சண்டையோடுகூடிய வீடுநிறைந்த கொழுமையான பதார்த்தங்களைப் பார்க்கிலும், அமரிக்கையோடே சாப்பிடும் வெறும் துணிக்கையே நலம்.
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

புத்தியுள்ள வேலைக்காரன் இலச்சையுண்டாக்குகிற புத்திரனை ஆண்டு, சகோதரருக்குள்ள சுதந்தரத்தில் பங்கடைவான்.
A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

வெள்ளியைக் குகையும், பொன்னைப் புடமும் சோதிக்கும்; இருதயங்களைச் சோதிக்கிறவரோ கர்த்தர்.
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
4
துஷ்டன் அக்கிரம உதடுகள் சொல்வதை உற்றுக்கேட்கிறான்; பொய்யன் கேடுள்ள நாவுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கிறான்.
A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

ஏழையைப் பரியாசம்பண்ணுகிறவன் அவனை உண்டாக்கினவரை நிந்திக்கிறான்; ஆபத்தைக் குறித்துக் களிக்கிறவன் தண்டனைக்குத் தப்பான்.
Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகள் முதியோருக்குக் கிரீடம்; பிள்ளைகளின் மேன்மை அவர்கள் பிதாக்களே.
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7
மேன்மையானவைகளைப் பேசும் உதடு மூடனுக்குத் தகாது; பொய் பேசும் உதடு பிரபுவுக்கு எவ்வளவேனும் தகாது.
Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8
பரிதானம் வாங்குகிறவர்களின் பார்வைக்கு அது இரத்தினம் போலிருக்கும்; அது நோக்கும் திசையெல்லாம் காரியம் வாய்க்கும்.
A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

குற்றத்தை மூடுகிறவன் சிநேகத்தை நாடுகிறான்; கேட்டதைச் சொல்லுகிறவன் பிராணசிநேகிதரையும் பிரித்துவிடுகிறான்.
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

மூடனை நூறடி அடிப்பதைப்பார்க்கிலும், புத்திமானை வாயினால் கண்டிப்பதே அதிகமாய் உறைக்கும்.
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
11
துஷ்டன் கலகத்தையே தேடுகிறான்; குரூரதூதன் அவனுக்கு விரோதமாக அனுப்பப்படுவான்.
An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12
தன் மதிகேட்டில் திரியும் மதியீனனுக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், குட்டிகளைப் பறிகொடுத்த கரடிக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவது வாசி.
Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13
நன்மைக்குத் தீமைசெய்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் வீட்டைவிட்டுத் தீமை நீங்காது.
Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14
சண்டையின் ஆரம்பம் மதகைத் திறந்துவிடுகிறதுபோலிருக்கும்; ஆதலால் விவாதம் எழும்புமுன் அதை விட்டுவிடு.
The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

