் பின்வரும் காரியங்களைக் காணும்படிக்கு அவனைத் திரும்பிவரப்பண்ணுகிறவன் யார்?

Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

யோவான் அத்தியாயம் 12

பஸ்கா பண்டிகை வர ஆறுநாளைக்கு முன்னே இயேசு தாம் மரணத்திலிருந்து எழுப்பின லாசரு இருந்த பெத்தானியாவுக்கு வந்தார்.

Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

அங்கே அவருக்கு இராவிருந்துபண்ணினார்கள்; மார்த்தாள் பணிவிடை செய்தாள்; லாசருவும் அவருடனேகூடப் பந்தியிருந்தவர்களில் ஒருவனாயிருந்தான்.

There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

அப்பொழுது மரியாள் விலையேறப்பெற்ற களங்கமில்லாத நளதம் என்னும் தைலத்தில் ஒரு இராத்தல் கொண்டுவந்து, அதை இயேசுவின் பாதங்களில் பூசி, தன் தலைமயிரால் அவருடைய பாதங்களைத் துடைத்தாள்; அந்த வீடு முழுவதும் தைலத்தின் பரிமளத்தினால் நிறைந்தது.

Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

அப்பொழுது அவருடைய சீஷரில் ஒருவனும் அவரைக் காட்டிகொடுக்கப்போகிறவனுமாகிய சீமோனுடைய குமாரனான யூதாஸ்காரியோத்து:

Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,

இந்தத் தைலத்தை முந்நூறு பணத்துக்கு விற்று, தரித்திரருக்குக் கொடாமல் போனதென்ன என்றான்.

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

அவன் தரித்திரரைக்குறித்துக் கவலைப்பட்டு இப்படிச் சொல்லாமல், அவன் திருடனானபடியினாலும், பணப்பையை வைத்துக்கொண்டு அதிலே போடப்பட்டதைச் சுமக்கிறவனானபடியினாலும் இப்படிச் சொன்னான்.

This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

அப்பொழுது இயேசு: இவளை விட்டுவிடு, என்னை அடக்கம்பண்ணும் நாளுக்காக இதை வைத்திருந்தாள்.

Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.

தரித்திரர் எப்பொழுதும் உங்களிடத்தில் இருக்கிறார்கள்; நான் எப்பொழுதும் உங்களிடத்தில் இரேன் என்றார்.

For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

அப்பொழுது யூதரில் திரளான ஜனங்கள் அவர் அங்கேயிருக்கிறதை அறிந்து, இயேசுவினிமித்தமாகமாத்திரம் அல்ல, அவர் மரித்தோரிலிருந்தெழுப்பின லாசருவைக் காணும்படியாகவும் வந்தார்கள்.

Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

லாசருவினிமித்தமாக யூதர்களில் அநேகர் போய், இயேசுவினிடத்தில் விசுவாசம்வைத்தபடியால்,

But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;

பிரதான ஆசாரியர்கள் லாசருவையும் கொலைசெய்ய ஆலோசனைபண்ணினார்கள்.

Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

மறுநாளிலே இயேசு எருசலேமுக்கு வருகிறாரென்று பண்டிகைக்கு வந்த திரளான ஜனங்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டு,

On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

குருத்தோலைகளைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு, அவருக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோகும்படி புறப்பட்டு: ஓசன்னா, கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்தினாலே வருகிற இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா ஸ்தோத்திரிக்கப்பட்டவர் என்று ஆர்ப்பரித்தார்கள்.

Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

அல்லாமலும்: சீயோன் குமாரத்தியே, பயப்படாதே, உன் ராஜா கழுதைக்குட்டியின்மேல் ஏறிவருகிறார் என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறபிரகாரமாக,

And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

இயேசு ஒரு கழுதைக்குட்டியைக் கண்டு அதின்மேல் ஏறிப்போனார்.

Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

இவைகளை அவருடைய சீஷர்கள் துவக்கத்திலே அறியவில்லை. இயேசு மகிமையடைந்த பின்பு, இப்படி அவரைக்குறித்து எழுதியிருக்கிறதையும், தாங்கள் இப்படி அவருக்குச் செய்ததையும் நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்கள்.