துன்மார்க்கனை நீதிமானாக்குகிறவனும், நீதிமானைக் குற்றவாளியாக்குகிறவனுமாகிய இவ்விருவரும் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவர்கள்.
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
16
ஞானத்தைக் கொள்ளும்படி மூடன் கையிலே ரொக்கம் என்னத்திற்கு? அதின்மேல் அவனுக்கு மனமில்லையே.
Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17
சிநேகிதன் எல்லாக் காலத்திலும் சிநேகிப்பான்; இடுக்கணில் உதவவே சகோதரன் பிறந்திருக்கிறான்.
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18
புத்தியீனன் தன் சிநேகிதனுக்கு முன்பாகக் கையடித்துக்கொடுத்துப் பிணைப்படுகிறான்.
A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
19
வாதுப்பிரியன் பாதகப்பிரியன்; தன் வாசலை உயர்த்திக் கட்டுகிறவன் அழிவை நாடுகிறான்.
He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20
மாறுபாடான இருதயமுள்ளவன் நன்மையைக் கண்டடைவதில்லை; புரட்டு நாவுள்ளவன் தீமையில் விழுவான்.
He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
21
மூடபுத்திரனைப் பெறுகிறவன் தனக்குச் சஞ்சலமுண்டாக அவனைப் பெறுகிறான்; மதியீனனுடைய தகப்பனுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியில்லை.
He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22
மனமகிழ்ச்சி நல்ல ஒளஷதம்; முறிந்த ஆவியோ எலும்புகளை உலரப்பண்ணும்.
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23
துன்மார்க்கன், நீதியின் வழியைப்புரட்ட. மடியிலுள்ள பரிதானத்தை வாங்குகிறான்.
A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24
ஞானம் புத்திமானுக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கும்; மூடனுடைய கண்களோ பூமியின் கடையாந்தரங்களில் செல்லும்.
Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25
மூடபுத்திரன் தன் பிதாவுக்குச் சலிப்பும், தன்னைப் பெற்றவர்களுக்குக் கசப்புமானவன்.
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
26
நீதிமானை தண்டம் பிடிக்கிறதும், நியாயஞ்செய்கிறவனைப் பிரபுக்கள் அடிக்கிறதும் தகுதியல்ல.
Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
27
அறிவாளி தன் வார்த்தைகளை அடக்குகிறான்; விவேகி குளிர்ந்த மனமுள்ளவன்.
He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28
பேசாதிருந்தால் மூடனும் ஞானவான் என்று எண்ணப்படுவான்; தன் உதடுகளை மூடுகிறவன் புத்திமான் என்று எண்ணப்படுவான்.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

நீதிமொழிகள் அத்தியாயம் 18

1
பிரிந்து போகிறவன் தன் இச்சையின்படி செய்யப்பார்க்கிறான், எல்லா ஞானத்திலும் தலையிட்டுக் கொள்ளுகிறான்.
Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2
மூடன் ஞானத்தில் பிரியங்கொள்ளாமல், தன் மனதிலுள்ளவைகளை வெளிப்படுத்தப் பிரியப்படுகிறான்.
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3
துன்மார்க்கன் வர அவமானம் வரும்; அவமானத்தோடே நிந்தையும் வரும்.
When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4
மனுஷனுடைய வாய்மொழிகள் ஆழமான ஜலம்போலிருக்கும்; ஞானத்தின் ஊற்று பாய்கிற ஆற்றைப்போலிருக்கும்.
The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

வழக்கிலே நீதிமானைத் தோற்கடிக்கிறதற்கு, துன்மார்க்கனுக்கு முகதாட்சிணியம்பண்ணுவது நல்லதல்ல.
It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6
மூடனுடைய உதடுகள் விவாதத்தில் நுழையும், அவன் வாய் அடிகளை வரவழைக்கும்.
A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7
மூடனுடைய வாய் அவனுக்குக் கேடு, அவன் உதடுகள் அவன் ஆத்துமாவுக்குக் கண்ணி.
A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8
கோள்காரனுடைய வார்த்தைகள் விளையாட்டுப்போலிருக்கும், ஆனாலும் அவைகள் உள்ளத்திற்குள் தைக்கும்.
The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9
தன் வேலையில் அசதியாயிருப்பவன் அழிம்பனுக்குச் சகோதரன்.
He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10
கர்த்தரின் நாமம் பலத்த துருகம்; நீதிமான் அதற்குள் ஓடிச் சுகமாயிருப்பான்.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11
ஐசுவரியவானுடைய பொருள் அவனுக்கு அரணான பட்டணம்; அது அவன் எண்ணத்தில் உயர்ந்த மதில்போலிருக்கும்.
The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12
அழிவு வருமுன் மனுஷனுடைய இருதயம் இறுமாப்பாயிருக்கும்; மேன்மைக்கு முன்னானது தாழ்மை.
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
13
காரியத்தைக் கேட்குமுன் உத்தரம் சொல்லுகிறவனுக்கு, அது புத்தியீனமும் வெட்கமுமாயிருக்கும்.
He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
14
மனுஷனுடைய ஆவி அவன் பலவீனத்தைத் தாங்கும்; முறிந்த ஆவி யாரால் தாங்கக்கூடும்?
The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15
புத்திமானுடைய மனம் அறிவைச் சம்பாதிக்கும்; ஞானியின் செவி அறிவை நாடும்.
The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16
ஒருவன் கொடுக்கும் வெகுமதி அவனுக்கு வழியுண்டாக்கி, பெரியோர்களுக்கு முன்பாக அவனைக் கொண்டுபோய்விடும்.
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17
தன் வழக்கிலே முதல் பேசுகிறவன் நீதிமான்போல் காணப்படுவான்; அவன் அயலானோ வந்து அவனை பரிசோதிக்கிறான்.
He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18
சீட்டுப்போடுதல் விரோதங்களை ஒழித்து, பலவான்கள் நடுவே சிக்கறுக்கும்.
The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19
அரணான பட்டணத்தை வசப்படுத்துவதைப்பார்க்கிலும் கோபங்கொண்ட சகோதரனை வசப்படுத்துவது அரிது; அவர்களுடைய விரோதங்கள் கோட்டைத் தாழ்ப்பாள்கள் போலிருக்கும்.
A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20
அவனவன் வாயின் பலனால் அவனவன் வயிறு நிரம்பும்; அவனவன் உதடுகளின் விளைவினால் அவனவன் திருப்தியாவான்.
A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21
மரணமும் ஜீவனும் நாவின் அதிகாரத்திலிருக்கும்; அதில் பிரியப்படுகிறவர்கள் அதின் கனியைப் புசிப்பார்கள்.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22
மனைவியைக் கண்டடைகிறவன் நன்மையானதைக் கண்டடைகிறான்; கர்த்தரால் தயையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23
தரித்திரன் கெஞ்சிக்கேட்கிறான்; ஐசுவரியவான் கடினமாய் உத்தரவுகொடுக்கிறான்.
The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24
சிநேகிதருள்ளவன் சிநேகம் பாராட்டவேண்டும்; சகோதரனிலும் அதிக சொந்தமாய்ச் சிநேகிப்பவனுமுண்டு.
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