These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

அன்றியும் அவருடனேகூட இருந்த ஜனங்கள் அவர் லாசருவைக் கல்லறையிலிருந்து வெளியே வரவழைத்து, அவனை உயிரோடே எழுப்பினாரென்று சாட்சி கொடுத்தார்கள்.

The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

அப்படிப்பட்ட அற்புதத்தை அவர் செய்தார் என்று ஜனங்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டதினால் அவர்கள் அவருக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோனார்கள்.

For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

அப்பொழுது பரிசேயர் ஒருவரையொருவர் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் செய்கிறதெல்லாம் வீணென்று அறிகிறதில்லையா? இதோ, உலகமே அவனுக்குப் பின்சென்று போயிற்றே என்றார்கள்.

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

பண்டிகையில் ஆராதனை செய்யவந்தவர்களில் சில கிரேக்கர் இருந்தார்கள்.

And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

அவர்கள் கலிலேயா நாட்டுப் பெத்சாயிதா ஊரானாகிய பிலிப்புவினிடத்தில் வந்து: ஐயா, இயேசுவைக் காண விரும்புகிறோம் என்று அவனைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள்.

The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

பிலிப்பு வந்து, அதை அந்திரேயாவுக்கு அறிவித்தான்; பின்பு அந்திரேயாவும் பிலிப்புவும் அதை இயேசுவுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.

Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

அப்பொழுது இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: மனுஷகுமாரன் மகிமைப்படும்படியான வேளை வந்தது.

And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

மெய்யாகவே மெய்யாகவே நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன், கோதுமை மணியானது நிலத்தில் விழுந்து சாகாவிட்டால் தனித்திருக்கும், செத்ததேயாகில் மிகுந்த பலனைக்கொடுக்கும்.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

தன் ஜீவனைச் சிநேகிக்கிறவன் அதை இழந்துபோவான்; இந்த உலகத்தில் தன் ஜீவனை வெறுக்கிறவனோ அவன் அதை நித்திய ஜீவகாலமாய்க் காத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

ஒருவன் எனக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்கிறவனானால் என்னைப் பின்பற்றக்கடவன், நான் எங்கே இருக்கிறேனோ அங்கே என் ஊழியக்காரனும் இருப்பான்; ஒருவன் எனக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்தால் அவனைப் பிதாவானவர் கனம்பண்ணுவார்.

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

இப்பொழுது என் ஆத்துமா கலங்குகிறது, நான் என்ன சொல்லுவேன். பிதாவே, இந்த வேளையினின்று என்னை இரட்சியும் என்று சொல்வேனோ; ஆகிலும், இதற்காகவே இந்த வேளைக்குள் வந்தேன்.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

பிதாவே, உமது நாமத்தை மகிமைப்படுத்தும் என்றார். அப்பொழுது: மகிமைப்படுத்தினேன், இன்னமும் மகிமைப்படுத்துவேன் என்கிற சத்தம் வானத்திலிருந்து உண்டாயிற்று.

Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

அங்கே நின்று கொண்டிருந்து, அதைக் கேட்ட ஜனங்கள்: இடிமுழக்கமுண்டாயிற்று என்றார்கள். வேறுசிலர்: தேவதூதன் அவருடனே பேசினான் என்றார்கள்.

The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: இந்தச் சத்தம் என்னிமித்தம் உண்டாகாமல் உங்கள் நிமித்தமே உண்டாயிற்று.

Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

இப்பொழுதே இந்த உலகத்துக்கு நியாயத்தீர்ப்பு உண்டாகிறது; இப்பொழுதே இந்த உலகத்தின் அதிபதி புறம்பாகத் தள்ளப்படுவான்.

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

நான் பூமியிலிருந்து உயர்த்தப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது, எல்லாரையும் என்னிடத்தில் இழுத்துக்கொள்ளுவேன் என்றார்.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

தாம் இன்னவிதமான மரணமாய் மரிக்கப்போகிறாரென்பதைக் குறிக்கும்படி இப்படிச் சொன்னார்.

This he said, signifying what death he should die.

ஜனங்கள் அவரை நோக்கி: கிறிஸ்து என்றென்றைக்கும் இருக்கிறார் என்று வேதத்தில் சொல்லியதை நாங்கள் கேட்டிருக்கிறோம், அப்படியிருக்க மனுஷகுமாரன் உயர்த்தப்படவேண்டியதென்று எப்படிச் சொல்லுகிறீர்; இந்த மனுஷகுமாரன் யார் என்றார்கள்.