நீதிமொழிகள் அத்தியாயம் 19

1
மாறுபாடான உதடுகளுள்ள மூடனைப்பார்க்கிலும், உத்தமனாய் நடக்கிற தரித்திரனே வாசி.
Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2
ஆத்துமா அறிவில்லாமலிருப்பது நல்லதல்ல; கால் துரிதமானவன் தப்பி நடக்கிறான்.
Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3
மனுஷனுடைய மதியீனம் அவன் வழியைத் தாறுமாறாக்கும்; என்றாலும் அவன் மனம் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தாங்கலடையும்.
The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
4
செல்வம் அநேக சிநேகிதரைச் சேர்க்கும்; தரித்திரனோ தன் சிநேகிதனாலும் நெகிழப்படுவான்.
Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
5
பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவனும் தப்புவதில்லை.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6
பிரபுவின் தயையை அநேகர் வருந்திக் கேட்பார்கள்; கொடைகொடுக்கிறவனுக்கு எவனும் சிநேகிதன்.
Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
7
தரித்திரனை அவனுடைய சகோதரர் எல்லாரும் பகைக்கிறார்களே, எத்தனை அதிகமாய் அவன் சிநேகிதர் அவனுக்குத் தூரமாவார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளை அவன் நாடுகிறான், அவைகளோ வெறும் வார்த்தைகளே.
All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
8
ஞானத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைச் சிநேகிக்கிறான்; புத்தியைக் காக்கிறவன் நன்மையடைவான்.
He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9
பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவன் நாசமடைவான்.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10
மூடனுக்குச் செல்வம் தகாது; பிரபுக்களை ஆண்டுகொள்வது அடிமைக்கு எவ்வளவும் தகாது.
Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11
மனுஷனுடைய விவேகம் அவன் கோபத்தை அடக்கும்; குற்றத்தை மன்னிப்பது அவனுக்கு மகிமை.
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12
ராஜாவின் கோபம் சிங்கத்தின் கெர்ச்சிப்புக்குச் சமானம்; அவனுடைய தயை புல்லின்மேல் பெய்யும் பனிபோலிருக்கும்.
The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13
மூடனாகிய மகன் தன் தகப்பனுக்கு மிகுந்த துக்கம்; மனைவியின் சண்டைகள் ஓயாத ஒழுக்கு.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14
வீடும் ஆஸ்தியும் பிதாக்கள் வைக்கும் சுதந்தரம்; புத்தியுள்ள மனைவியோ கர்த்தர் அருளும் ஈவு.
House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15
சோம்பல் தூங்கிவிழப்பண்ணும்; அசதியானவன் பட்டினியாயிருப்பான்.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16
கட்டளையை காத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறான்; தன் வழிகளை அவமதிக்கிறவன் சாவான்.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17
ஏழைக்கு இரங்குகிறவன் கர்த்தருக்குக் கடன்கொடுக்கிறான்; அவன் கொடுத்ததை அவர் திரும்பக் கொடுப்பார்.
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
18
நம்பிக்கையிருக்குமட்டும் உன் மகனைச் சிட்சைசெய்; ஆனாலும் அவனைக் கொல்ல உன் ஆத்துமாவை எழும்பவொட்டாதே.
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
19
கடுங்கோபி ஆக்கினைக்குள்ளாவான்; நீ அவனைத் தப்புவித்தால் திரும்பவும் தப்புவிக்கவேண்டியதாய் வரும்.
A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20
உன் அந்தியகாலத்தில் நீ ஞானமுள்ளவனாயிருக்கும்படி, ஆலோசனையைக்கேட்டு, புத்திமதியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21
மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்தின் எண்ணங்கள் அநேகம்; ஆனாலும் கர்த்தருடைய யோசனையே நிலைநிற்கும்.
There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
22
நன்மைசெய்ய மனுஷன் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசையே தயை; பொய்யனைப் பார்க்கிலும் தரித்திரன் வாசி.
The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
23
கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஜீவனுக்கேதுவானது; அதை அடைந்தவன் திருப்தியடைந்து நிலைத்திருப்பான்; தீமை அவனை அணுகாது.
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24
சோம்பேறி தன் கையைக் கலத்திலே வைத்து, அதைத் திரும்பத் தன் வாயண்டைக்கு எடுக்காமலிருக்கிறான்.
A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25
பரியாசக்காரனை அடி, அப்பொழுது பேதை எச்சரிக்கப்படுவான்; புத்திமானைக் கடிந்துகொள், அவன் அறிவுள்ளவனாவான்.
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
26
தன் தகப்பனைக் கொள்ளையடித்து, தன் தாயைத் துரத்திவிடுகிறவன், இலச்சையையும் அவமானத்தையும் உண்டாக்குகிற மகன்.
He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27
என் மகனே, அறிவைத் தரும் வார்த்தைகளை விட்டு விலகச்செய்யும் போதகங்களை நீ கேளாதே.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28
பேலியாளின் சாட்சிக்காரன் நியாயத்தை நிந்திக்கிறான்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வாய் அக்கிரமத்தை விழுங்கும்.
An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29
பரியாசக்காரருக்கு தண்டனைகளும், மூடருடைய முதுகுக்கு அடிகளும் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறது.
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

யோவான் அத்தியாயம் 7

1
இவைகளுக்குப்பின்பு, யூதர்கள் இயேசுவைக் கொலைசெய்ய வகைதேடினபடியால், அவர் யூதேயாவிலே சஞ்சரிக்கமனதில்லாமல் கலிலேயாவிலே சஞ்சரித்து வந்தார்.
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2
யூதருடைய கூடாரப்பண்டிகை சமீபமாயிருந்தது.
Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3
அப்பொழுது அவருடைய சகோதரர் அவரை நோக்கி: நீர் செய்கிற கிரியைகளை உம்முடைய சீஷர்களும் பார்க்கும்படி, இவ்விடம்விட்டு யூதேயாவுக்குப்போம்.
His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

பிரபலமாயிருக்க விரும்புகிற எவனும் அந்தரங்கத்திலே ஒன்றையும் செய்யமாட்டான்; நீர் இப்படிப்பட்டவைகளைச் செய்தால் உலகத்துக்கு உம்மை வெளிப்படுத்தும் என்றார்கள்.
For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

அவருடைய சகோதரரும் அவரை விசுவாசியாதபடியால் இப்படிச் சொன்னார்கள்.
For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6
இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: என் வேளை இன்னும் வரவில்லை, உங்கள் வேளையோ எப்பொழுதும் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறது.
Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7
உலகம் உங்களைப் பகைக்கமாட்டாது; அதின் கிரியைகள் பொல்லாதவைகளாயிருக்கிறதென்று நான் சாட்சிகொடுக்கிறபடியினாலே அது என்னைப் பகைக்கிறது.
The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

நீங்கள் இந்தப் பண்டிகைக்குப் போங்கள்; என் வேளை இன்னும் வராதபடியால் நான் இந்தப் பண்டிகைக்கு இப்பொழுது போகிறதில்லை என்றார்.
Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

இவைகளை அவர்களுடனே சொல்லி, பின்னுங் கலிலேயாவிலே தங்கினார்.
When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10
அவருடைய சகோதரர் போனபின்பு, அவர் வெளியரங்கமாய்ப் போகாமல் அந்தரங்கமாய்ப் பண்டிகைக்குப் போனார்.
But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

பண்டிகையிலே யூதர்கள் அவரைத்தேடி: அவர் எங்கேயிருக்கிறார் என்றார்கள்.
Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12
ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே அவரைக்குறித்து முறுமுறுப்புண்டாயிற்று. சிலர்: அவர் நல்லவர் என்றார்கள். வேறுசிலர்: அப்படியல்ல, அவன் ஜனங்களை வஞ்சிக்கிறவன் என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
13
ஆனாலும் யூதருக்குப் பயந்திருந்ததினாலே, ஒருவனும் அவரைக்குறித்துத் தாராளமாய்ப் பேசவில்லை.
Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14
பாதிப்பண்டிகையானபோது, இயேசு தேவாலயத்துக்குப்போய், உபதேசம்பண்ணினார்.
Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
15
அப்பொழுது யூதர்கள்: இவர் கல்லாதவராயிருந்தும் வேத எழுத்துக்களை எப்படி அறிந்திருக்கிறார் என்று ஆச்சரியப்பட்டார்கள்.
And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

இயேசு அவர்களுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: என் உபதேசம் என்னுடையதாயிராமல், என்னை அனுப்பினவருடையதாயிருக்கிறது.
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17
அவருடைய சித்தத்தின்படி செய்யமனதுள்ளவனெவனோ அவன் இந்த உபதேசம் தேவனால் உண்டாயிருக்கிறதோ, நான் சுயமாய்ப் பேசுகிறேனோ என்று அறிந்துகொள்ளுவான்.
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

சுயமாய்ப் பேசுகிறவன் தன் சுயமகிமையைத் தேடுகிறான், தன்னை அனுப்பினவரின் மகிமையைத் தேடுகிறவனோ உண்மையுள்ளவனாயிருக்கிறான், அவனிடத்தில் அநீதியில்லை.
He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19
மோசே நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கவில்லையா? அப்படியிருந்தும் உங்களில் ஒருவனும் அந்த நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தின்படி நடக்கிறதில்லை; நீங்கள் ஏன் என்னைக் கொலைசெய்யத் தேடுகிறீர்கள் என்றார்.
Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

ஜனங்கள் அவருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நீ பிசாசுபிடித்தவன்; உன்னைக் கொலைசெய்யத் தேடுகிறவன் யார் என்றார்கள்.
The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: ஒரே கிரியையைச் செய்தேன், அதைக்குறித்து எல்லாரும் ஆச்சரியப்படுகிறீர்கள்.
Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
22
விருத்தசேதனம் மோசேயினால் உண்டாகாமல், பிதாக்களால் உண்டாயிற்று; பின்பு மோசே அதை உங்களுக்கு நியமித்தான்; நீங்கள் ஓய்வுநாளிலும் மனுஷனை விருத்தசேதனம்பண்ணுகிறீர்கள்.
Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.