The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

அதற்கு இயேசு: இன்னும் கொஞ்சக்காலம் ஒளி உங்களிடத்தில் இருக்கும்; இருளில் நீங்கள் அகப்படாதபடிக்கு ஒளி உங்களோடிருக்கையில் நடவுங்கள்; இருளில் நடக்கிறவன் தான் போகிற இடம் இன்னதென்று அறியான்.

Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

ஒளி உங்களோடிருக்கையில் நீங்கள் ஒளியின் பிள்ளைகளாகும்படிக்கு, ஒளியினிடத்தில் விசுவாசமாயிருங்கள் என்றார். இவைகளை இயேசு சொல்லி, அவர்களைவிட்டு மறைந்தார்.

While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

அவர் இத்தனை அற்புதங்களை அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாகச் செய்திருந்தும், அவர்கள் அவரை விசுவாசிக்கவில்லை.

But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

கர்த்தாவே, எங்கள் மூலமாய்க் கேள்விப்பட்டதை விசுவாசித்தவன் யார்? கர்த்தருடைய புயம் யாருக்கு வெளிப்பட்டது என்று ஏசாயா தீர்க்கதரிசி சொன்ன வசனம் நிறைவேறும்படி இப்படி நடந்தது.

That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

ஆகையால் அவர்கள் விசுவாசிக்கமாட்டாமல்போனார்கள். ஏனெனில் ஏசாயா பின்னும்:

Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

அவர்கள் கண்களினால் காணாமலும், இருதயத்தினால் உணராமலும், குணப்படாமலும் இருக்கும்படிக்கும், நான் அவர்களை ஆரோக்கியமாக்காமல் இருக்கும்படிக்கும், அவர்களுடைய கண்களை அவர் குருடாக்கி, அவர்கள் இருதயத்தைக் கடினமாக்கினார் என்றான்.

He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

ஏசாயா அவருடைய மகிமையைக் கண்டு, அவரைக்குறித்துப் பேசுகிறபோது இவைகளைச் சொன்னான்.

These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

ஆகிலும் அதிகாரிகளிலும் அநேகர் அவரிடத்தில் விசுவாசம்வைத்தார்கள். அப்படியிருந்தும் ஜெப ஆலயத்துக்குப் புறம்பாக்கப்படாதபடி, பரிசேயர்நிமித்தம் அதை அறிக்கைபண்ணாதிருந்தார்கள்.

Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

அவர்கள் தேவனால் வருகிற மகிமையிலும் மனுஷரால் வருகிற மகிமையை அதிகமாய் விரும்பினார்கள்.

For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

அப்பொழுது இயேசு சத்தமிட்டு: என்னிடத்தில் விசுவாசமாயிருக்கிறவன் என்னிடத்தில் அல்ல, என்னை அனுப்பினவரிடத்தில் விசுவாசமாயிருக்கிறான்.

Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

என்னைக் காண்கிறவன் என்னை அனுப்பினவரைக் காண்கிறான்.

And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

என்னிடத்தில் விசுவாசமாயிருக்கிறவனெவனும் இருளில் இராதபடிக்கு, நான் உலகத்தில் ஒளியாக வந்தேன்.

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

ஒருவன் என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டும் விசுவாசியாமற்போனால், அவனை நான் நியாயந்தீர்ப்பதில்லை; நான் உலகத்தை நியாயந்தீர்க்கவராமல், உலகத்தை இரட்சிக்கவந்தேன்.

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

என்னைத் தள்ளி என் வார்த்தைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதவனை நியாயந்தீர்க்கிறதொன்றிருக்கிறது; நான் சொன்ன வசனமே அவனைக் கடைசிநாளில் நியாயந்தீர்க்கும்.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

நான் சுயமாய்ப் பேசவில்லை, நான் பேசவேண்டியது இன்னதென்றும் உபதேசிக்கவேண்டியது இன்னதென்றும் என்னை அனுப்பின பிதாவே எனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

அவருடைய கட்டளை நித்திய ஜீவனாயிருக்கிறதென்று அறிவேன்; ஆகையால் நான் பேசுகிறவைகளைப் பிதா எனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே பேசுகிறேன் என்றார்.

And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