மோசேயின் நியாயப்பிரமாணம் மீறப்படாதபடிக்கு ஓய்வுநாளில் மனுஷன் விருத்தசேதனம் பெறலாமென்றால், நான் ஓய்வுநாளில் ஒரு மனுஷனை முழுவதும் சுகமாக்கினதினாலே என்மேல் எரிச்சலாயிருக்கலாமா?
If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

தோற்றத்தின்படி தீர்ப்புச்செய்யாமல், நீதியின்படி தீர்ப்புச்செய்யுங்கள் என்றார்.
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
25
அப்பொழுது எருசலேம் நகரத்தாரில் சிலர்: இவனையல்லவா கொலைசெய்யத் தேடுகிறார்கள்?
Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
26
இதோ, இவன் தாராளமாய்ப் பேசுகிறானே, ஒருவரும் இவனுக்கு ஒன்றும் சொல்லுகிறதில்லையே, மெய்யாய் இவன் கிறிஸ்துதான் என்று அதிகாரிகள் நிச்சயமாக அறிந்திருக்கிறார்களோ?
But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

இவன் இன்ன இடத்திலிருந்து வந்தவனென்று நாம் அறிந்திருக்கிறோம், கிறிஸ்து வரும்போதோ, அவர் இன்ன இடத்திலிருந்து வருகிறவரென்று ஒருவனும் அறியமாட்டானே என்றார்கள்.
Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
28
அப்பொழுது இயேசு தேவாலயத்தில் உபதேசிக்கையில் சத்தமிட்டு: நீங்கள் என்னை அறிவீர்கள், நான் எங்கேயிருந்து வந்தேனென்றும் அறிவீர்கள்; நான் என்சுயமாய் வரவில்லை, என்னை அனுப்பினவர் சத்தியமுள்ளவர், அவரை நீங்கள் அறியாதிருக்கிறீர்கள்.
Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

நான் அவரால் வந்திருக்கிறபடியினாலும், அவர் என்னை அனுப்பியிருக்கிறபடியினாலும், நானே அவரை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன் என்றார்.
But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
30
அப்பொழுது அவரைப் பிடிக்க வகைதேடினார்கள்; ஆனாலும் அவருடைய வேளை இன்னும் வராதபடியினால் ஒருவனும் அவர்மேல் கைபோடவில்லை.
Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

ஜனங்களில் அநேகர் அவரை விசுவாசித்து: கிறிஸ்து வரும்போது, இவர் செய்கிற அற்புதங்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் அதிகம் செய்வாரோ என்றார்கள்.
And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

ஜனங்கள் அவரைக்குறித்து இப்படி முறுமுறுக்கிறதைப் பரிசேயர் கேட்டபொழுது, அவரைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு வரும்படிக்குப் பரிசேயரும் பிரதான ஆசாரியரும் சேவகரை அனுப்பினார்கள்.
The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33
அப்பொழுது இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: இன்னுங்கொஞ்சக்காலம் நான் உங்களுடனேகூட இருந்து, பின்பு என்னை அனுப்பினவரிடத்திற்குப் போகிறேன்.
Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34
நீங்கள் என்னைத் தேடுவீர்கள், ஆனாலும் என்னைக் காணமாட்டீர்கள்; நான் இருக்கும் இடத்திற்கு நீங்கள் வரவுங்கூடாது என்றார்.
Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
35
அப்பொழுது யூதர்கள்: இவரை நாம் காணாதபடிக்கு எங்கே போவார், கிரேக்கருக்குள்ளே சிதறியிருக்கிறவர்களிடத்திற்குப் போய், கிரேக்கருக்கு உபதேசம்பண்ணுவாரோ?
Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

நீங்கள் என்னைத் தேடுவீர்கள், ஆனாலும் என்னைக் காணமாட்டீர்கள் என்றும், நான் இருக்கும் இடத்துக்கு நீங்கள் வரக்கூடாதென்றும், இவர் சொன்ன வார்த்தையின் கருத்து என்னவென்று தங்களுக்குள்ளே சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.
What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?

பண்டிகையின் கடைசிநாளாகிய பிரதான நாளிலே இயேசு நின்று, சத்தமிட்டு: ஒருவன் தாகமாயிருந்தால் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து, பானம்பண்ணக்கடவன்.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

வேதவாக்கியம் சொல்லுகிறபடி என்னிடத்தில் விசுவாசமாயிருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் உள்ளத்திலிருந்து ஜீவத்தண்ணீருள்ள நதிகள் ஓடும் என்றார்.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39
தம்மை விசுவாசிக்கிறவர்கள் அடையப்போகிற ஆவியைக்குறித்து இப்படிச் சொன்னார். இயேசு இன்னும் மகிமைப்படாதிருந்தபடியினால் பரிசுத்த ஆவி இன்னும் அருளப்படவில்லை.
But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40
ஜனங்களில் அநேகர் இந்த வசனத்தைக் கேட்டபொழுது: மெய்யாகவே இவர் தீர்க்கதரிசியானவர் என்றார்கள்.
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41
வேறுசிலர்: இவர் கிறிஸ்து என்றார்கள். வேறுசிலர்: கிறிஸ்து கலிலேயாவிலிருந்தா வருவார்?
Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42
தாவீதின் சந்ததியிலும், தாவீது இருந்த பெத்லகேம் ஊரிலுமிருந்து கிறிஸ்து வருவார் என்று வேதவாக்கியம் சொல்லவில்லையா என்றார்கள்.
Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

இவ்விதமாக அவரைக்குறித்து ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே பிரிவினையுண்டாயிற்று.
So there was a division among the people because of him.
44
அவர்களில் சிலர் அவரைப் பிடிக்க மனதாயிருந்தார்கள்; ஆகிலும் ஒருவனும் அவர்மேல் கைபோடவில்லை.
And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45
பின்பு அந்தச் சேவகர் பிரதான ஆசாரியரிடத்திற்கும் பரிசேயரிடத்திற்கும் திரும்பிவந்தார்கள்; இவர்கள் அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அவனை ஏன் கொண்டுவரவில்லை என்று கேட்டார்கள்.
Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46
சேவகர் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: அந்த மனுஷன் பேசுகிறதுபோல ஒருவனும் ஒருக்காலும் பேசினதில்லை என்றார்கள்.
The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47
அப்பொழுது பரிசேயர்: நீங்களும் வஞ்சிக்கப்பட்டீர்களா?
Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48
அதிகாரிகளிலாவது பரிசேயரிலாவது யாதாமொருவர் அவனை விசுவாசித்ததுண்டா?
Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49
வேதத்தை அறியாதவர்களாகிய இந்த ஜனங்கள் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் என்றார்கள்.
But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
50
இராத்திரியிலே அவரிடத்திற்கு வந்தவனும் அவர்களிலொருவனுமாகிய நிக்கொதேமு என்பவன் அவர்களை நோக்கி:
Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
51
ஒரு மனுஷன் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டு, அவன் செய்கைகளை அறிகிறதற்கு முன்னே, அவனை ஆக்கினைக்குட்படுத்தலாமென்று நம்முடைய நியாயப்பிரமாணம் சொல்லுகிறதா என்றான்.
Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
52
அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நீரும் கலிலேயனோ? கலிலேயாவிலிருந்து ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசியும் எழும்புகிறதில்லை என்பதை ஆராய்ந்துபாரும் என்றார்கள்.
They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

பின்பு அவரவர் தங்கள் தங்கள் வீட்டுக்குப் போனார்கள்.
And every man went unto his own house.
